Is this dodgy?

I dunno If this is dodgy or not, but i'm sure they shouldn't be advertising S3 yet!

With the LX you need a certain amount of finnese (if thats how you spell it) and an awareness of what is actually happening.

They're very sensitive to weight-transfer, making it vital to trail some braking into the turn-in. Feeding the trottle in a little to sit some weight over the back end before you plant it helps too

I know these principles apply to most cars but with the LX they're just so much more apparent. If anybody asks me what's the best car to teach some skills i'd say LX every time!

Turning on/up the G effects for camera movement can help a bit with the 'ol seat of the pants thing, though it ain't gonna beat a motion platform! (or maybe a real Se7en!)

It's funny, down at snetterton you can distinctly hear tyres squealing. Be nice to have it. It adds more drama to the T1 pileup

Quote from Gener_AL (UK) :you really shouldnt need software.

LFS does not support using a joystick as a shifter. for that you need a tiny bit of software.

I hope i don't upset the author but I've attached the program you'll need. you can also get one that supports force feedback, but you'll have to search for that. it's called FFshifter or something similar.

good luck making your shifter dude. you'll find getting a decent H-gate the hardest bit, but it's well worth it in the end!

I agree with forbin, FWD can give you some seriously bad habits, but they're great to learn to race with.

As for learning some skills, the LX4 is the daddy. It's pretty raw, but that's the beauty of it. It does everything you ask of it (right or wrong) and doesn't have any peculiar habits like the RAC. the XRT's not bad either, just a little heavier and you'll find more XRTs online.

Whatever it is, make sure it's got road tyres on it. You won't get the best out of a set of slicks until you've mastered road tyres.

Has any one else noticed that once a server gets above 30 players, It becomes a serious chore to start a race.

I know it's a bit late as a suggestion for X, but it might be better to give somebodys vote a few more minutes before it expires.

It doesn't matter how many "road safety" videos are made, it won't stop stupid people doing stupid things. I spend 8-10 hours a day on the road and morons are far more dangerous that speeders. Although a speeding moron is the worst kind.

Stupidity can kill at any speed.

The STCC system is great and It's added a whole new dimention to the game for me. I don't think it should be 'implemented' into LFS simply because it already is!

We just need a few more servers to crop-up with a similar system, kinda like different governing bodies! they could use their own points/licencing system or share with others.

It's not something that the devs should need to worry about, so far Scawen's done a blinding job of making this sort of thing possible. It's now up to the community to make something of the tools we've been given.

Any chance we could have a display of start reaction time in the post-race results.

cheers for the patch guys, pretty damn good (and bug free for me!)

Wow, cool blag by you're uni!

It's gonna be a pricey project to complete as an original car, and there must be 100s of parts that you'll never be able to find off the shelf.

my suggestion is to contact TWR or somebody and see if they can supply some drawings, as you'll then be able to re-manufacture the required parts. (Much more satisfying!)

also Motorsport magazine has loads of ads for jaguar specialists and some mention the 220

Good luck!

Quote from SamH :Racers on Platinum aren't able to use any of the driver aids. If they ignore the red warning message, they'll only be able to race a total of one race every 24hrs.. it's an automatic server-administered ban for ignoring the rules.

I'm not really sure about that, since I use a clutch and have removed all aids etc, so I'm cool with that. But it's the Throttle-cut on upshift that might cause me issues. with TCU enabled it works kinda like an electronic flatshift, I hate it and hate driving with it, it's not that I over-rev my engines on upshift a lot, but i do modulate my throttle on upshifts depending upon the prevailing conditions.

Does this ruling mean I won't be able to leave TCU switched off?

An extra gold/platinum server would be a great idea, but i suppose it depends on STCC resources. It'd give gold/platinum racers a chance to fight with fuller grids of (mostly ) decent drivers.

I'm not really worried about the difference between FXOs and the rest, as long as it's taken into account with points etc properly i'm cool with it.

If there was a gold+grade server it would mean a lot more people racing the XRT+RB4, since the FXO doesn't score as many points as you're not gonna loose out from that standpoint and they are a lot of fun too.

would be great, It'd be great if we could roam around the whole grounds of Blackwood etc. could be at least a couple of miles of stuff to be built.
for now fern bay is pretty cool and you can get some pretty long ish sections if you use the track wisely. sounds fun

When turning into a corner you're mostly using the grip of the front wheels, so you want to somehow increase the weight of the front-end to increase the load and therefore the grip of the front tyres.

We do this with 'Trail braking'. by doing most of our heavy braking in a straight line (very important for minimum lock-ups), releasing most (but not all) of the brake pressure, then starting the turn in with a little braking just to hold the weight over the front while we get the car loaded up into the corner.

It's important to practice of course, and an understanding of weight-transfer helps too. You'll be amazed at the difference a little extra traction at the front can make!

Enjoy!

Why is the UFR so low? it's the second lowest ATM.

It's my undisputed choice as the car I enjoy driving the most, my second choice is the FZR they are by far the most rewarding cars I've found.

H&T is used to lessen the engine braking 'shock' when you bring the clutch back up while braking and downshifting at the same time. so it has to be the second one. you can also use a little (H&T)throttle if you lock a (driven) wheel as this means you don't have to come off the brakes again.

with a bit of hunting about you'll be able to get hold of tweak/mekanic and a sutable version of LFS. it might take you a little bit of fiddling but it's well worth it for those extra horsies!

Both! normally my right foot is taking care of braking and throttle duties. while my left is busy with the clutch. sometimes I use a bit of left foot braking in fast bends when i want to slow the car a little without upsetting the balance too much.

I just bought one on saturday and I've spent most of the weekend flying around my house .

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TCg6yltxUaQ

It's cheaper than a cheap car and it's probably better built too! But it's pretty tough to fly indoors - once you get some space it's awesome! The pack comes supplied with a Tx and battery charger (a good one) and even a DVD (with a somewhat hypnotic narrator)

And for the techy peeps out there, the reciever (with built-in gyros and speed controllers) has 6 channels, so with the right Tx you could easily plug some more servos in to have some fun with! and there's already an apache body-kit on the market. indoor gunship anyone?
