Round 1

Sunday,10th September
17:00 UTC / 19:00 CET / 20:00 EET

The 2nd season with a new car is set to start on the coming sunday and the selected track is the longest in VERL history - the 8.8 kilometer long Aston Grand Prix configuration has something from everything as it features long straights, fast sweeping turns, quick bends and slow hairpins. Since the car has been changed compared to last year, setups most likelly have to be adapted or even created from scratch. Less power and a bit more aerodynamics effect should help to handle the car, however the 600 horsepower will make the racing at limit still very challenging.

Currently signups list is quite short and does not include any of previous champions,so let's hope people will stop playing the waiting game and sign up at first chance - this is a series where everyone can prove their skills driving a very challenging car.

Round info:
Track: AS Grand Prix (AS5)
Laps: 23
Previous winners: S1DUS*uNite (2022), S1DUS*GáboR (2021), Maunokasa (2020), Dzban (2019), v\A.Wiśniewski (2018; 2016), [SR] S.Litmanen (2015)

* PENALTIES :
[FM]ˆOhnifus - receives 20 seconds penalty added to his finish time for pit exit line violation on 2 occasions.
RGˆM@CI3K - receives 10 seconds penalty added to his finish time for pit exit line violation.

- - - - - - - - - -

For the 2nd time in RTFR XL history a car track combo was repeated - 51st RTFR XL combo was a repeat of 19th (XRR at AS5),this week it was a repeat of 41st RTFR XL. Of course it draws the wish to compare results - winner of previous race required more than 2 minutes longer to complete the same distance, however he required an extra pitstop back then and the competition was quite lower - all 5 finishers on lead lap this week completed the distance faster than winner of previous race. Another improvement is attendance and finishing percentage - total attendance improved by 7 and all 18 starters completed the 50% distance requirement to be scored in results.

What was missing again was intrigue for race win - just like in previous 4 RTFR races (both normal and XL),Gábor was the one running ahead without much competition and started also in RTFR XL a winning streak, which is his 2nd one in this series. With this he added the 8th in all 3 important chart columns - wins, pole positions and fastest laps of the race, while the top5 finish was his 16th. Despite his teammate winning more than a half of year's races, the leader of standings is R.Kardol - and he scored yet another big bunch of points by finishing 2nd,making another big step towards securing the win in standings. With more than 1 minute gap in finish came "best of the rest" - he had his best ever RTFR XL event this week as 3rd place finish is 1 position better than his previous only other top5 finish while 3rd place in qualifying is 5 positions better than previous best. Unite finished 4th to make 3 of his team between best 4 and to score his 22nd top5 finish, but Ayoub Maroc finished 5th to make 5 different nations in top5,scoring his 5th top5 finish.

* FUN FACT OF THE MONTH :
Despite being selected for the 5th time (2nd highest number),FO8 still struggles to gain attendance popularity - even with higher attendance than it's own average, the car still stays in 26th position in most attended cars chart, there are a total of 28 cars in this chart.

* CLOCK PITTER OF THE RACE :
Last time in same combo all drivers changed tyres,so it was expected most doing it again. 2 however finished the race without tyre change - Thehemuli was one of them and clocked the shortest pitstop time by just refuelling the car.

* FIELD RUSHER OF THE RACE :
Thehemuli topped also the highest climber chart by advancing 9 positions during the race to finish just outside top5.

The V8 Racing League week was opened early - on the tuesday the RTFR XL run the old VERL car,but on sunday the new one will also have it's turn, running a big part of the same track as on tuesday,VERL will start it's 9th season with it's first ever race at Aston's longest configuration. If you're interested in the challenge the 600 horsepower car offers, make sure not to miss the action - full information and signups in V8 Racing League forum section! Next week in normal RTFR there will be a relativelly simple road car on the menu, full information will be posted on the weekend, while the RTFR server will be used for other series in 2 weeks time - the colorful field of RandomCar will be run on a custom configuration in Kyoto. The honors of selecting next combo for RTFR XL went as low as for 3rd place finisher as top2 both have already reached the 3 selections per year limit,he however has not submitted his choice yet.

