Quote from alland44 :I have done this kind of thinking myself, but never dreamed of this beeing implemented. i am for this, but I keep dreaming, myself, I !

Realism is not the game, in Lfs. They would have to solve the view first !!!

Nothing else matters. A 20 - 25 degrees view on a screen, is NOT realistic. So what do I care about this - Nothing !

Then we have to talk about the G-forces, the feelings of a real car. How do you implement that ?

But I would settle for the view, and go on from there. But NOT a 20 - to 25 degree inside view.

I can see at least 180 degrees in my IRL car. But who cares

How would you change that? The bottleneck is the hardware, not LFS. If you use multiple monitors you get a wider view, if you use freetrack ( http://www.lfsforum.net/showthread.php?t=42422 )you get a wider view. Both allready possible with LFS.

Quote from obsolum :Yeah, a guy on the Freetrack forums called Marcus makes caps with IR LEDS in them, see Gnomie's post earlier in this thread, he posted pictures of the cap. I also find the cap to be really comfortable, it feels just like a normal cap and even looks like one, too. At first glance you hardly notice the leds that are sewn into it. I'd rather wear such a cap instead of some goofy looking device that a lot of other users use

You can order the cap here for $29.99 (with the weak dollar that's a bargain), but there'll be shipping costs added, depending on where you live ($9 outside of the American continent). It gets sent to you by mail. I received mine after 10 days of ordering online, I live in Belgium. In total it cost me about € 25,5 (will be the same for you). I find that affordable Of course, you do need a webcam, so if you don't have one yet you'll have to buy one like I did.

Thanks, i've bought one too from the guy now (have to try this ). What webcam have you bought for it? Not all webcams on TrackIr website are that good available.

Quote from obsolum :Hey, no court has decided that Freetrack is illegal so...

I got my cap in the mail yesterday (too lazy and not enough patience to try and build one myself).

Are there complete caps available? I"m not that handy with electronics and thought about abusing a 3-led bicycle light for this if there are complete caps somewhere then that could be a better option

Nobody drives the dragstrip so why do we need a special car? If you like a drag car try something with LFS Tweak (you can change tires and engine, i tried it and it is fun for only 5 minutes).

Eh? i am using Mozilla (it's always Big Pimpin on my pc with Firefox and the Pimpzilla theme)

I've never used Internet Explorer, but i do use [b]stupid software relying on Internet Explorer[/]. Me and stupid software are two different things)

There isn't.

Works perfected. Only stupid software relying on IE6 doesn't work anymore properly on my PC.

Congrats. Have to say it's a really good LFS movie. Like how the cars come back again with full sound and speed after the softer part of the music.

Quote from nihil :Laser scanned? I would like to have higher resolution elevation data available from a google earth type application. I would then like to be able to select an area of land, trace out a track or route, and then import it into the simulator of my choice. The sim would then automatically generate a track, which could then be elaborated on by hand if I so wished.

It would help if sim developers would actually start sharing tracks rather than reinventing the wheel (so to speak...) everytime 'Joe Simcrafter' fancies creating the next gen driving experience....

Buy SimCity. You can even drive around in your city
Quote from Chaos :I drove all the corners too many times already and when I organise a league I just have a strong feeling of deja-vu when selecting the tracks for the next league... I don't know the intentions of the devs, but letting such an opportunity to slip through their hands is a bit sad... I just hope they will awaken soon and realize that
LFS needs some new content (tracks especially) to keep the people interested.

Isn't that normal in racingleagues? Schumager didn't moan he had to drive Monza year after year (not saying i would not appreciate new content)

Quote from Dac :im still not with you. i dont know how the patch system works?

tweak?

A program that changes values of the car (engine/driven wheels) so you can drive other (faster/slower) cars.

Strange effect. The AI should be slow on oval because they slow downt at points where you don't have to. Have you tried hotlap the oval hotlap and race setups?

Since when is a cheap wheel with low wheel rotation an advantage against a G25?

Quote from MonkOnHotTinRoof :I guess there are more farmers than racers. Also farming is a bit more useful to human kind than just polluting air and burning fuel for the sake of it .

Farming is indeed more useful, but sim-farming isn't

Quote from frokki :You really don't need to know what gear you are in (At least I didn't when I used paddles).
But if that's really necessary, I think we all can count to 7.

If I had a paddle shifting race car IRL, I would not miss the gear indicator...
How often do you check what gear you are in when driving a road car?

Wel, you need to count and sometimes i miss a gear (don't know if that's my crappy wheel or if that's simulated, but i'm happy when i have a visual on that in the roadcars because that's quicker then noticing you revs are all wrong. You could replace it with a visual shifter, but i think this is ok too.
Quote from Equinox :Option to enable/disable it on the HUD

Then if you are driving in interior view, and want a gear indicator, you can enable it on the HUD and it appears somewhere onscreen, or you can turn it off, so none shows !

There we go, debate on that

Sarge.

I agree, but then you have people whining because it's unfair that they don't have the visual because the choose not too and other do have it what gives them an advantage.

Quote from 5haz :People here will always tell you that rFactor isnt a sim, because they are hellbent on bashing rFactor, most of these people have probrably never played rFactor, but just follow the 'ringleaders' because they are unable to think for themselves.

rFactor is still infierior to LFS though.

I have tried, but i still don't like rFactor. There is no feeling with the cars (did not try that realfeel plugin, but basic stuff like that should not need plugins). Too bad, i like the fact that there are a lot of mods for it (pain in the *ss for pickup racing but great for leagues), but i can't drive them. I have the same problem for GTR2 and Race07 (wish i had a money back offer for those, i never play them).

Quote from kamilek12 :yeah i want someone to make a new one because i have a old one and i did a quick lap in the xfg and i got a 1:09 seconds which is frankly quicker than all the cars on top gear they actually test lol

There is not enough space i guess for a 1:1 scaled circuit.

I now play on:
XP 2000+
Radeon 9500
256 Mb ram

Ow, most important part: Formula™ Force EX

A year later i play on:
Athlon X2 6000+
Redeon HD 2600Pro
2048 Mb Ram
250 GB Diskspace

Also i replaced my 17" TFT by a 22" widescreen. The steering wheel is still the same Formula™ Force EX and the OS is still Windows XP.

Quote from Cue-Ball :I think the main problem is that LFS relies so heavily on the three letter acronyms for cars and tracks. Someone who is not very familiar with the game doesn't know what track FE2 is. They don't know an XFG from and XRT. LFS needs to move away from these acronyms and give users more visual clues about what is going on. Three letters works great for setting up a server configuration file, but is just too damn confusing to the average user (and especially to new users).

This system has a lot of advantages for people that do know where it stands for. But I agree with the first post. Some information of trackname and short trackname in setupscreen would be nice

1. Feeling. I've tried Race/Race07/GTR2/Rfactor but i get no response in that from the car (not like from LFS).
2. Community. I like the forums and organized leaks.
3. Development. I like to watch this game grow with every patch.
4. Of course the online racing. I'm not the fastest on the track, but it is always good racing for a place in the midfield.
