Nascar Clash @ LA Memorial Coliseum

This is a low effort layout, I have no further plans to improve this layout. However I do think it is very close in size, width and proportion to the real thing.

If anyone watches the silly Nascar race this weekend and wants to try it for themselves ... this exists. Complete with all the checkpoints for functional lap timing and racing. 20 grid slots in the expected location, and another 20 spawn points just outside the track if you are mad enough to try and race with 40 people here. 10 pit box's in the infield.

if anyone wishes to use this on their server, or modify / improve this layout ... feel free to do so.

Soccer balls don't have an engine. While it definitely sounds like a fun challenge to work as a team to get as many laps with a ball as possible, I'd rather leave it to TopGear/GrandTour/... to organise such am event. Maybe such an event would also be something for [TC] & co.

While there may be an audience for soccer balls or for busses (or even heavy MRTs), I'd like to organise something more based on popular real life racing series, be it grassroots racing such as in the Nürburgring Endurance Series or the Creventic 24 Hour Series or more professional series. Yet I am aware we have more freedom to realise ideas that would not be possible in real life due to safety concerns, infrastructure or resources. In fact the Open Endurance Cup was inspired by the iRacing Spirit of VLN series which was in turn inspired by the real life VLN Langstreckenmeisterschaft/Nürburgring Endurance Series.

Quote :Day and night cycle

Sadly, that is out of my control. While it is something I eagerly wait to get my hands on, it is currently no option.

Quote :i would, but my eyes protest, when i stare at the screen for too long. i limit myself on sprint races

Quote :Some historic cars enduraces would be nice.

Quote :[There is work] on making GPL65 and P126 equal on pace, so if you want to try mods that are meant to go together, this would be your option. Can only speak for the GPL65, but P126 has very close stats, so surely not too much different. They can probably go over 2 hours before having to pit - at the Grand Prix of Aston (with GPL65) we went 1h45m easily with no stops. So 3h race would be definitely a 1-stopper. Speaking of popularity/interest, there was almost a full grid (36 cars iirc) despite the race being anounced less than a day in advance.

Quite honestly, historic cars were not something I had on my mind, but I am open to consider them.

Quote :Was waiting for OEC when Falke said it going to have TBO class and LRF if I remember correctly

Quote :LXs in multiclass

Indeed that was the original plan and still a plan I fancy a lot. Trying to do the BOP for LRF is tricky enough, as the season before proved. At the end of the day the three cars are very different to one another as the RAC and LX6 are light weight sports cars whereas the FZ5 is a sports car that very well fits into production car categories at the Nürburgring. While the BOP based on minimum pit stop times worked as a proof of concept, that system has not matured enough. Simplifying the class structure to just the LX would allow S2 (or even S1) licensed drivers to compete and would eradicate the need for a BOP or a complex class structure.

Quote :Aston mega-schiefe track and P1 + GTE classes!

Quote :sbtv prototype driver reporting for duty

Quote :endurance would be great yeah whit modern gt cars ,,Big grin''

Quote :

Aston Megaschleife is an unknown to me. With Aston Grand Prix and Aston Historic there are already two long variants at the Aston Autodrome venue Confused. An open configuration or a layout also needs to be sensible. If the idea is to recreate LeMans or the Nürburgring Nordschleife with layouts, this is simply not possible with the tools at hand.

I am not aware there are currently any P1 (assuming LMP1) in development, especially the hybrid nature of these cars in recent iterations of the rules prevents any faithful adaptation of modern LMP1. What we have is at least one published LMP2 and another older one in development, as far as I know. I am also unaware of GTE/GTLM cars as such but there are, as pointed out, many GT cars as well as the LFS GTR cars to create a Grand Touring category underneath a prototypes. A Grand Touring category as such I would consider to be "modern" as well. This is a class strucutre with a lot of potential as it is similar to the virtual LeMans series by the ACO in rFactor 2 among others, if it is suitable for the core-idea of OEC is another issue.

Balance of performance is, no doubt, the most crutial part of any class definition.

Quote :Doing BOP for mods will be tricky, especially if mod creators decide to tweak them during the buildup. We'd need control over those cars for this series. Besides, choosing appropriate cars is still tricky right now. For standard LFS cars, I think we could do GT2 and NGT, GTi and TBO, LX4 and LX6, FOX and FO8 etc. Keeping classes simple would help with promotion and uptake I reckon. And to prevent us from having small grids, we still need to pick popular combinations.

Basically this sums up many of the thoughts I share. The greatest problem for the use of mods in league racing might be the necessary cooperation between mod creators, teams and organisers and something that has not been thought to the end for now. The upload of league-specific mods may be an option, yet it is something that is not really intended by the mod system as far as I understand it.

I am very happy about those comments, to see that people intend to return to a series, that is run as irregularly the OEC is. Smile I hope I can provide something you like in the end.

That is the RWD thing ! You need to understand what is going on when slamming the throttle. With a 4WD there is less power overall on front and rear axle, so it is easier regarding this aspect. On a FWD, if you are putting too much effort on the driving wheels, you will simply go straight, and so releasing the throttle calm down the thing ... On a RWD when cornering, if you :
- release suddenly the throttle you brake you rear wheel doing a kind of handbrake kick
- put too much throttle and you can spin them, making the car to slide from the rear
=> in both cases you may loose the control of the car (or at least the rear wheels).
So it requires some controls and practice to make it right, but for having driven RWD in real life for lots of years now, I can tell you they can be the most satisfying experience in the end Smile .
In LFS, due to some flaws in the physics, it is a bit difficult to feel very comfortable quickly with RWD compare to FWD/4WD vehicles, but do not give up and practice, you may enjoy ! (keyboard is not the best possible experience of course, but anyway ... )

As NumberTwo suggests, a true pick up racing is kinda dead in LFS (except for demo maybe).
But that is not necessarily a bad thing, as the racing community is now more focused on on time-specific pick up racing (weekly events like RTFR, GTi Thursday, FOX Friday, FBM Saturday,...) or serious championship events (BF1 League, E-Challenge, GT2/TBO Challenge, Layout Racing League,...)

