Not entirely sure what you mean by "brake and turn -corner" but if you're referring to what basically dropped me to back of the field, I think that was when car didn't straighten up fast enough completely missing the braking point in T5 and went all the way otherside to T8. Figured it was faster to take "stop and go" for cutting the track than turn around and drive across the field back to T5.
My problem is really the fact that rear is sliding around constantly and it's making braking really difficult in some corners.
Yeah, competition is alot tougher in Adv. Solstices. I've had some time off from iRacing due to studying Photoshop and Maya, but decided to "relax" and joined in Adv. Solstice race because I'm just being destroyed in Skip Barbers. I thought it could be nice warmup race before giving Skippy another try. So, the event starts and I join the server.... warmup in my ass! I get gridded against Dale Jr and other aliens, completely lefting me in the dust. But it didn't really matter as I had my hands full trying to keep "Slowstice" on track. Felt like it had suddenly developed extra horsepower as it kept going sideways all over the place compared to LRP where you really need to provoke it into oversteer
Well, "Awesome" would mean it's almost perfect which none of the sims are, atleast in my opinion. Furthermore, what makes the sim good for you depends on personal needs and preferences. I don't see modding or customization being essential part of the sim if basic package is good enough while others might find it very limiting.
iRacing is not open to public yet but it's looking very promising so far. With 8 cars, 21 tracks and 50 different layouts it's getting ready for public launch. There's few bits and pieces that still needs to be figured out but we're getting there.
Here's my quick input on the good and bad
Good
-High quality tracks and cars
-Physics feel much alike LFS, although not as forgiving.
-Sounds. I've always put a huge value on sounds being part of immersion and this sim really delivers.
-Network code, seems pretty solid and I've had no problems racing with aussies, europeans or canadians.
-Easy as hell to set up and run. Ingame menus are very user friendly and don't have hundreds of sliders and buttons to confuse you.
-Community in general, but I think that's due to pricing which is a "barrier of entry".
-No drift servers
-No cruise servers
The Bad
-Missing features such as mechanical damage, fuel strategy and proper clutch model. Also Web UI is still bit clumsy and there's no way to have a online session with people on your friends-list.
-Body damage is similiar to LFS where things bend and deform but don't really break. Some cars need bit tweaking and Solstice is like soft butter.
-Racing system can feel quite restrictive when you're used to jump-in and drive on public servers.
-Pricing, monthly fee seems about right but additional content is little pricy, large tracks like Silverstone are 25$.
-No GT/Touring cars yet.
I think that should cover the major points. Keeping in mind that sim is not released yet I'd expect most of the flaws to be fixed before open release. For me it's worth my money and I don't think I'll be returning to other sims just like I ditched GTR2 when I bought LFS S2.
In overall the system is very strict and ill behavior is not tolerated at all. Act like an ass and you'll get your account banned in no time. System includes a complaint form that can be used (and is used) to report behavior that violates the racing code, be it foul language or intentional crashing. So far I haven't had to use it as I've been able to deal with all incidents via PMs.
Edit: Updated a little.

To be honest, I wouldn't try it.
You cannot make special setups for mouse and keyboard users and there's no options for digital steering adjustments. In LFS you can for an example set brakes so precisely for each track that it doesn't lockup, allowing much easier control for mouse and keyboard users. In iRacing you really have to be precise with your pedals because the only thing you can change is brake balance and even that is not available for all cars. Another problem would be bumps, especially those in middle of high-speed corners like LRP last corner; one wrong move and you've just won trip to the tirebarriers.
I watched some faster laps but there's just no way I can brake that late where car is constantly loose under braking. Even on Greger's replay it looks as if he's driving on a streak of good luck.
Sweet, just got my best finish in VIR East so far. Flawless drive and didn't crash or spin, finished 6th with "only" 30sec margin to next guy. Heck, even the three guys who restarted almost un-lapped me with 8sec faster laptimes
...I think I'll go back to Solstices.
Edit: If someone knows what the hell I'm doing wrong, here's my 3:05 lap from last night (there's couple obvious spots where I lose few tenths but there's no such thing as perfect lap) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gKW8WckTDLI
Watched the replay on Speed couple hours ago and have to say that it was pretty amazing race. It was a first ALMS race I've watched and I quite enjoyed it, plenty of cars and even more action. I can understand the reason why Uphill and West Bend were changed, it worked pretty well to keep speeds down and have some extra runoff area.
About the Acura, he was just told on team radio to drop the pace on last lap to save fuel. I don't think he exactly run out of fuel but he didn't want to waste it in overtaking slower cars as he caught up with Ferrari and Viper (I think) on backstraight.
In overall, it was pretty amazing. Seeing them going 3-4 wide on mainstraight and then squeese into T1 makes you really respect their driving skill. If I tried some of that in iRacing, it would end up in spectacular crash :P
How's the pedal mounting? It looks like they're in very steep angle compared to how your feet would line up.
...and why is there a clock under the table?
1. I was using 4th for a while but now switched driving them on 3rd. Hitting rev limiter isn't really that big issue because I can carry so much more speed through Uphill and following righthander, car just doesn't have enough power to keep going on 4th.
2. You better lift just to get car pointed in right direction.
Btw, on Adv. Solstice you can measure your cornering speed quite easily on Uphill. If car doesn't jump off the ground, you're not fast enough
When you can get faster card for same price, you have nothing to lose.
I wouldn't buy budget cards from store because their prices usually level off after 1 year and stay there until they're all gone. Don't be suprised to have old card being sold for 40€ and just next to it there's two generations newer for exactly the same price.