Quote from fastranker1 :What about the Scirocco? Will we get this in the next updates?

The latest info is that it will be included as S1 content after new tyres physics release. Haven't seen any info that this plan would be changed. Still I don't get the big interest about it as there are a lot of better cars in the mods list already.

Pitting rules:
Race requires a minimum time spent in pitstall of 10 seconds. That can be done either with single pitstop or sum of multiple pitstops. Driver who has spent less time will receive penalty time added to his finish time, which will be calculated by tripling the missing time to complete neccesary minimum time and adding additional 5 seconds. Drivers failing to pit at all will receive 1 minute penalty added to finish time (10s*3 + additional 30s).

Some historic stats:

Race statistics / RTFR .mpr folder / Event rating and other statistics (will be updated later this week)

GTR at the very origins of LFS (Blackwood GP track) is meanwhile pretty much a classic race, however this tuesday we added some spice to this classic - the run GTR was based on a car that has been wished to have GTR version, but never had - the LFS's own RB chassis. This is now possible thanks to user created content and the RB GTR seems to have a very similar pace compared to the XRR - the 242nd RTFR was run on same track with it and the same 28 laps distance was completed just 0.23 seconds earlier than this week's race, back then won by J.Katila - his pole position earning time was 0.01s slower though, while 2nd place's time in qualifying was identical, set by polesitter of this week's race. Even if 25 drivers tried their skills during qualifying, only 20 of them were standing on grid waiting for green light - such dropoff is starting to become a trend latelly in RTFR,but only one driver did not got classified in results and that due network problems of another driver.

2 weeks ago Gábor started already his 4th winning streak,so the intrigue was if he can keep it alive to make 3 in row for the first time. His teammate tried hard to make competition in qualifying, eventually giving up and leaving the server without returning for race - Gábor had just one opponent running in range of sight for the whole race, but still the hungarian led all 28 laps to score his 1st 3-wins-in-row streak in RTFR. With this he joined 5 other drivers, who were able to win 3 or more races in row in RTFR history. Gábor now reached a quarter century count of wins, while he also added 18th pole position,20th fastest lap of the race to his stats and reached half century in his top5 count. It was also the 31st race win for Hungary, tying Lithuania for 2nd most. Ironically a lithuanian was the closest rival for the winner - Mantas qualified 3rd,started from front row and finished in 2nd place, which is his 9th top5 finish. With 20 seconds gap to winner Arska took the best of the rest honors by finishing 3rd,scoring his 22nd top5 finish, closelly followed by B2R duo of Ayoub Maroc in 4th place, who scored his 11th top5 finish, and the only winless top5 finisher of the day - Twincam, who scored his 3rd top5 finish in RTFR. That made one of the rare cases of 5 different nations represented in the top5.

VOD at Youtube:

RTFR XL is next in list of future races - the 81st RTFR XL will be a rerun of 41st RTFR XL more than 3 years ago, using FO8 in the Aston North reversed configuration, full info will be posted tomorrow. The info about next RTFR in two weeks was not mentioned in broadcast this time, however it should not be a problem as many of regular LFS racers might have fair number of laps in it.

V8 Racing League 2023 - information

Last season V8 Racing League introduced the "turbo era" and brought a new car for the drivers - the FoRGE VERL 2022 was a step upwards regarding power and challenging handling. However with reduced aerodynamical downforce, the car was pretty much on similar pace with the good old Formula V8,which was used in first 7 seasons. This year the car has been developed further - it received an updated suspension geometry, slightly increased aerodynamical downforce and got some minor fixes to ensure quality, but also lost a bit of it's power, which was cut by reducing boost of the turbocharger. This is the organizing body's attempt to make the car more user friendly, while it is still challenging to master.

