As a developer/programer you must understand the phrase "crunch-time" when the powers that be (marketing heads etc) come down hard on the people actually doing the work to speed up development in time for a set release date, I know big companys like to set these dates and employed programmers have to put in hard days with longer and longer hours to rush things out, how many big games get released early?
This is IMO a big part of why the 3 Devs here started LFS, to use their talents as programmers/designers at home and at their own pace, without anyone berating them all the time for updates or release dates, they get to work when they feel like it, and knock off when they want, call it flexitime if you like. But they do it because they enjoy it or at least believe in the dream.
I happen to agree and support this lifestyle and my own small bussiness will never be in the FTSE100 but it allows me to spend more time with my family and IMO live a happier and more fulfilled life as a result.
I will gladly pay for any updates to lfs when they become available and even though I don't know Scawen & co personally I believe the result of their hard work over the last 8 or 9 years and more importantly the quality compared to the competition bring me to conclude that Scawen knows what he's doing and always delivers "top notch" output.
We all want the same thing, even the devs want to give us what we want
I totally understand people asking for updates and content, and feel their frustration, but I don't think chastising the devs about development speed or complaining that "eric is doing nothing" or any of the negative comments on here will help anybody.
LFS is like a hand made car like maybe a Morgan, you can phone them up and demand a new +8 but you wont get it until they make it and finish the other orders, "its done when its done".
Thanks for the info Scawen, don't change for anyone
Maybe in the universe....
Essentially everything is made in and from stars (H + He) However the most abundant substance on/in the Earth is Iron, and the most abundant gas is Nitrogen.
The H Fuel cell is a good invention but I think its pretty limited in a portable capacity.
As for the generation of mass power nuclear power stations are looking like the best option until either solar can be more efficent or the work going on with Helium-3 and 7 or other "future" fusion based solutions become a reality.
I agree with 1 and 2 IIRC any nuclear blasts causes ozone to be depleted massively with an output of something like 4 or 5,000 tons of Nitric oxide produced for every megaton of explosive power, thats why all the testing was moved underground.
As for the Asteroid or comet impact being least likely, I don't think its as unlikley as most people think, with some things wizzing around the sun at crazy fast speeds and new solar system objects descovered all the time its bound to happen at some point, maybe even in our lifetime.
Isn't our planet supposed to be overdue a huge volcanic event?
When you stop to think about how insignificant we are in the global machine its understandable how alot of people just don't seem to care about saving energy, living greener, eating healthy or even not littering (man that winds me up seeing people throwing Mcdonalds bags out of their cars ) global warming natural or man made I'm sure our oil rich, gas guzzling, junk food eating, TV watching, lfs playing lifestyle is acting as a catalist.
As for the music scene the charts have been full of rubbish for years But then I am officially an oldie isint it all cyclic anyway
Oh dear Rich that is indeed the biggest of faux pas
Astronomy = scientific observing and working with facts in the cosmos.
Astrology = a large, steaming pile of excrement concocted for and by fools.
I have to agree that the stargazing live shows were great to see and hopefully the BBC will run another event later in the year. Maybe with some luck the weather will be better.
its still cloudy here in Kent, but set to clear after midnight and stay clear for the morning, if your out camping and up after midnight you might see some meteors as theres a shower on with a radiant near Bootes, with no moon tonight and up to 100 per hour look to the north, your bound to see some
I've also looked into getting a trial subscription of Iracing but different deals come and go
I don't find myself with too much free time for online racing but when I do I like to race LFS.
Its the quick pick up racing I like, fire up lfs and within 30 secs you can be in a server and ontrack.
I am considering getting back into regular league racing with LFS also as the public servers are quieter than they use to be, probably due to so many lfs'ers moving to Iracing
Please post your thoughts on the G27 when you get it and let us know if you have any problems setting it all up, if its as good as the 25 has been for me it should give you years of reliable service.
Just a heads up to everyone or at least everyone in the UK
There will be a partial solar eclipse tomorrow morning as the sun rises, even if its foggy there is still a chance to see a crescent sun, sunrise is about 8am and the moon will leave the disc of the sun at around 9am.
