well, it has about 10 different paths available to it, and one of those is the data/dds folder for my LFS Installation. I did this after installing the nvidia dds plugin and restarted the software and checked. I havent rebooted but i wouldnt have thought that was required.

Quote :As sponsors of the LFS4FREE challenge/league we at Dynamic Racing (an established, fast, active top team in LFS) would like to offer the winning driver a Junior/Trainee drive in our team!

I think this is scaring them all away.

When we did the demo league, it was hard to gain intrest also. I set up a demo server and had some auto message's detailing the league which brought them to the forum/info. Maybe that would help. If you like the idea and need a server, let me know. (i guess you wouldnt need a server, doh )

I would say most are still rolling around laughing!
Established? How is a 1 month old team established? hehe
I had to check that, but 18th Feb for the post stating DR (breifly Apex Racing) had formed, personally i'd say at least 6 months needs to be on the clock to consider yourself established, with the number of teams forming then dying months later i think thats pretty reasonable IMO.

Although it would be borderline spamming it might be worthwhile putting this in the n00b area of this forum, because i'd bet 90% of the visitors to this forum are regulars (and i'd bet 99% of the site hits are from about 4 people!! ) and it could be that the people playing the demo just dont have the same interest level to keep checking back on the forum for that site. Take most games that you've tried a demo of, you wouldnt always go digging round their official forums (the few that dare have them!) to read stuff, most people play for a few hours and go back to what they're doing, and its the more fanatical people which frequently visit these places digging for information, not the people who are occasional players.

How you fix that, dunno, but that could be part of your problem

shutting the damn thing up whenever i load up scenes and go to render them
those pesky tga files
PaulC2K
S3 licensed
Does anyone have these tga files converted from the existing dds files that could possibly make them available to download?

483 objects, i'd be f****d if im converting every single one in photoshop
(edit, ok it seems most of those are scenery related rather than all car, but still a bloomin lot of them are car model textures)

I've got the photoshop plugin but if all 483 of those dds files need to be made into tga files i think i'll be giving up on it all sooner than i will be loading up PS.
I also have the DDS plugin for 3dsm but it would seem to be the scenes themselves that want those textures, and as i dont know how to manually replace each texture with a dds version it does seem thats pointless to me also, so im hoping that as most people would obviously have these files available to them to do the renders that maybe they could be made available to everyone? I think ive done 3-4 cars already, but just moving onto others after not touching them for a while has just made me remember these damn files, and ive just spent ages locating ancient versions of LFS for the original tga's only to realise halfway through downloading that of course its not going to help me with the S1/S2 cars anyway

So, anyone know of a painfree solution, preferably before i pull all my hair out

And its still worth every penny Todd.

Out of interest, are you guys aware that your early-ish testers still have the 1yr unlimited licence? im pretty sure i did the last time i looked although seeing as i spent 6mth with a dodgy USB lead and only got it fixed when spotting Peter in Turin back in June... and how come its always him im seeing and never you?
Thats probably why i think its worth every penny though Still got 1yr old tracks ive not used though (3 of the 4 that came out with Halifax got a few laps, Heemstade, Messina and [insert other] around same time) as although i wasnt bad with kb it lost its main appeal.

As for the line about RC folk being used to that for a weekends racing, thats true, but can you imagine how much it'd cost to get to do what LFS Simulates in real life, makes £36 (which is pretty much what every game is released around in the UK, £30-40) a bargin, and i'd bet 90% of the people playing LFS have played this more than pretty much every other game they've bought, probably only comparable to the likes of maybe quake/wow/css/gpl level of game where you've gone back time after time without it losing the appeal most games do after a month or so.

Personally i wouldnt have a problem paying for additional content, provided it wasnt done at the expense of normal progress. If it ment hiring an additional person to either share the building of car/track models or the new guy handled the lot, couldnt give a hoot (within reason). I've never had a problem with paying for additional content, provided its value for money, and anyone that says LFS isnt worth what they've paid or twice that is pretty tightfisted (whether thats what some have been getting at or not) but it does seem fairly obvious that they're going to do this as a 3 man team and it'll be finished when they feel like it.

So, i'd pay for additional content provided progress wasnt harmed by this, but dont see paying any sum of money would speed things up because they clearly dont care about any time-line, they want to do it their way under their control.
It wouldnt suprise me if theres very few of the pre-S1 folk still playing by the time LFS developement stops, i'd put money on S3 final for 2010 at the earliest.

Quote from bawbag :Btw, I never said it was wrong what you done, just pretty silly to do so early on as all it would do is give the drivers behind a chance to overtake and the guys ahead to pull away while you were both crawling around on the inside.

