Have you tried a different browser? Each router will be different and its impossible to support every single one, but the LFS Manual (Wiki) should help you with the ports you need opened. (link at the top of every forum page).
After a quick google search, ive not found anything exactly for that router, but surely if you look, you will find a manual of sorts or a guide somewhere. In my experience (limited) its the Firewall Rules and Ports options that are needed and most important.
But first, we have to get you past your browser issues, which cannot be done, unless we know what you are using
I will assume you are running windows as you failed to tell us that one in your post/rant. I know from experience its easy to say "it didn't work" but after a while one starts to question how much effort one puts into the kind of thing where a process and careful consideration is needed.
Hosting an LFS Server locally is not hard. The post TAA linked you too in the first responce does contain everything you need to get your server working. This is also on the LFS Manual, a resource which I've personally found very useful in starting from scratch over the last few days.
Ive followed the instructions on there step by step, then played a little lfs on the server.
Incorrect. If you were to "buy" a server from a server company, you would be "renting" that server, which would already be all setup for others to be able to see, thus taking away the hosting issues from yourself.
Are you making sure that you are starting the server as "internet" and not local or hidden?
Not possible for more than one car to start in any other position or direction other than the start/finish position. Suggest placing an immediate U-turn corner after the start/finish line/lights, thus forcing a reverse direction.
So ok not quite what you wanted, but its a work around.
Sounds like you have a bunch of offers GF, but I for one was supprised with all the work and promotion you do for your league that you didnt already have a "Gentlefoot" team to fall back on.
Members of the GFC and GTTC already talk about things as a "team" so surely thats natural progression.
Not to sound discouraging, but if your not to hot on computer stuff, can I recommend one of the many LFS Hosting companies we have flooding our market.. Might work out easier for you in the long run.
Try the unofficial addons section of the forum. This isnt a host issue. As for the question, im sure in the LFS Lapper thread you will find your answer.
You dont seem to have given this that much thought. I agree (for the first time) with birder here.. It takes time and its not easy. When are you advertising your events..? How much time are you giving people to see them on the Race Calendar before they actually happen? What is the special thing that makes people think "oh I really want to go and choose that server out of the 600+ available.
The "Special" thing as far as I can tell at the moment is that you server runs with 13 slots..
The Public/Private thing.. Surely you have that the wrong way around.. In my experience, if you want your server full, run a popular combo on a public server until you get regulars, then go for organised events on a private server.
Finally.. Even in Australia.. Dont people work in the day time? Would the peak point not still be in the evening for the Australia Community?
Well after finding out I dont know what im talking about, the will to helping you detail vanishes.
Regardless,
I use a VPS from Knownhost. Search for them. They are US based. I dont have console access, which is what I got the impression you required.
@ mcgas001, the company you said you used, do you get access to the "virtual machine" as detail puts in from his "definition" ? Is that access through a web-based control panel, or actual remote desktop access to the virtual machine?
LFS Lapper (in its first instance) used to include a feature were you can tell it to recognise different players. It now uses licence names I believe. Ive not used lapper for a very long time, so I cannot be sure, but I remember some used to use it to give team members.. functions within servers etc..
Might be useful information to read/download lfs lapper..
Thats a fairly long sentence, ive quoted it entirely as so not to be accused of miss-quoting.
Generally, you will find that a team which has a "real" domain/website wont be one of these so-called "forum teams" which are set-up on Monday and disbanded on Wednesday.
Generally, if you are in a team, or to be accepted to a team, then they will wish you to visit their team website, that point, is in most cases, a deal breaker.
Personally, I don't wish to waste your time at all, it frankly doesn't seem worth it to bother with you. You seem to be very stuck into what you are looking for with no wiggle room whatsoever.
Of the two offers which you were very lucky to have had posted with such a "high and mightly" opening post, both websites are worth a visit. Both have many active members and both would not comply with the quoted above.
Lack of respect.. from yourself you mean, yes, that is sad, however, expected these days.
The least "us guys" can do is not post and keep your opinions to yourself.. Take a little look at where you are. You are posting on a forum. A forum is a place for discussion. Get used to seeing people's opinions.
It has nothing to do with lack of respect. If you do not wish your time to be "wasted", then please, don't waste others.
As for awaiting a "good patch".. Well that together with not having your time wasted, I believe would put your potential chances of getting a place with any team posting here, down low. Very low.
im sorry but I hardly think that online racing within a sim like lfs is going to have any negative effect on your real life karting. The G25 in lfs (im guessing, I dont have one) is not "crap" as you stated. I use a DFP, which has the same 900 degree of streering lock available to it.
But, you dont have to use the full 900 degree of lock. LFS doesn't have a kart. Its not something which can be easily compared in my opinion, but for it to be crap, i would suggest that it is just not set up right.
Im not a karter, never have been, but I do drive, and have driven single seater racing cars in the days gone by. - Ive never noticed a negative effect caused by a simulator.
Why not set your G25 to 90 degrees and try driving within lfs like that..?
Google. Perhaps posting in the Requests area of the Programmer's forum. Perhaps searching these forums for the several (thousand) other similar requests.
Where to start.. I might be wrong, which is why I dont program mod's for LFS, but I was made to believe that these tweak mods edit things stored in memory from LFS, so perhaps a starting place would be to learn how to edit LFS Memory, Learning InSim and OutGuage, and learning a programming language.
To answer the opening post's question. Yes, there are many teams recruiting at this time. Should you wish to find them, why not try reading the Team's subsection of the LFS Forums.
As a team owner myself, there are several points which you typed which turn me off, away from yourself as a potential applicant. The largest one is you not wishing to have replies with people redirecting you to their team website, which - in whatever condition it is in, - is something which those teams and their members have worked long and hard on creating to provide people, like yourself, with a nice place to visit, and to keep in contact with team members and the general public.