League race format is quite simple and hasn't been changed - every round features 20 minutes free track qualifying and race, where lapcount is set to minimum to exceed 200 kilometers. As always no "hardcore simulation" will be enforced to keep things simple - everyone can telepit in qualifying (also in race, but that of course erases the driver's race progress),also Safety/Pace car will not be used. However the race day has been changed - VERL will return it's action to sunday evening (european time) to increase it's availability for the racers from west side of Atlantic. Season starts on 10th september with rounds set 2 weeks apart from each other, except round 3 is 3 weeks after round 2.

Schedule of this season features 2 fast tracks at both ends of the series, while 3 middle rounds will be run on slower courses. Season kicks off in Aston, where VERL will be using the longest configuration Grand Prix for the 1st time in league's history. Round 2 will be also "a first ever" - the brand new round "FoRGE 200" will be run on a custom layout set up in Layout Square, the 3.2km street circuits inspired track has 2 long straights and handfull of slow challenging turns. A real street course will be used in round 3 - the South City 200 will be run in Chicane Route configuration, which has been used 3 times in VERL history, however this year it will be run in default direction for the first time. The 2 last rounds will be run on returning courses - 4th round will be run on what has been become VERL classic. The bumpy and dusty Container Sprint configuration is set up in Blackwood's container storage field and as always will challenge drivers' mental and physical endurance. Season finale will be held in pretty much the most classic high power car circuit of LFS - the Westhill International configuration has always been a great place for high speed cars showdown racing.

Series schedule:
10.09. Round 1 - Aston Classic Challenge (AS Grand Prix, 23 laps)
24.09. Round 2 - FoRGE 200 (LA FoRGE Viaduct 8*, 63 laps)
15.10. Round 3 - South City 200 (SO Chicane Route, 69 laps)
29.10. Round 4 - Containa Grand Prix of Blackwood (BL Container Sprint*, 80 laps)
12.11. Round 5 - Westhill 200 (WE International, 35 laps)
* Custom configuration layout attached

Timetable:
17:00 UTC / 19:00 CET / 20:00 EET
- 20 minutes of qualifying
17:30 UTC / 19:30 CET / 20:30 EET - race start
* due daylight saving time change in Europe, the UTC time of round 5 will be accordingly 18:00 (Qual) and 18:30 (Start)!
* times of posted CET and EET timezones are the current times at the date - summer time in rounds 1-4,winter time in round 5.
* IMPORTANT NOTE: if you are not familiar with either CET or EET timezones, always refer to UTC to convert the correct event time to your timezone! Calendar of lfs.net website's leagues section always shows right time for your timezone!

Special notes on qualifying:
- If there is no full 40 car grid, drivers championship's top 10 drivers will be allowed to start from end of the grid if joined late and missed qualification. For 1st round last year's top 10 driver's can use this option.
- To qualify for the race drivers have to set a laptime during qualifying session within 112% of best laptime of the qualifying session. This does not affect championship's top 10 drivers as they may start the race without qualifying or with laptime outside 112% of best laptime.

Championships:
VERL Drivers Champion - awarded to a driver with the most points scored through all 5 rounds, including attendance bonus points
VERL Teams Champion - awarded to a team with the most points scored through all 5 rounds (team will score all points from it's 2 highest finished drivers and all round bonus points)
VERL Nations Cup Winner - awarded to a nation with the most points scored through all 5 rounds (nation will score all points from it's 2 highest finished drivers and all round bonus points)
VERL Rookie of the Year - awarded to a driver, who hasn't started a single VERL race before this season, with the most points scored through all 5 rounds, including attendance bonus points. Rookie status will be marked in championship standings sheet in series spreadsheets (link in "Miscellaneous info" section of this post)

In all championships - in case of a tie, higher rated will be driver/team/nation with highest finishing position,if equal - it's amount,if equal - second highest position etc. If all finishing positions happen to be equal, higher rated will be selected using same system from qualifying results. If they also happen to be equal then as a tie-breaker will be used last round finishing position. In case a tied driver had a disqualification in one or more rounds,it counts as a primary rating lowering factor, when deciding tiebreak.