Silly, sure.. most incidents seems silly when sitting back and just watching them - not to mention with all the various angles we can chose from.

Your saying that to someone was given a stop-go after a chain reaction caused by the leading car hitting the brakes 2 seconds after the race had started on a rolling-start! That was in MoE too, where you expect a better standard of driver (certainly from pole-sitter anyway) and instead they're braking 3 distinct rules in 6 seconds and getting away with it unpunished while someone caught up gets punished because of other peoples actions and could do nothing about it (he moved to the left side and fractions of a second AFTER he started moving left into space the car on that side had to brake because of the pole numpty braking midway down the straight!)

Sometimes your going to get screwed over and it seems your forced to accept it, whether its right or blatently wrong.

Well grats guys, I'll be waiting for a replay if anyone has one uploaded

multi-car collision on opening lap.
bit dubious tbh, he didnt give bawbag room the corner before and nudged him off onto the grass at the exit, bawbag tried to hang onto the inside but was probably too far back with dirty tyres to really hold the move. catalog of silly maneuvers really, bawbag ended up losing time with a bent car, norbi felt the force of LFS collision detection and the oncoming pack of cars and decided to bail.

how come you were taking screenshots mid-race though? i think thats what you said ctrl+s was, wasnt aware of LFS having it in-game but guess it could be a fraps shortcut, but tbh i cant quite understand why the need for being anywhere near that area midway through a race.

XRR v FXR would have been fine, its definately a more even pairing, but what is the fuel/tyre situation like? would they still be evenly matched at the 2hr mark or would the FXR need to stop for tyres twice compared to XRR stopping once.
I know what you mean though, currently it might as well be FZR v UF1.

How is the pairing working out in DTM? Those are the sort of distances we should be looking to cover in the GTR round next series of BOTT, and if they're consistantly close races it might actually be a good idea to copy a round from that series which has proved to be equal for those 2 cars, and drop the FZR (of course if the Dev's did the decent thing and fixed these bl**dy cars sometime this decade we might be able to get close racing with all 3 cars!!).

Have a nice day
Im guessing the 'team joke' revolves around Appie mutating into a generic yank, if not, that'll be my new inside-joke which i wont tell anyone about!! especially you lot!

Quote from Arrow. :Hi everyone

Just wondering if anyone would be interested in writing up a detailed race report after each round to be displayed on www.lfsnews.net
You would be granted access to the server while the event is on

So any talented writers out there interested

I thought that was what i was doing?

Im going to pretend that i've done last weeks report (along with Bio's ESL, and the MoE finale)
Once i have the time to go through them i'll be doing those reports (including a series-suitable version for BOTT rather than a Mercury-centered one) but im quite busy at the moment with work.

Well, i dont think the timetable needs modifying, but it definately needs to be stuck to more. Im not sure the practicing is really needed, although to be fair having everyone there driving round before going into the Qual usually highlights any issues then (ie Lag) rather than dealing with it during an official timed session.

But the breaks need to be stuck to, it doesnt take 5min+ for a toilet/drink break so this in particular needs to be addressed so it doesnt turn into a 10min chit-chat.

After that, the timetable and schedule were stated at the start of the season, that is what we all signed up to do so its a bit late to want to change everything around, nothing has changed since then, its not like 2 months ago it was a 1hr race but because of car tweaking its now 2hrs long, circumstances havent changed.

For the record though, dropping the 50 lap rule would be a good idea for next season, stick to 60-90/120 min races and base the laps on it finishing somewhere between those times.

But didnt you feel it was almost a disservice to your team having to trundle round the tracks in the FXR? Its just that it doesnt matter how good a drive you put in you never really get the reward you deserve. I guess swapping to FZR halfway through the season would be tricky, its just that the current setup is so grosely unbalanced its more of 'a sham' than 'a shame'!

Mika needs to read his emails from time to time also

Kinda agree on the airtime comment, things do turn into masterblaster.FM from time to time Although when there is scrapping its fair to understand it just frustraiting when its back n forth when there isnt really anything happening.

Its been a good season, and nice for us to finally get a race without any mistakes, I think Thunder would have done enough to pass us if they didnt get disconnected and Ocrana seemed to get enough wrong we didnt ever have them breathing down our necks, we just ran our own race and for a change it went our way. Looking forward to the next season and hopefully try and get a 4 way challenge at the top going, not sure we have enough raw pace to win outright yet but in the last 2 races we've had 3rd (from pole) and 2nd (from 2nd) so we'll be aiming to steal some more podium places, and HOPEFULLY with a balance patch we could have a more interesting season with a evenly mixed pack.

