Yep, engine just went off and couldn't get moving again.
Hehee, just had a Rookie Solstice race, haven't driven that thing since I got into Skippy. Was pretty fun, like beautiful chaos with cars going all over the place. Managed to finish 4th with slow 1:05 laptimes.
Watching other drivers online can only work as a guide, there's only so much information that can be sent without completely choking up the server. Cars seem to be sliding a little bit more than they actually are. Basically just look where they go, not how they go.
Stutter you mentioned is related to own client and comp, I've experienced big pause like that once and it's not related to connection, none of the other drivers noticed any stuttering.
Btw, it's always best to finish the race than retire if you want to maintain SR, incidents are calculated per corner. On rookie series I think there's 3 resets available so you should be able to make it through even if you're few laps behind,
Yeah, it's quite nice but it will be damn tough to get there and different cars add some variation. Let's assume that Radical will be B class car and you've just signed up and started as a Rookie, it will take minimum of 6 months to get into Radical assuming you'll have 4.0 SR the day you get C licence. Now keeping in mind how hard it is to get +3.0 SR on C-class, I wouldn't worry too much about it.
Skippy is good for learning tracks since it relies on mechanical grip and Mazda could be good practise for racing with high downforce, just don't have much seat time in it as I'm focusing on Skippy season. But neither of them come even close to Radical's performance and taking that car to the limit is like watching a video on fast-forward.
It's more efficient for a developer team located in US to work on tracks and cars found within reasonable distance instead of traveling all over the world scanning locations. But it's not like we're just driving around in pickup trucks, we got some really good road cars and there's alot more on the way.
Question: Do you feel bad when someone goes off after you've put hard pressure on him?
I just had a race where I messed up early and fell down back of the field, from there on I started fighting my way back and few guys did excellent defence so I had to resort on hovering around their mirrors and pretend that I was going to dive in until they messed up and went off the track. Had an awesome fight with 3rd place guy for few laps in a row and was right at his bumper all the time but eventually he spun out.
I kinda feel sorry because their race was ruined, although I know that it's just a driving error when there's no contact.
Edit: However, Jertje is still being stubborn and doesn't want to spin when I'm chasing him.
Now as there starts to be plenty of series to run, I really wish they would improve the web UI a bit. It's been suggested before but somekind of window with next 5 events with their starting time and duration would be great.
Your system is right at the minimum, so I cannot say that it's going to look or run fantastic. Large tracks with multiple layouts such as Silverstone can cause small stuttering on even faster machines.
titanLS: I doubt your system can run it at playable framerates, maybe in offline practise sessions but races with multiple cars will cause problems. Both CPU and graphics card are not even close to meeting minimum requirements.
Yep, I recorded it twice and took it into Premiere where I crop and resize the one with steering and pedals. I've also scaled it up so they won't be completely blurred out when I compress the whole video for Youtube.
Rob76: You don't need to download all tracks and cars at once, you can just leave out some to download later.
Front runners will be running 1.03 but I didn't put in enough laps to get there, 1.04's were enough for podium. Consistency and solid performance wins the day.
I'm glad you're liking it, I was worried we had been overhyping the driving feel just because we're so excited about the whole thing
I'm pretty sure there's plenty of Vista+FF users without problems and I get a feeling that it could still be NOD32 related. Did you try removing it completely and checking that all registry entries were removed aswell, then installed some other antivirus?
I'm using Comodo firewall with Avast! antivirus on WinXP SP3 and got no issues so far. Both of them are free.
Fast guys run ~1:48 but you'll get to 1:50 range just by driving it smoothly. Throwing it around the corners can really kill your laptime.
Braking point for T1 is between 3-2 markers, I'd recommend that you practise braking at "3" and then move little bit forward if it feels good. I tend to turn car little bit towards the apex so I can brake into the corner and have car positioned on the inside banking. Outside edges of this turn are really slippery.
This week Rookie Solstice is running on Lime Rock Park which can be quite tricky due to all those bumps and camber changes. I really recommend getting used to the car and track before going online, Solstice isn't very easy car to drive because powersteering and all that weight makes it feel very numb. Lime Rock Park is quite fun but as you might already expect, it's very different from generally smooth LFS tracks and you -will- crash out in last corner many many times.
Take your time, don't worry too much about ratings. Just try to get comfortable with the car, SR and speed comes naturally.
th84: No need to wait for 4.0 SR, you'll get on Adv. Legends with +3.0 SR and I'd say those are much more fun than Late Models. LM is bit heavy and underpowered compared to Adv. Legends which offers awesome racing and alot more overtaking. I've been waiting for this new batch of drivers to get on those, most old guys are either on LM or SC.
I think I'm done for tonight, frustration kicking in. Yesterday was great but today has been just horrible, on that last race I even had to retire because I spun on grass and got stuck in a ditch. I think only positive thing was that I managed to run 48.2 just before I repositioned my left-rear on top of rear wing using Mr. Bonca's nosecone.
Something like that, two guys ahead went side-by-side into second apex, had a contact and spun sideways on the track, I was following close and ran into them. I tried to continue but car was way too damaged, had to reset and by then I was already lap down. So, I just decided to entertain myself for rest of the race by hotlapping and collecting incident points after pushing too far.
It happens, I'm not really worried about SR. I'm sure it's going to be high enough for C licence by the end of this season.
Yeah, It's Huttu's set with no modifications, I use it exactly like that for Cup layout aswell. Although I'm currently testing with moving brake bias more to back since his current set has 57% balance, this one is older with 62%. I don't really plan to go that far and 60% seems to be pretty good for hairpin, but it gets me into trouble elsewhere.
Huttu's sets have reputation of being very oversteery and slippery, but to me that feels really grippy and much easier to drive than few other sets I've tried.
Jerte sure beats the crap out of Skippy, but your setup is bit different than the one I'm using and I don't think I could toss it around like that without flying into a wall and that's not really good when you need to stay on track more than one lap. I tried to be little bit more aggressive in last race but it ended up badly, that bump inside T4 didn't like my sliding and threw me off the track.
I'll try your set tomorrow and see how it works. Here's the set I'm currently using, it's made for Cup layout but since it's mostly the same, I suppose it works just fine.