Points System:
Finishing points:
1st - 20 points
2nd - 17 points
3rd - 14 points

Rules:
We will not make a mile long rule book that noone will read completely anyway,so we will rely on common sence of competitors to behave and follow the basic Rules of Clean Racing. There will not be an admin in server who will specifically observe drivers' behaviour during the race,so any action will be made only after protest while all retirements will be investigated automatically. If any incidents reported/protested,we will take individual approach to each of them to decide best fair resolution or punishment if needed.

Basic guidelines as a reminder:
> Blue flag - you may not deny/block a passing manouvre of laping car and try a repass right after it. In qualification it means - stay off racing line and don't disturb drivers on hotlap.
> Shortcuts - 2 wheels on track at all times. Track is mostly marked by white lines, while also curbs count towards track. Overtaking outside track limits counts as illegal and will be penalized in case of a protest.
> Contacts - have to be avoided at all costs as always when racing open wheel cars, that includes also bumpdrafting.
> Pit exit - allthough there will be no mandatory pitstop in this league, due smaller fuel tank pitting will be needed,so pit exit lines will have to be respected - drivers may not cross the pit exit line with more than 2 wheels and have to make way for cars racing at full speed. Failing to comply with this rule will award them with 10s penalty, while causing incidents will result in bigger penalty. Pit entry lines will not be monitored, they serve just as guidelines.
> Pitlane speed - 2 rounds are run on tracks where is no LFS-side enforced pitlane speed limit. Here the speed will not be monitored, however if an incident happens due high speeds, driver will be penalized for avoidable incident.
> Chatting - it's not completely outruled, but still drivers are expected to concentrate on racing. In case of too much chatting while ignoring messages asking to cease chatting,a penalty may be given. In case of any abusive/offensive language a penalty will be given! Any in server present observers/spectators are not allowed to chat at all during race session!
> Lags - if there are any connection issues, driver will be asked to improve (close internet using programs). If driver will be considered as dangerous due to unstable connection and high ping,he will not be allowed to participate at the current round.
> Hacks/cheats - if used, you will not race with us. Ever. As simple as that.

Possible penalties:
> WARNING - any minor infraction that needs to be noted without penalty. Warned driver might receive bigger penalty for other infractions.
> 10s added to finish time - minor infractions, like illegal passing, pit exit line violation, too much chatting.
> 30s added to finish time - medium infractions, like causing avoidable incident[s] without serious consequences, illegal passing.
> 60s added to finish time (1 lap penalty in rounds 2 and 3) - medium infractions, like causing avoidable incident[s] with consequences to other drivers (like damage, multiple position loss) or unsportsmanlike behaviour.
> Disqualification for 1 or more rounds - heavy infractions, multiple incidents, unsportsmanlike behaviour. After serving disqualification, driver will automatically carry a "warning" for the rest of season.
> Series exclusion (including ban for any other events run under Race Green Events control) - serious infractions like intentional/revenge wrecking, event sabotage and any other malicious act.

The august round as pretty much expected draw a realtivelly small attendance - just 12 drivers attended, representing just 8 of 25 available cars, causing others to tumble down the order, this will add another reason to redesign manufacturers championship format for next year. Despite the lowest number of cars on track in race, there were still some unexpected happenings and disputes for finishing positions.

4 weeks after his 1st RandomCar podium finish,Thehemuli added a race win to his achievements - already in lap one he used the polesitters mistake to challenge for lead and since the polesitter made even bigger mistake in next turn,he was in large lead right away, led all 28 race laps to finish first with 8 seconds lead. The finn scored the 1st race win for the Imprezzive B2 and 3rd win in row for all-wheel-driven cars. Despite the early mistake and finding himself on the tale end of the field right after it,Unite still proved he is the fastest on track with his Piran Firefly as he set the fastest laptimes in both sessions, but had to settle for 2nd place finish - still his best result in this league, improving from 10th place finish in round 6. Motimoukari brought his Ultimate Road Car home in 3rd position, which is his 1st top10 finish in this league.

The standings top 7 drivers did not attend this round, which lead the 8th place driver to climb up to 6th position, while top5 remains unchanged after this round - V.Lagooga still remains in lead by 7 points over Nosle and 10 over RD2.