Gratz to Cyber too, just dont make a habit of hauling off into the distance

Its RWD, who cares! from the green light i know everyone driving is doing so thinking each lap they complete is 1 closer to getting into a fwd car

Thunder proved what they can do with only a few days practice, and while its completely different each round i think they'll be right up front again. I dont even know who's driving for us, so highly confident of our team

Some gossip to keep you all interested...
I heard a rumour that fusion have been harrasing Frankie recently, apparently now all fusion drivers are hard-wired into the server!!!

We could also have another interesting fight on our hands, 10 days ago we saw the battle unfold round South City Long, this time the scene is set for a similar scrap between Clownpaint v's his father! Clownpaint Snr won last time, but who will take the re-match?? :jedi:

Every time i start a conversation with bawbag he instantly replies 'Im not doing it', doesnt matter how many times i ask him to race he doesnt want to know, ive even suggested 'oral favours', but he still says no, apparently he prefers being on the receiving end

No offense intended to any of the above, except baggy, he really should appreciate the size of my offer

im not that keen on using photos/screenies for wallpapers but i've done the odd render for 2560x1024 which goes on and then proptly goes back to the wallpaper i'll probably be sticking with for quite some time.

http://www.mercuryracingteam.c ... ers/fzr_moe_2560_1024.png (yes, well aware of the floating FZR, bottom right is always last area to come through, 2x 2hr renders screwed up and havent re-rendered since correcting it)
I even did a quad screen 2560x2048 one which took about 3hrs which was just our 3 GTR cars.

Using Fraps i've done quite a few screenshots but 75% are in portrait setup, can get some really nice shots like that i found, only have a few pics in landscape from taken race series events, none online in original size though, but i have resized versions online:

http://www.mercuryracingteam.c ... s/events/SimFIA_DTM/Rnd1/
http://www.mercuryracingteam.c ... s/events/SimFIA_DTM/Rnd2/

My current wallpaper is attached, been using it for about 6 months now and love it, i've just cleaned my desktop of icons as i'd just started my 2nd column on the 2nd monitor! and unlike most wallpapers it still looked great with a ton of icons over it.
Just got round to fitting my dual monitor stand too, wall mounted and adjustable which now allows me to move the monitors to one side for racing (so one monitor is central to me) and into the middle when working, looks much tidier too

Josh,

Good to see you went ahead and did this project

The first thing that strikes me is the multiple references to the same event, because its a seperate session, its kinda cluttered IMO.
Im guessing the reason you've opted for this is because of rounds having sessions spread over multiple dates (ie qualifying on sat, race on sun) would it not be better to only show these sessions if qualDate <> raceDate just so that events like BOTT dont have 3 listings for the same round.
Possibly even link to more detailed information for that event to show the full event schedule for that round.

Meh, ok smartarse, scrap the above :P
Then may i suggest the default appearance is 'events' as thats much easier on the eye IMO

Adding information looks a little complicated, could just be me though. I would feel much more comfortable trying things if i could see a simple way of editting and deleting information which was added that happened to be wrong, especially when trying to figure out what needs to go where.
I do like the 'interactive' aspect of it giving you existing data from the db but as i say it feels a little confusing but it wouldnt bother me so much if i knew what i was doing could be fixed if it was wrong.

I'd say the only issue im having is with confidence, i'd play/mess till i got it right if i knew i could do that, right now i dont want to try something i dont fully understand, so if this was considered final i'd be looking for better instructions so i got it right every time or somewhere i could see i can fix any mistakes (as well as make any alterations if need be later down the line).

Very impressive though, and i'd be interested in knowing if either the db and/or code would be going public, as i mentioned a few posts back its a pain in the rear having to manually enter all the dates in yourself, if there was somewhere central where these dates could be put (much like the calendar here) and everyone could use that site as a source for their own website it'd be real nice.

RE: Dirt layers, Tweak made a kickass Fern Bay style dust/dirt skin for racing round there, i modified it a little after that to create a mud based version for Blackwood too, they really look spot on when theres a few cars racing round with muck all over them, it kinda makes the clean cars look stupid racing next to them.

As with quite a few things i really think this sort of partially-transparent layering needs to be added into LFS, some which as suggested would gradually become more and more visable as time goes by (ie general dirt related to the track, mud, dirt, oil and similar grime typically picked up) and some which should be fully visable and are applied over skins like driver number plates, which just like driver names on windows could allow people to add their car number meaning teams and race organisers dont require additional skins to be made to display a race number, you'd have your car skins and a selection of plate skins for the series your in (ie 1 for team, 4 for different race series) which a number would be overlayed onto in-game in the same manner messages are place onto the race cars.

