Nice =) 1.6 is double what a standard street car will pull =)
IMO slicks would be part, how the suspension is setup would change it a bit as well, still getting used to doing things in a "G" filled enviorment is not easy and it will take some getting used to. By the end of the season or possibly even next race you hopefully would see numbers closer to that. Doing things even like a gearchange (though there probably isn't many corners that would allow a gearchange through the corner) you would have to apply the normal movement force to change the gear PLUS the force you would need to counteract the "G" you already know all that =) But I am sure others reading might or might not have thought about it like that =)
I think the tires are the biggest part though. Tires do everything for the car, without a good set of tires the car means nothing. Tires do everything a suspesion does.. all in one little area. Everything from shock absorbsion to spring rates, camber is partially controlled by the tire if you think of it in terms of one sidewall flexing more than the other. I think you will feel a whole new car yet again when you put fresh slicks on for the first time =)
I have to say this though, please anyone tell me if I am wrong with any of this. Everything I have learned or thought I learned has been by listening to people so I could be miles off the mark =) I am sure Tristan you and your family know all about these things, writing these things are more for me and making these ideas concrete in my head.
Like this... until a few days ago I thought that toe in at the front gave you better intial bite into a corner, don't ask me why I thought that. If you sit down and really think about it does the oposite, but it will give you strait line stability... Toe out in the front will give you greater initial turn-in but will make the car wander down the straits, the farther you step away from 0 in either direction the more wear and heat your building in the tire.
Anyways I wouldn't have gotten this straitened out in my head if I didn't post on another forum is what I was trying to say, hopefully this will do the same =)
When people say they should have run a different car than what they did are forgetting that these people have the money to develop a suspension that will take the chassis to the maximum of it's abilities and about the only thing thats "vectra" on the car is the badge...
Chances are that the Vectra has a stiffer chassis than an Astra. Making suspension movements much more precise, giving the team the ability to get every tenth they can out of the car, not to mention giving a car thats much easier and predictable to drive, then on standing starts a RWD will out accelerate a FWD in almost every circumstance off the line.
I definatly agree and would be chuffed to bits if I was running laps faster than people that have raced before =)
I noticed each lap or so you did bring the car in harder and out sooner. Towards the end you weren't putting the power down that much later... the guys in front were using a light throttle just before the second part of the chicane to get that little bit more for the strait, and to probably get the rear end to step out a bit so they wouldn't put it into the grass, their full throttle points didn't seem that far off yours. They did munch full curb on the backside but curbs are like ice if you have never driven on them before. It also seemed that they did more trail braking into the chicane, but I was on the far side of the chicane so I couldn't really see the brake points well.
All in all it was a good race, you got some seat time, held your composure and were putting in laps within a second or two of each other, which is all anyone could ask for =)
How many G's did you end up pulling nearer the end?
Tristan, Which chicane did you brake late on? I was sitting near the second chicane.
I really enjoyed the race =) I would have stopped by after tech but I needed to get home and I didn't know how long post tech would be.
From where I was at you were making some great laps. A bit cautious, but I would hope so =)
Compairing you to the leaders coming off the chicane you powered on later and didn't take much of the curb. That's in no way knocking your driving =) Amazing run =) 3 seconds from the leaders is awesome =)
I really enjoyed the day and I hope I wasn't too much of a pain!
What do you mean that American cars are slow? I would agree that alot of the plain jane ones are nothing to write home about but the sport versions of most of the cars compaire to the sporty ones here in the UK. The worlds fastest factory FWD comes from the states. The Viper won the 24hours Lemans GT1 class from 1996 to 2001 I think a saleen was in the mix, which is also made in the States then the Vette has won 5 times in the last 6 years of the race. In Gt1's you see the Ferrari's and Aston Martins.
Factory wise there is nothing really different between a ferrari or a vette in performance, with this years Viper the Viper is up there once again aswell.
I am not arguing persay, just giving you information that might hopefully kill the stigma that Americans make slow cars =)
If your talking about cars from the 80's then I would definatly agree with you, but the new cars coming out onto the market today in the states are engineered no differently than the ones in the European and Japaneese markets.