In teams standings there are changes on top however - S1dus remains in lead, but the closest rival is now RGA,which is 10 points behind,B2R with no attendance dropped down to 3rd with 30 points deficite. With 2nd round of no attendance,Lithuania's lead has now shrunk from dominating amount to just 3 points as Finland kept scoring points, including their highest single round score in this round. Remaining 3 top5 nations are unchanged in both points count and positions. URC1 was not represented in previous 2 rounds,so the lead has been cut a lot,but in latest round the 3rd place finish kept them in 19 points lead over 2nd place which is now taken by Imprezzive,Talot dropped to 3rd place just 2 points behind 2nd.

FXO was the belowed car of the randomizer in this round - a total of 6 drivers received it for this round, however only 2 took part. Still no new driver received same car for 3rd time, however few 2-timers have been added, most notably M@CI3K received a 3rd car for the 2nd time.

The penultimate round will bring us to Kyoto, but no standard configuration was selected by the winner - it's the 4.18 kilometer RGE made version of non-standard configuration known under name "North",which features 2 of 180° hairpins on each end of the oval turn 2 straight. Also on the weekend a voting will be started for addition of a new car in the cars lineup - the voting frequency has been reduced to once per 2 rounds basis after reaching 25 cars count.

As much as I would like to try to race this one...
...there are way too much more needed improvements to LFS than this.

The upside of league races is that you know what and where racing happens, that might be the reason why organized racing is still going strong despite the decrease of online activity.

Race statistics / RTFR .mpr folder / Event rating and other statistics (will be updated later this week)

For some this might have been return to past, where they were running single make races with very similar cars, not because it was so much fun,but because you simply wanted to reach 100% completion. However this was not just a "real driving simulator" on a console, this was a proper racing sim with actual human rivals and the field was much bigger - a total of 26 cars were standing on grid and ready to race. The K-car type car delivered just 64 horsepower,so it was surely no high speed race, but still the average race speed exceeded 100 km/h,despite just 4 drivers being able to exceed 150 km/h top speed mark during the race. This race reached a milestone yesterday in RTFR history - the total distance of all RTFR races exceeded 25 thousand kilometers.

Despite this race being just half as fast as previous race,it was won by the same driver, even if he's rather known for racing faster cars - Gábor scored the 2nd race win in row and started his 4th winning streak, only his teammate and latelly in RTFR inactive Botsi has more winning streaks. Additionally Gábor added to his stats the 24th racewin,17th pole position (tied 3rd most now),19th fastest lap of the race and 49th top5 finish, but in country level he scored 30th racewin for Hungary - it's the 3rd country reaching this mark. After some more or less physical disputes on track R.Kardol secured the 2nd place finish, which is his 79th top5 finish, his rival Fatal did not report anything,so the after race discussions reached some settlement between drivers - 3rd in the results for the finn, which is his 21st top5 finish. From 17 previous RTFR starts PedroBR was able to reach 9th as his best finishing result, seems he found his specialisation car as he finished 4th yesterday, while his 6th place in qualifying halved the number of his best previous best qualifying. His more experienced teammate Michal closed the top5 - the 101st RTFR start brought him 12th top5 finish.

Next week at the same server there will be a much more colorful field - it is time for the 8th round of our brand new RandomCar series, league where drivers get drawn their cars out of pool of 25 cars from PL200 class (balanced around LFS's TBO class). For those not signed up or being marked inactive - make sure you signup or reactivate before monday's draw to have whole 24h time of practice. In 2 weeks RTFR server will be returned to RTFR duties - the combo was announced during the broadcast,so check it for some information, full info as always in the weekend before the race. And in 3 weeks time RTFR XL will bring a quite classic LFS combo - FO8 at Aston North Reversed.

Quote from rane_nbg :How do we agree on which setup to choose as a "fixed one"?

I see 2 options on this one:
1 - server side enforcement (server owner/admin sets required limitations in server options/config)
2 - mod side limitation (mod creator selects what settings are changable and what are fixed)