I'd love to see the implementation of transparent pngs (or some other equally suitable format) at some point to give a time-based effect over the car and also with the number plate skins possibly reduce downloading time when joining servers, most team would just need 1 non-specific skin where the individual aspect would be covered by 1+ drivers numbers & nationality on a plate, its got to be easier downloading 1 car skin & 5x plates than 5x 99% identical car skins.

The posts were deleted most probably because the issues were resolved, and as i said in the above post its probably best if this thread is really used only by the 2 moderators to post official information instead of random comments & discussion.

For the track selection, i guess i didnt see that thread, i only recall the one from a while back asking for the GTR race AS GT/GP i think to be changed to a shorter track (north or national, probably nat). I think midway through a series once the tracks are decided they should only be changed if circumstances force this, I remember doing OLFSL races on SO2 (in S1 days) where the cars right hand side of the grid would have 2 wheels lodged into the tramlines, that track shouldnt be used for events, how the track made S1 in the first place is beyond me, some wonderful beta testing there!

I dont think its a bad thing to ask the team leaders to help make a decision, if they're to call all the shots then thats exactly what they did and people didnt like that decision. I think its a positive thing that they've took that critisism as something they can try and correct if people feel it needs to be done differently. The team leaders are acting on the interest of their team, i guess some opinions could be bias towards their circumstances, but each team has an equal say, they get 1/7th of the decision in their favour, by going public you could end up with your teams comments being 1/2 the opinions and a few not really giving a damn showing no interest when really a fair decision should be made.
I'd hope all decisions wouldn't require putting to the vote, to me this is a question on what the rules should be rather than what should we do for this incident. Its all helping to clarify what the rules are, and hopefully that'll make for a series that works for all teams.

For clarity, i counted 4 uses of shift+s from lap 0 to lap 50 (laps 38 onwards) by 1ST Kenneth, none of which were for any specific reason visable in-game.
So again, IMO thats neither accidental or in the spirit of racing, if the car was wrecked and rather than causing a huge danger to others he did a shift+s then I could understand those actions, what happened because of that would have to be discussed, and again IMO because it was done for reason depending on where and why* a minor time penalty could be added but all laps still counted.

*ie First sector shift+s to the pits to save having to drive a whole lap with a wrecked car = a time penalty.
Last sector shift+s to the pits when 60-90sec into a lap = no time penalty, 90sec lost is enough, their actions were probably more focused on not causing more problems for others than thinking they could just shift+s and just lose the 20sec they were into the lap and carry on where they left off.
all IMO obviously.

th84
well, i'd already posted saying this was the reason and recommended arrow or arco (whoever was deleting them) posted something saying why they were being removed if they were to delete them again.
I assumed that was caught seeing as your reply came after mine, and i didnt get an LFS forum response email suggesting someone else had replied after that, but maybe it was deleted when you went to post.

I must admit that deleting threads does mean peoples comments are binned, some of which are sensible, but they're deleted because unfortunately half of it is just nonsense.
This should have been moved to a seperate thread which wasnt one of the sticky threads, this one should just contain official comments like the series standings and any comments required concerning decisions made, with any discussion/disputing held elsewhere.

oh, and as for 1st at FE RallyX, if resetting to the pits at least once and then parking up is considered the same as being disconnected from the server due to a crashed PC, then they can have their points back.

IMO those actions were no different to leaving the server at your own will, he opted to leave the track and teleport to the pits, Arni had no say in the matter.

Kalev:
WTF?
They wrongly calculated the scores, kick them out of the series!!!
They went with the original combo, which more people AGREED with than disagreed with.
And this, which is being dealt with by talking with the 7 team leaders involved. If you want a dictatorship then im sure Fusion can do that, its their series, however when they're asking for an opinion from the team leader its rather lame to suggest they're dictating how the series is run in their favour.

I feel Arni should have got points, he did everything he could to finish properly, so does make me part of this fusion dictatorship?

You want to discuss how this series is ruled, heres your chance. People have thrown opinions in and fusion have listerned to the point where they're asking for the team leaders to help make a decision. Making the accusations public and claiming fusion are just cheating isnt the way to go about it, which is why it was all deleted and its being done in private, and if you feel fusion will fix it so whatever everyones opinion is it goes their way then thats pretty sad, im sure if nobody objected they could give each teams verdict as to what to do, and any lies could easily be corrected just so you could sleep at night knowing the bott series is being fairly governed.
