Wow, what a useful little program. Works very well.

Meccano FTW! After a mates son broke his little kit I felt compelled to re-design the dirt buggy into some sort of transport vehicle with a tilting rocket on the back last week. For some reason the kid was facinated by it Flexible axle mounts (i.e. suspension), front scoup, exhaust, 3 way tilt mount for the rocket, spent far too long fiddling with that.

Nice to know I'm not the only one who drifts trollys, when I used to work at Tesco, one day tidying the carpark up we had dozens roped together, took 3 people to drift them around the carpark Got some funny looks as cars gave way, can't think why.

Little 3.5 wind motors wouldn't be much good for speed runs - a higher wind means you can run more voltage to achieve the same RPM (shouldn't run most brushless motors past 65,000RPM, with ~40,000RPM being the most efficient spot for 2 pole motors), giving more available power, so you can gear better.

I have a little project car I've thought of doing some speed runs with. Its a nitro RC10GT converted to electric using my own custom parts, with a 540-L brushless motor thrown in. The special battery mounts allow upto 12 cells flat on the chassis, or 16 layered. Thats a LOT of power for a 3KG truck. Enough to backflip at 40mph if your not careful. In theory with the correct setup it has the power for 80-90mph.

RHD in LFS..because its what I'm used to IRL.

In most other games/sims though, I've grown used to LHD, doesn't particually bother me, I'm not really any slower. Not aware of any way to change it to RHD in ISI titles or rF so just got used to it.

Its hard to retrive a password for an account, but easy to replace it. Temporary access could be gained in a matter of mins by booting off a Linux live-cd (or a Windows PE-based one), and resetting the password for the administrator account. There even exists downloadable live-cd's designed specifically for this for NT OS's.

Downloaded at a steady 200kb/s, not bad.

Definately not bad for a freebie, enough has already been said about its physics, but I find them acceptable, definately good enough to have some fun times with. Does feel a lot like the new Race demo, which isn't a bad thing IMO. Feedback isn't anywhere near the level of LFS though, doesn't really tell you anything when the tyres start slipping.

deggis, thanks for the post on how to turn the auto-clutch off

XFG doesn't seem too unrealistic. I have a 106 1.4 which puts out 75bhp. The multiport version of my engine from Pug outs out almost 100bhp, and revs higher. I'm not aware of many other road-designed 1.4's with over 100bhp though, Rover K-series maybe?

I have a bus card I use for getting about, the bus service here isn't too bad apart from the complete lack of legroom in most of the seats (being 6ft 5 doesn't help). Only takes 10 mins to get to the city centre. Rarely have a problem with the driver, although I do get annoyed when I have to repeat where I'm going 4 times because the driver doesn't know more than 5 words of english.

I do have a car on the drive, but its in peices while I change the head gasket, once its running I'm not sure I'll renew the bus card.

Quote from Bladerunner :don't bother RTS..the 'leaked' 1.66 IS the official patch!!!!
That's what everybody is so upset about..we were told last week that patch 1.66 may damage your installation, and it must not be used!!!

Thanks for the info, saves me a download Maybe they hadn't finished testing last week when it was leaked, hence the mis-information. The code must have gone gold a week or two ago.

Not downloaded the offical patch yet, but am running the leaked 1.66, and can't complain. Its sorted the couple of bugs that nagged me, and the game seems to work online a bit better now. See random people racing about a lot more often. Performance is acceptable too, no stuttering.

Cannot reproduce this either, just tried a few times.

Quote from psy00 :
Do this fast without wait to much thru the clicks :

Load LFS ,go multiplayer then display list of games (in window mode), after it finish the list i press Back and then back again ... i get a crash to desktop without any message...

Small bug..few secs after the race ended, I had the message:

"CLOSED then RESUMED"

displayed in the chat. No-one else in the server had it, and it doesn't show in the mpr either. I've attached the mpr anyway, incase it has anything useful.

Bug I don't see mentioned yet.. start LFS in full screen, it goes to window'd mode on the server list, click to join a server as usual, and while its loading the track etc (still window'd), go and do stuff in another window. When LFS finishes loading & connecting it takes over full screen, but doesn't have focus, have to alt-tab to gain control. Easy to reproduce. Works also if you switch back to LFS while its connecting to check the status, and click away again.

Why do people keep banging on about it, its been done to death. If you want to drift, go ahead and do it, no-ones stopping you or flaming you for it, there's dedicated servers for it. On a solid surface getting the tyres loose is rarely faster as AndroidXP so diplomatically put it, so why start a thread to argue the point?

Personally I'll pop onto a drift server once in a while because its a bit of fun, like banger racing servers, but I don't go there with the expectation of going fast, setting new records or anything close to racing.

I've seen XRT's on the bug servers lapping faster than I've ever seen an RB4 lap..still a bit early to see which cars the fastest, but your probably right, its not the FXO anymore.

Change is a good thing, having to relearn how to drive a car slightly, having closer competition between the class of cars..who cares if the FXO isn't the fastest anymore, its made the racing a LOT more fun now all 3 cars are being driven.

If you can lap the FXO at a 1.24.5 pace on BL1, clearly its not that much slower, laptimes on the bug test server rarely go below that level.

In my testing over the last few days, I've found the RB4 fastest personally, but have lost many many races to XRT's running better laptimes.

I wouldn't say the RB4's any faster than the XRT, you have to really work to be competitive still. FXO's are easy to pass now though, because only noobs seem to drive them now

Being able to skin that area, would definately improve the look of the cockpits a lot.

Any chance you could do a variation that has the brake lights a bit brighter looking? Espically hard to see on RB4/FXO.

Its still a simulator, even if it's (possibly) a poor one. Hope its good though, I enjoyed the 1st one, about the best compromise you can hope for with realism/arcade on a console IMO.

Indeed, the full grid of good racers at BL1 with the TBOs is nice.

I used to use a MS keyboard with all the media controls, worked perfectly fine in Winamp and the like.

Using a G15 at the min though, nice media controls, comes up with the artist/trackname on the lcd screen as well

Clutch in, shifter in 1st, throttle sufficently to keep the revs high but before red-line, just before the lights go green 100% throttle, not soon enough for it to get to the rev limiter though. As of the latest test patch its a case of reacting to the green light now, as opposed to predicting it.

@ajp71: Bit OT, but care to name any rF mods that have belivable physics? Of the few I tried, the lupo mod was the only one I got on with.
