Quote from farcar :There is no question about the Scavier's commitment to LFS, but I reckon there are 2 things that desperately need attention for it to hold it's audience: (...)
2/ A game structure to bridge the gap between pickup races and leagues. I sense that a lot of people can't commit to leagues, but get frustrated at the aimless nature of pickup races and the often crappy standards of driving.

The second point in particular I think is what has drawn people from LFS to iRacing. I also think that they would come back pretty quickly if this structure was put in place.

While it won't be an offical developer-supported thing, I think the new version of CTRA (x2) will be able to provide such an environment. Apparently it aims to provide both pick-up racing, league racing and teams within the package. It sounds very promising, I think!

Yes, the nixim mod does. However there are other mods that don't. Before I got the nixim mod I used the "cheap&easy"-mod, which is completely reversible and untraceable, yet makes heel&toe much much easier. Basically all it does is elevate the brake and clutch pedal by adding some washers behind the pedal "plate".

Quote from Mazink :I just ordered my G25 today, I will receive it in 3 day
anything I shall do or watch out for?

thanks

You should get plenty of sleep the night before so you can spend all day + night playing with it!

Oh, and if you find the pedals a little uncomfortable you should check out the variety of excellent pedal mods. Just do a search on the forum. The Nixim mod is highly recommendable IMO.

Quote from AlienT. :Leos pedal thingy makes subtle but noticable difference Gnomie......you know when you move your foot on the pedal during calibration etc how the onscreen pedal indicator bar maybe jerks slightly or appears to very briefly lag well when you move the pedal? well this is much smoother with el Leo gadgit, it's also easier to maintain a more accurate certain ammount of throttle/brake. I would liken the effects of the mod to taking a valium if you were having a fit of the DT's.

I like the comparison!

Hm.. I will have to give this some thought.. As I said I've never really noticed a problem with the brake "resolution" as it is now. But that doesn't mean I wouldn't notice a difference with Leo's mod.

By the way, installing this would mean I would be using all my six USB ports..

Quote from AlienT. :but what I'd really like is a mod that makes the pedal lenghts adjustable so I can practise heel and toe, the standard set up makes this very awkward.

I have the nixim mod too, and it really made heel&toe much easier than with the stock pedals! So for anyone interested in heel&toe I'd definitely recommend it. However I'm not quite sure that I've installed it correctly.. I read somewhere that the travel distance of the brake should be halved, but in my case it's not. My deadzone is much smaller than that. I also can't really fully depress the pedal, even if I apply full force. This means that when I heel&toe the force on the brake pedal goes down for a split second as I flip my foot over. Which isn't exactly ideal.. Did I do something wrong?

I'd never heard of Leo's mod before, and frankly I'm a little sceptical. How can increasing the resolution in any way help..? I've never considered the pedals to be particularly unsmooth. Could someone say a little more about how they make a difference in actual gameplay?

Quote from Mp3 Astra :As a note to everybody - I am after other news such as skins or screenshots or videos or INSIM applications - I've done a little test drive of SIG, which will be in the next report.

Yep, I think you would do well in not including too much league stuff. After all, leagues are primarily interesting to those who race there themselves. Sure, there might be very interesting single races with lots of hefty action and overtaking and stuff which might be worth reporting, but other than that I'd advise you to keep it to a minimum.

I'm looking forward to your report!

Quote from AlienT. :Yep I'm on a break also......over 50k online miles last year and now I have only played once since the last patch. Another sim has my attention right now, but I'll be back sometime I just know it .

May I ask what other sim you're playing now? I'd imagine that it would be hard for an experienced LFSer like you to find a sim that you think is good enough..

Quote from sgt.flippy :I was tempted to get those. If you search "moobs" on google it's one of the first you get. But I preferred my less radical family guy one. I used to have it on another forum too.

Maybe because it reminds me of me

I've only been playing LFS for less than a year, so I guess I don't even qualify to answer this question. But part of what's been keeping LFS "fresh" for me is all the new gadgets that I've gotten; multiple brake mods, FreeTrack +++. Each of them adds a little more to the immersion, which makes LFS closer to living out its true potential.

And best of all, some of these mods are very cheap or even free. Try it out! Can't hurt. (Check out the FreeTrack thread in the Other Hardware forum for starters!)

I'd recommend getting a motherboard with four RAM slots, and then buying 2x2GB for now. Then you can upgrade later on with another 2x2GBs if you feel the need for that. It's always cheaper to upgrade when you actually need something than to try to be one step ahead all the time..

Yes, you will. I, too, changed from MOMO to G25, and the change is significant. The FFB is stronger and more precise. Also having 900 degrees of rotation to play with makes all the difference.

But I think you should reconsider about using the H-shifter. If you can get used to it, it makes the game so much more fun! I play for realism rather than speed, and for me heel&toeing, 720 degrees of rotation and H-shifter is the most fun part. Without the G25 none of this would be possible.

Congrats on your purchase! No matter how you play you won't regret it.

Quote from SpikeyMarcoD :I experienced the brake on automatically flaw on my Rev B and brought it back under warranty (1.3 years old) and i got a Rev C now.

Anybody got experiences with durability on Rev C.?

Where does it say if it's Rev C or not?

Or "the LFS player whose replays you've watched most often, when trying to improve on a certain track/car". Then you would be pretty high on my list.

Honestly, though, I don't understand why people care about helmets.. who looks at them anyway? Car skins, interiors, wheels, gloves and all that I can understand, but why helmets..?

Quote from dawesdust_12 :... He didn't need to have a licence to win the car.

I guess what he meant was that Jay's LFS experience made him more likely to win the competition. I don't think the non-LFSers stood much of a chance really.

Quote from Mike Bingo :Did anyone buy Victor a beer?

And did you manage to lure out of him some interesting information about LFS? I feel that I know way too little about how the team works, how they arrange things inbetween themselves and all that stuff.. that's what I would ask Victor about if I met him. (I'd imagine he could talk about general stuff like that without feeling pressed to reveal secrets about future plans etc..?)

Quote from danowat :Theres a MASSIVE difference in something being ready to show at a games convention (or any convention for that matter) and something that is ready for public consumption.

Why is that, exactly? Why would Volkswagen allow a poorly modelled, unfinished version of their car to be used in a promo event? Wouldn't they require the modelling to be as accurate and real as possible? What if some of the people at the convention tried the car in LFS and said "hey, this car handles like rubbish, I'll never buy this!"? How could that be good for VW?

I think it will happen when he accelerates out of a junction and forces the engine up to 7500RPM (like in LFS), which the poor Proton can't handle, so the engine breaks and bits and pieces go flying everywhere. Then a sprocket hits him square between the eyes and his head explodes.

Nah, I think you'll be fine. Driving on a road is so much different from racing (real or sim) that you won't confuse the two. As long as you satisfy your "hunger for speed" through LFS you'll be allright.
