I was within a hair's breadth of signing up to be a First beta-tester but the legal battle over mods put me off, to say the least.
Is there anyone here who will admit to doing beta-testing for First? I have to admit I am still very curious to see how Kaemmer's work will turn out, and I have a lot of respect for his programming if not for his diplomacy.
So, has anyone driven the iRacing sim that's under development? Want to give us your impressions? Or would that get lawyers raining down on us? If so, then please feel free to keep quiet, I have no desire to get Scavier into trouble.
Is this true? Does LFS really have a younger user-base than rFactor or GTR or games like that? Not disagreeing with you, I just don't know. And I always had the impression that age groups were about the same across these sims.
I could believe that LFS has a younger demographic than GPL though.
If you're actually in spectate mode, I think it's already the case that you can't vote for a restart. Don't you need to be in a car?
(Not that this would solve the problem. I agree that a 100% unanimous vote from all cars on the lead lap would be a great condition for restarts. I get tired of these whining babies. )
Yes, I agree that RSC is not always the happiest place in the world, but I'll always be grateful that it existed or I might not have drifted (if you'll excuse the expression ) over from NR2003 and GPL to the world of LFS.
Generic, if you want to see what combos people are using, go to the LFS world web site and look up the online stats for a few randomly chosen users. You can choose between looking at people's personal best times (online) on each track, or the number of laps they have done on each track/car combo. I think my data shows a lot of time at AS Club in the FOX for example. Browsing a few different profiles should let you see where the action is. I think a lot of people are either open-wheeler people (FOX, FO8, BF1) or GTR people.
Duke, I am guessing that the 26 million pound bond or whatever it is probably keeps the joke F1 applications to a bare minimum.
(Although Super Aguri seem to be determined to get to their punchline ).
On the general topic of turning sim racing into a professional sport, I don't know what to think about that. To the OP: have you ever played online poker? If not, you should try it. Look at some of the abuse and bad feeling that gets generated by even quite small amounts of money changing hands. If you put the monetary aspect into a sim-racing environment, I think you cannot even begin to imagine the fragfest that would result.
Sorry, Zeugnimod, I guess I was unclear. I was trying to express agreement with you: people who say that post-S3 there will be modding are guilty of wishful thinking to the point of being deceptive.
This is a really excellent point. If we all want the Ring so badly, why aren't the servers full of FE Black and KY GP Long, the nearest equivalents?
From GPL and various NR2003 mods, I always had a love-hate relationship with the Ring, but if I am honest, my most satisfying racing and indeed my most "in the zone" laps always came on shorter tracks. Really learning the Ring is a lifetime's work,I think, and we all waste far too much time in LFS already.
No problem. You know how it is: some people like chocolate, some people like strawberry. You guys must be enjoying those oval races or you wouldn't do it so much, so more power to you.
Adding my two cents worth very late but I just wanted to say thanks to all those who helped come up with this idea -- what a great plan. LFS offers so much variety and not many people seem keen to exploit that.
I had the first of many cans of whoop-ass opened on me when I joined the odd combo server the other night for some FE Rally X action. I will be back for more punishment soon, I promise.