If your talking about standard daily driver cars that are built purely for economy and nothing around performance I wouldn't really know... there is nothing really worth compairing to or about.
Well we should have collected phone numbers, but ahwell =)
I was sun/wind burnt aswell. I have a nice cherry face now.
Tristan can tell you more about how he actually did, but he wasn't last which at least for me thats an achievement in itself for anyones first race.
The morning practice/quali session was wet and windy and I don't think it was fun for many people. By the start of the racing it was drying rapidly and by the time Tristan hit the track I didn't see a puddle on the track.
All in all it was a good day. I wanted to catch up with some of you guys but it happens when it's planned the way we planned it. =)
Tristan saw the car, in reality it's nothing special to really look at, looks like a Chrysler Neon with a bodykit, rear wing, and intercooler hanging off the front. The stuff that makes this a nice car is all under the hood and in the suspension and the brakes =)
practicly? Only things different really is the engine and bodywork. Chassis and suspension are identical. They are made in the same factory on the same line they better be =)
Grats =) So when we going to go racing and track-daying? =) On the strip I think it would be close but I think I might fade behind a bit with my turbo lag...
I don't know what Sam is thinking about but from what I gathered he wants to continue the SRA in some shape and form, and what BenjiMC is talking about is exactly what the SRA was in the process of building. Everything was there structurally, it just needed a voice to tell all of the leauges that this system is available for leagues to refer to with difficult race decisions, much like the FIA.
While the SRA was built mainly by Becky, Becky has nothing to do with the decisions that happen with drivers licenses and reviewing reports. While she has the authority and sometimes does, everything on the whole is operated by a small group of admins which Becky usually lets them go at it on their own until a discussion needs to happen about a driver.
It's not that far.... and I enjoy driving my car =)
It would probably only add another 30 min or so to the drive I would think, no big deal =) Thats if you want to ride in the worlds fastest factory FWD... for some people thats just a big turnoff =)
I can't wait now tristan =) Just the idea seeing you in your fancy rain light =)
Yeah I love the idea =) Lets hope there is a way for the SRA to be put into LFS in some shape or form, hopefully with Becky behind the till =) Maybe they could outsource it Banshee Studio's for a version of the SRA to be put into LFS =)
Hehe yeah, thats not even to say Becky is ready to do that yet, if at all =) But the foundation is there.
This would be a tough one. If indeed the RSA software did get put into the game, it would open up a whole can of worms and everyone would be trying to get their mod into the game, no matter what the quality, turning in the direction of how RFactor is being handled with it's sub-par mods that most people usually wait until the first patch comes out to even bother trying it...
Becky has created and is in the process of creating an MMO type feel, at least to me, that comes from her experience in MMO's like EQ, to LFS while addressing the issues of drivers behaving badly by creating a sim authority that people can turn to when a dispute arises over someone’s driving behavior among other things on the book =)
(Everyone keeps using STCC, which is partially correct, STCC events are sanctioned by the SRA(Sim Racing Authority). The STCC sponsored servers use the SRA software to keep track of licenses, it could be said that the STCC is the SRA, but technically it's not and the SRA rides above the STCC, creating a governing body over the Logitech Sim Touring Car Cup. Basically the SRA is the sim version of the FIA to the STCC and who knows possibly other leagues aswell =)
screenie looks pretty, but all the stuff they mention on the right is nothing new to any race simulation.
I hope SimBin can think of something, the ISI physics left much to be desired. Not saying it was total crap but there are little things that I feel are missing. I am not holding my breath on anything from SimBin.
I like the idea of steam, shame it takes forever to get it running and even then I have issues.
Haha yeah =) Thats how I see it too =)
BTW you know when the announcment is coming Hyperactive?
Haha that's Awesome =) I didn't realize they were approached by simbin =)
I didn't realize this either. Would have been awesome to see GTR with LFS physics =) Give it a couple more years and we will have something much better though =)