Those in the south and east of the UK should get a better view As always be very very careful when observing or photographing the sun.
Here's a preview from "stellarium"
If that is the case you know RR might do beter over at the Iracing forums
I mean it seems to me they would be more likely to have "disposable income" to spend on things like that.
On the other hand some might be so hard up after spending all their xmas money on new cars and tracks who knows
If its really the feeling of racing a real car you want? I would suggest you book a test in one of the motion simulators like the force dynamics 301 or 401, these motion simulators are the only real way of feeling some of the G-forces that you will get IRL.
I don't know about you but I would rather have one of these than something static and whilst the VRS-01 (or any other cockpit) might look OK it gives you zero feedback
You have not mentioned what type of computer you are using.
laptop? desktop? full specs might help
Wireless or wired internet? dial up or cable?
Installed any new HW or SW ?
does this happen in singleplayer offline mode as well as online multiplayer mode?
do you have alot of things running in the background/taskbar?
if you press Ctrl+Alt+Delete taskmanager will start, click the processes tab and see how many you have?
A cockpit type setup is fine but would be one of the last things for a beginner to consider purchasing, I think a wheel bolted to a desk is the most popular amoungst this community.
To be honest its not so much about what you sit in but more about the feedback you can get from your equipment to make you feel more imersed in the sim or enhance the realism.
Some basic things that for any sim I believe help to do that are, in order of importance..
Good force feedback wheel. [I use logitech G25]
Good PC and monitor capable of hi res, high FPS display (triple head could be a bonus, but too expensive and too large for me) [I use WC PC and 24" dell @1920X1200]
Good headphones, its amazing how much feedback you get from the ears
Comfortable seating position, depending on the size and FOV of your display/s you need to be the right distance from your display and obviously the wheel and pedals need to feel right. a cockpit or sim seat type setup at least keeps the wheel, pedals and display/s always at the same distance from each other.
RocketRace, what sims do you play and what wheels have you tried so far?
Thanks Scawen/Devs for the "report" very interesting reading.
IMO LFS is already one of the best sims out there, I have played many others with the exception of Iracing and have found LFS to be the easyest to install and use, and the best physics/FF feel of the lot.
I know many long time LFS racers that have moved to Iracing for the content and constant development and I think thats fine, but I agree that 90% of them will upgrade thier LFS account to S3 or whatever when it is released.
I havn't tried Iracing because even though someone has pointed out that for £24 you can theroetically get more than 1 car and 1 track in Iracing, once you have paid for even the basic content, if you wish to keep playing it, then the cost becomes much more as each month/year passes so I won't try to comapre LFS and Iracing on cost, as for me its the subcription based or "pay to play" payment system that I strongly dislike.
I don't agree with people who say that the Devs owe us or promised us updates, I feel sure that Scawen himself wants to release the next patch as soon as he can, but as its not ready he can't, not that hard to grasp really.
Some things take time, sometimes longer than expected, and only time will tell if it will be worth the wait.
all this has been posted here countless times already over the last few years.
Its ready when.... yes you guessed it "when its ready"
To Nick and other demo players who want promises or updates it really is worth thinking about S2 as all the cars differ and the tracks are varied there is even an oval with some servers dedicated to just oval racing, a single payment and its yours to use for life
I would reccomend LFS to anyone, I wouldn't reccomend visiting this forum as spam and childish crap has become almost ubiquitous and thats the real shame.
I wonder what % of players are using this older build?
and if that % shows up on the "number of players online" stats?
The only time I've played an older than the most up to date patch is when the public testing is open, and during most of that time its the latest patch thats the most interesting.
I can assure you the "electricity" inside PCs go no faster or slower than anywhere else in the universe actual electrons are another matter being that one can exist in 2 places at the same time and not exist at all
This thread has gone so far off topic and has been hanging around sooo long....
.. Maybe Santa will bring some public test patch, who knows
Although its nice to be able to access higher res images, there should be a rule like on other forums (most I use allow 800 or 1024pix max on longest edge with a file size under 300 or 500k)
And I'm with Garph on quoting image posts, its very easy to take out the pics when quoting and with large images like those above (slow to load for some) silly quote posts with just a smiley will get a spam report from me also
