Thats a great pic ImudilaSkyline

It's interesting because its so rare and can help us learn stuff
like the distance to Venus and the sun (not easy to measure with a tape measure) and more recently helps to calibrate distant planet hunter scopes like Kepler and Spitzer although I think because they are so sensitive they used the Moon to reflect the light from the solar transit.

Just got back from my trip to the coast to see the transit.
Crashgate was right, was total wash out, the only transit I saw was my van

There are some great photos on the web and the NASA feed was good to watch.
Never mind, off to work now!

Who will be watching the transit of Venus

Just wondering who will be watching the upcoming transit of Venus?

http://www.space.com/16003-ven ... -skywatching-preview.html

it wont happen again until the year 2117!

Here in the UK I will be getting up at silly o click tomorrow morning to head down to the coast to view the last hour of transit from sunrise through a special solar telescope and hopefully get some images too.

Just a word of warning...
NEVER LOOK DIRECTLY AT THE SUN AND NEVER VIEW THE SUN THROUGH BINOCULARS OR A TELESCOPE WITHOUT THE PROPER EQUIPMENT IT WILL BLIND YOU BEFORE YOU EVEN KNOW IT!

The chorus sounds like it could be Dido's "Here with me" I'm not 100% though.

No more negative contributions to this forum from the OP would make me happy.

Good on you for your kind donations to some demo users who have because of you upgraded to a higher license level, but please say some positive words now and then, it might make life a little better all round

Hi, maybe while you are looking for stuff to download try to find a guide on "where should I post off topic posts in a racing simulator forum?"

Try heading to the off topic part of the forum next time...

Quote from matijapkc :I think the AI can't drive in windy conditions yet (except if you enable it when you are already on the track).

Of course I wasn't thinking I haven't played the AI for some time

Quote from Draconious :Lately my dad and myself gave up trying to keep our old PCs running and we both got new lap tops. Which are almost identical, slight variance. One is a A8-3500 one is an A8-3510, everything else that matters is the same.

I tested them each offline, running LFS, with just a single AI F1, and no players, running around the track on their own... Since they were both doing it at the same time I decided to start the races at the same time.

The red,and green lights triggered at the same time, and the F1 started to move at the same time. The entire first lap was almost identical on each PC, as was the time on both PCs. About 3/4 of the way through the second lap, one of the PCs was a few seconds ahead on the clock, then by the end of the 3rd lap it was almost 2 minutes ahead, and the F1 on this PC was WAY ahead of the other PC. A the race continued the second PC just kept getting further ahead.

Is this why some people are called a cheater? because their PC is just faster than the server?

Assuming the laptops RTC clocks check out, There are many things that could effect the speed of the AI's driving, sometimes they just get things a bit wrong and some AI's are just faster than others (they also learn and get better over time)
Maybe wind was enabled on one PC and not on the other?

Have you tried to start a private server and allow each laptop to enter a single AI to drive in a race together to see if there is any on-line difference IIRC the server takes care of small differences in clients clocks and works it all out so its totally fair (level playing field so to speak) try pressing shift+F8 on each PC to see network debug info.

I too am curious to see any results from this.

Genuinely shocked to read this tragic news.

Joining the spectators was introduced by "OvalJunkies" IIRC as a rule on just their server, but I think since then its become more common overall, lets face it, its not realistic and race drivers really need to learn what yellow flag means.
For me when I see a yellow I don't always lift, but I will check the minimap for stationary cars ahead and be ready and expect to slow/break for stopped or turned around cars.
However to me the more important rule is "no overtaking under yellow flag" it seems whenever I go online (not that often lately I know) people can't wait to overtake yellow flag or not, it seems a pile up is just a good excuse to gain a few extra places regardless of flags, shocking!

TVE the 2 points you made in the 1st post, I would have done exactly the same.

Hi Micromental
I've read most of this thread and your other thread "lfs wont start"
May I ask what driver you have installed for your GFX adaptor?
you are still using the HD2600 right? does it pass all the direct X tests? (run dxdiag)
When you say you are doing a fresh install are you reinstalling LFS from a local file or re-downloading it every time?

Just some thoughts.

Good luck

Quote from Tox Laximus :OMG how long have you people been playing and never noticed every multiplayer game is jerky.

The servers (the online games you join) send data to clients (that your pc when its connected to a server) at a maximum 6 times a second, even if you had alienware it would still look jerky (laggy).

My pc (Big Ernie) can run the the video at well over 100fps, but I sync the display so its running 60fps as anything more is a waste of electricity and hardware.

I've been playing for many years and my LFS runs smooth as silk most of the time.

Just because the online data is sent/received at 6 or less PPS doesn't mean that the cars are drawn at 6fps, LFS just used that data to correctly position the cars at those intervals, when not receiving data LFS predicts where the cars should be and should provide a smooth view especially with the closer cars.

Vsync does not save as much electricity as you might think

I suggest reading/searching/posting your problem in the tech support section of this forum and maybe you will find a solution.

Maybe you could turn off your P2P when you play online?

Good luck.

Sj go into single player and change your car to something standard like XFG then try to reconnect with any host, but just before you do press shift+F8 (network debug) this should display more info and hopefully lead to a conclusion

I think Gav is probably right with modified exe or downloaded vob or dds files

good luck

SD.

BTW shift+F8 toggles net debug on and off..
