Quote from March Hare :What major modifications does a car need to be a "drift car"?
Apart from having:
  • Been lowered
  • Ridiculous amounts of camber
  • RWD
  • Dorifto graphics plastered all over
All this you can already do in LFS so why do many people want a "drift car" added to LFS?

idk, they are just being silly... and havent really tried the game out...

oh, btw, the "speed" that is a factor in drifting is not about time, it's about raising the risk factor and making it more exciting. and the more hype you can generate with your crazy driving style, the better score you would generate

Quote from benjie.13 :I hate drifting, and think it was great that the XRT was banned from the DEMO.

how would that change anything for drifting in the full version? you are a bigot for hating something you don't know about

Quote from Ikaponthus :Browsing these forums, it seems to be really popular! I can't imagine why it would appeal to sim-racing enthusiasts. Certainly is pretty low on my motoring "to do" list, but I don't know too much about it.

As far as I understand, it's maybe the slowest way to corner and couldn't be too healthy for the car either (let alone burning the tyres)!

I see it on youtube too ... what's with these guys? Why would you want to drive a car slowly and dangerously and rip your tyres to shreds? Okay ... so I suppose it could be fun for a while. But apart from that, are there any practical reasons? Or is it just a glorified burnout?

Serious question, I don't know much about it, I'm not trying to wind anyone up.

look... the only reason drifters would look for realistic driving sims to drift is because it's REALISTIC. they want to practice without worrying about tires and part costs... if you are into racing, why not go play NFS?

yeah... okey... but what about the cost of tires... the cost of fuel... and parts?

Quote from Stang70Fastback :Atlantian - are you talking about the GT cars in LFS? Or about a game called GT? Or what? I'm thoroughly confuzzled...

oh, i ment GT as in Grand Turismo...

Quote from dawesdust_12 :Well, speaking as someone that's only started to drive a car, after many years of sim racing. Don't try. There are some ways that a wheel could have helped, but there's so many situations where you should forget all simracing experience.

i started driving at about...12...

and btw, the best of the best is a replicated cabin on hydrualics like the force dynamic

^oh, damn, that's f'd up... i think i would get the G25, because it would be a better investment...

lolz... you can add the bike when we start simulating mortality in LFS...

i need something that i can practice driving in...
preferably the force dynamic 401 kit, with the g25...

but i am considering what to get... the G25(tried and true) or the new porsche wheel(there are said to be very poor in quality, but it has a thicker wheel and better modeling of pedal depression)

btw, the wheels are not good unless it's the best of the best...

oh, yes, if the game becomes venerable enough in the pop market, the deal with bmw will get through to every other auto company!

i would say that i am basing my judgment on real driving experience... if i had driven as many cars as Jeremy Clarkson, but, no i haven't...

I am just waiting for someone to hand me the most realistic sim and i am going to base other games off of that.

and by the way, about maneuverability of the cars... is there a point when it's just too much? where there is an unrealistic amount of understeer... like how, in GT, the cars just feel so heavy in "Pu-ro-fe-shi-en-oh-ru"(the word "professional" in a japanese accent) mode due to the lack of grip and the inability to put the power down to the pavement exiting a turn...

^actually, you NEVER want to neutral steer... on track at least

how about having the guy have 3 arms? problem solved...

he doesn't step on the pedal when you press clutch? no prob, give him a third leg!

he hates enthusia because of the car selection...

i am guessing that he is believing the bullshit that polyphony digital's PR department is dishing out... every major gaming magazine has GT5 on their cover now...and praising it for the sophistocated physics.

i played it at his house and it was the same gt4 physics with new features in the main menu... with fancy graphics(each blade of grass is individually rendered). The GTR feels heavy dispite me turning on the ATTEST and every car feels like the GTR...

now, we just don't talk about sims when we talk on MSN for fear that he may block me...

say... can anyone make a video of a real Mitsu Starion and an XFG trying to do identical autocross formats? just for comparison's sake. since noone has done an "LFS vs. Real life" video

Quote from Gnomie :Hm.. maybe I used the term wrong.. anyway, I do the following when approaching hairpins/acute turns at high speed:
  • Approach a corner and apply full brakes while following a straight line
  • Ease off brakes a little as I approach apex, but still braking quite a lot. This causes more vertical loading on the front wheels, which gives better traction and hence I can turn more/faster. The rear wheels will be slipping slightly (but not spinning out), as the rear end of the car wants to keep going along the straight line.
  • Once the front of the car is pointing where I want, I countersteer (straighten up the car) while gently applying throttle.
In the XFG/XRT this works pretty well. I normally use 66-69% brake bias to get this effect.

I don't know, but it feels like I can go faster with this technique as I can approach a turn at higher speed and exit with the same speed, or maybe also faster.

oh, i just read that you brake heavily on your rear wheels and thought you mixed up trail braking and ebraking...

yes, you got it right... you brake your front wheels while you have your foot on the throttle.

but why do you brake fully? isn't flating your tires out bad for driving?

Quote from Ahriman4891 :That requires $$. I wouldn't count on anything "real" except very small companies like Radical or Ariel (which could use free advertisement) or some prototype vehichles from e.g. universities.

hey, that's a good idea, if Scawen and the gang can do a good job with the "free advertisements" of prototype cars and small project cars, then i am guessing that the big corporations will eventually agree to give their cars to LFS or perhaps PAY lfs... that would be a step forward to getting real cars!

Quote from The Radness :Look at pretty much every post he's posted since joining. They're all pretty misinformed

nahh, SHOW drifting is all about skill, it's all about showmanship, it's not about efficiantcy. If the move is too easy, you're lucky if you even get a point... there are rodeo drifts, where you sit on the door still and do doughnuts like that... i don't think you are going to see that in WRC lol.

but as i say, the ebrake drift is too easy, unoriginal, too safe, too predictable. thus, you will not get any special remarks for it, clutch kicks are overused but it's still more sophistocated then ebrake initiations.

and someone here said that ebrake drifts are better because it doesn't "shift your line"... if you are going very fast through a corner, wouldn't you WANT to be pushed towards the apex and hope you don't grind your tail on the rail?

Quote from Gnomie :

In the tight corners, I like to use trail braking, with quite a lot of braking force on my rear wheels. This makes it easier to point the car in the direction I want to go early, so I can come back to full throttle earlier. (I'm using this in the XRG/XRT)

wait, do you stop your front wheels or rear wheels in trail braking?

my friend who is a die-hard sony and polyphony fan says that LFS is "tail-happy like GTA" when i got a chance to make him demo it... he thinks that GT5 is still the ultimate simulator... he can't turn away now anyways, he spent a great deal of money on GT games and the PS3

Quote from pearcy_2k7 :The onlt thing i really want from the damage model is wheels on the single seaters actually coming off under alot of impact, bumpers etc.
And some oil spill would make it more intresting btw mentioned lots of times before.

actually... if there where stuff littering the track, you will need to have the ability to clean it up...

there are crashers now... imagine if they left a mess of oil leaks around every apex... THEN left... the track would be non-drivable... unless you drive poorly and never hit the apex

Quote from batteryy :and even more fun would be if rear bumper would fly trough ur winshield and smash your head to 2 parts and then your can would sart spinning and make a massive crash so many cars would be crashed...is it fun? oh hell yeah

actually, that would be more realistic... so yes, it would be more challenging and thus, more fun