The league racing is now better than ever, but it apparently comes at the cost of reduced "random racing" activity...

I understand why you're upset.

Please try to see it from the reviewers point of view though. In the beginning, there was very little guidance for reviewers to go by. As we created the rules, we found out some model sources don't allow use in LFS according to their terms. As we learned how to proceed, we slowly changed the rules on the go. I understand that is confusing for someone with no insight.

I went through all real life based mods today and there is absolute minimum of those that are problematic. 95% of mods already are ok with the rules, so there's no need for any of them to be retrospectively removed.

Please do mind that the mod submission guidelines state though:
...Any mod can be deleted for any reason in future, including but not limited to:
...
8.5 Breaches guidelines or rules after they are adjusted at a later time.

So yes, LFS mods may and will be checked at later time, as the guidelines state.

Not really a support question, but...

... should any mod that's submitted only be approved if supplied with a skin template? Blank or otherwise.

I spent a lot of time doing a skin for a bus, and then after using this skin for a while, next time I chose same bus, the bus downloaded as a newer version, and my skin was all wrong. One side became roof, and other side was upside down.

Sure, some miss this feature, but in view of the facts, this is an absolutely understandable development.

RTFR and RTFR XL 2022 main info - WCL sponsorship and Sim Broadcasts livestream
Eclipsed

Hello,racers!

After 3 years of successful sponsorship, team World Class Lions are willing to keep their support and offers money prizes for RTFR and RTFR XL also in year 2022! There will be few minor changes, but generally speaking things won't change much - best drivers will receive nice bonuses for their efforts. Full details can be found in Sponsorship document.

For season standings the same points system will be used as in the evergoing rating system - for full details hower mousepointer over rating sheet's green colored title bar, here are the links to both spreadsheets: RTFR and RTFR XL.

Now about the changes:

* Division in 2 seasons in RTFR - the shorter event will now have two 10-round seasons in 2022,first will start with 1st event of the year and after summer break the 2nd season will start on 16th august and last until the december. Each season will have it's own standings and winners. The RTFR races between these 2 seasons will count as non-championship - just like in old times,we'll be racing just for fun and overall achievements.

* Best 10 of 12 rounds count towards RTFR XL - the longer event is focused on endurance and therefor will last whole year, but there is a releaf for those being out on vacation at some point as only best 10 points scores will count to season total, just like in 1st year of sponsored championship.

* Removal of teams championship in RTFR - last season had a new awards list for best teams which unfortunatelly wasn't a very intriguing one. Not that we want to complain about someone, but the competition for table lead in this championship was rather non-existant with domination of a single team, while remaining teams were spreading out and had very few positions changes through the whole season.

* Points system update for RTFR - generally the system won't change, only the amount of points and also count of multiple points scorers will be increased as during the previous season there were way too many 1-point earners. Previous system awarded 1st place with 10 points,2nd with 9 points ... 9th with 2 points and 10th and below with 1 point (extra point for each position with every 3 drivers more starting). Now the amount will be increased to 20 points for 1st place,19 for 2nd ... 2 for 19th place and 1 for 20th and below, while keeping the extra points system also alive - 23 race starters will mean 21 points for winner etc. Qualifying and fastest lap points will not be changed, therefor will have a bit smaller effect on totals. RTFR XL points system will not change as it has it's own attendance change adaption system.

* Mods will also be raced in RTFR - with the latest patch we will also follow the flow and include user created cars in our races, mixing slowly in the list of already well used LFS standard cars. A spreadsheet "RGE approved mods" has been created to keep track of cars that can be used in our events. With time more mods will be tested and more of them will receive green light and full approval and if some modders will try to make fools out of us - they'll will be banned from our events. Currently we'll mix mods in to be featured in every 2nd to 4th normal RTFR.

* Mods can be selected for racing in RTFR XL - besides the winner's glory, the XL version has always given the winner the chance to decide combination for next race. From now on also mods will be available for selection, but they will also have to yield to same selection rules (used car cannot be selected in next 4 races and the class - in next 2 races),while mods in general cannot be selected in 2 following races. The spreadsheet "RGE approved mods" has already listed all mods that from first glance are acceptable and all have received class rating to make clear what's not available if a class is locked out.

The RTFR season will start on 4th january and will keep the usual semi-weekly schedule for 26 total events (middle 6 - non-championship),while 1st RTFR XL of this year will take place on 25th january and happen every 4 weeks except there will be 6 weeks break between november and december races. Both events have been entered into lfs.net racing calendar, where the combos will be updated as soon as possible - the combo for first RTFR will be posted this sunday, while the combo for first RTFR XL has yet to be subbmitted (at time of this post) by the winner of previous race. Info about each event will be posted in this forum subsection as it was always done previously in the information threads.

In the 2021 Sim Broadcasts streamed RTFR and RTFR XL races with full commentary and boosted the attendance to full servers with their promotion. This year won't be much different - the team has agreed to livestream the "championship" races at their availability and keep the promotion of this event alive. As before the livestream will focus on the action during the race, starting their broadcast before it with their pre-race information.

Additionally you can visit SimBroadcasts.tv for their full streaming schedule and contact,or their lfs.net forum thread for local updates.
