How do you know he really is on a public road.... its probably just a car park, so dark I can't see where though, it might not even be him... or a mercedes....

i'm pretty sure its just him running round a dark room with two white torches and two red leds making the noises with his mouth....

They sell F1 brake discs on ebay in the form of a novel clock, someone who has more money than i do buy one and take some close ups of the substance please....

edit:

ok so no clocks on atm, but I found this:

Looking at it... I might even get a nice rear wing from their BMW, for my BMW... and maybe a nose cone to keep balanced handling... I'm going to win all teh street races now!

No racing series would allow that, the noise restrictions are far to stringent. D1 would have to be as popular as F1 before that would happen!

Noise doesn't make you faster.

I find the problem to be a lack of concequence.

If I'm racing on track, it's a bloody rare opportunity, so I'm damn sure I'm careful not to wipe myself out and thus miss out on enjoyable racing. I also am painfully aware of the financial penalty of making mistakes.

LFS on the other hand, the next race is only 10 laps away.

My own solution to the problem would be to limit racers on my server to one car per day, and one set of tyres per 3 races. But this comes without thousands of issues of its own - getting wrecked by someone who doesn't give a damn would result in no opportunity for repair etc.

thankfully it isn't possible, so I don't have to make that choice yet.

Correct operating temperature is right.... if you've never driven a car with these things on, you'll be in for a nasty suprise if you use em cold!

I find running LFS with winamp open results in ****ING HUGE CRASH symptoms.

As far as I'm aware, most racing series run very specific single wheel homogininasdoniasdflkj....

All the freaking wheels are the same.

(ok so perhaps we need wheels that look more like real competition wheels to start with, but you get the idea.)

I want automatic tranmission simulations in LFS for two reasons.

The first - so people who don't bother to shift manually (heel toe and all that includes) get the dis-advantage they so rightly deserve for being lazy.

The second - racing automatic cars would prove an interesting challenge in say an all American V8 (think dodge challenger) racers cup. I know they're terrible cars, but they look like a lot of fun, and as long as everyone has terrible cars, the race is still fair and interesting!

woo top gear in 15 minutes! I can stop watching STCC re-runs(which are great, otherwise I wouldn't choose to watch them) and watch new carcomedy!

one for the road!

lol - parental guidance.

There *are* perfectly good LX servers, not, "There is".

I look forward to driving cars in LFS with engines that have personality. The amount of complexity of engine modelling shown here, which I believe is possible, given the quality of the tyre model, will be great.

At the moment I find LFS's engines a bit too smooth, and linear, and generally artificial. I would imagine with the complexity of the engine sound simulation, and accurate modelling of the engine itself, we will find all sort of behaviours emerge that are hard coded in other games, like a nice burble on the over-run of cars with carbs, and if they can be bothered to model exhaust temperatures and such, backfires and other immersive behaviours, like a little black smoke from an engine that is too hot (don't drive a suzuki bandit 600 hard in a country which is at 40 degrees c! the radiator is far too small!).

I can't wait for the first race I see where the guy in first place blows a turbo flat shifting infront, causing the guy in second to spin out from all the oil deposited on the track, leaving me, tactically in third place, to take all the glory, with non of the effort.... brilliant

Apex later,

that is to say go in wider and slower to get on the power sooner, on the corner exit you will find you have more room. Less steering lock, smoother steering movements, and smooth out your brake throttle and throttle brake transitions to keep the rear stable.

That cock-pit picture gives me a headache, I want to look at the corner apex up ahead, but only the dash display section is in focus, ugh!

I'm impressed there was up to 11 broken wheels roling down the track in a single frame...

Engine mounts that are too spongy can excacerbate(sp) this as the extensive drivetrain flex adds to the oscillating traction available to a given tire.

I hope drivetrain flex is simulated in LFS at some point, I also wish my car flexed the same amount the XFR does. (none.)

Last time I checked the only serious factor regarding how much horsepower you get from the engine for any given fuel/air ratio and ignition mapping is how much cash you spend sorting it out.

edit: £5 on tristan, because he's british.
