Quote from viper-2007 :Is a dfp any good as a g25 as they are much cheaper

DFP is an excellent choice, the force feedback on it is almost on par with the G25.

Wow, that looks almost like a broadcast of a real race!!! Was this done live? Holy shit! Now, I used to think... yeah, LFS is a sim and all, but after the dust clears, it IS only a videogame...

Well, looks like I didn't just miss the "seriousness" by a mile, but rather, in a different galaxy all together!

If you want to try seriousness, start practicing for the 24 hours at Kyoto. That was something else to participate in. I am aiming to to put together 4-5 people and race an XFG.

Quote from Cue-Ball :While I do believe that there is something fundamentally wrong with the current clutch modeling, I really don't see how people are having so much trouble with this. I raced last night and was able to finish 33 laps around Westhill and 25 laps around South City Classic in road cars with H-shifters. In both cases I finished the race with barely any heat at all in the clutch.

I honestly don't know how or why people are having such trouble with clutch overheating. Seriously - if you can't finish a race without burning up the clutch, even with the currently flawed modeling, you need to take a good hard look at your driving style.

Summed up what I believe. Really now; I thought it was the Americans that cannot grasp the concept of a three pedal car.

Either that, or the majority of players are well under the age of 18, and thus never driven in real life.

Quote from BrandonAGr :No, currently you can use it while online.

....and I found that every braking point is the same one I use already, but anyone who has been stuck behind me knows I am always early on the brakes.

But, it IS nice to use on seldom used tracks, where you might forget the line.

I was at AS3 to practice with the LX6. Went to options screen, adjusted FOV, and the engine sound disappeared, but not the in game music. Exited, tried again and it worked. Tryed to re create it, no such luck. Using X30.

If people want to experiment with the FOV in Live For Speed, and you have a SLR type camera, a 50mm setting is as close to you can get to replicating a humans FOV.

Quote from JTbo :It does not matter if they are cruisers, racers, drifters whatever, thay are allowed to be disappointed and also let that out, as long as they do that in proper places

Fair point. But I tell you what, I challenge you to one week of not using the speedo at all when racing. Trust your instincts, you may be suprised....

Quote from JohnPenn :First of all I've not tried the patch yet, but regarding the loss of Digital speedo, I admit I have become addicted to it lately, using it as a benchmark or guide for lap times,I,m so glad I can now go cold turkey
The car Tell's you when you get a corner right That for me is what makes LFS so special, Maybe now I will watch the track more, think about my line more, instead of having to get XXMPH through t1

I think this change is a good move in the long term for LFS.

You nailed it right on the head there! The only time I bother to look at the speedo is when I leave the pit lane in non speed limited cars. I do not think some will want to admit this, but I think the vast majority of the people disappointed are the cruise dwellers.

Quote from kaynd :Most of us didn’t say that we have problems in normal shifting, but that in general the clutch overheats excessively fast… and you can understand that after you repeat some slow starts with mid high revs…

I should have been more explicit; I meant reading all the various posts and threads relating to this.

So yesterday, I drove 20 laps on Blackwood with the FZR, manual clutch setting, racing against the AI, and my clutch "wear" was maybe...10%?

I will just come out and say it: do some you really know how to shift properly? Sorry to come across as a jerk, but I was on racing against the AI and I never once had a problem with slippage.

Quote from Racer556 :I personally like it, specially on SO, but it's anyones choice

Setting it to .75 seems to look more natural.

I have driven over the apex "bumps" at full speed at real racetrack, and I can attest they rattle your whole body.

Quote from Scawen :Yes, as in real life you should pull on the gear shifter and while still pulling, momentarily lift your foot off the throttle - the car will change gear quite instantly.

Ahhh! Good to know, and good that you have personal experience!

Quote from Scawen :
None will be released in Patch Y but they will be released as soon as possible. They are a high priority, along with certain other parts of my work that need to be updated so finally we'll be able to remove the ALPHA tag. These things just take a lot of time as the standard is higher now.

I think a lot of people who frequent this board need to read the above quote over and over and over and over until their eyes hurt.

Any thoughts on having a North American hub for distribution?

Or conversely, would you like to speak to me on such ideas?
Wow!

Quote from thisnameistaken :As I understand it: The US dollar has traditionally been stockpiled by a lot of countries' central banks, and used as the currency for trading in most large markets (oil, for example, is traded in US dollars). But recently with changing interest rates, the Euro has started to look like a better investment and so a lot of dollar holdings have been released as banks and other large institutions sell their dollars and buy into Euros. This floods the market with dollars - more than anyone wants to buy - and so the value of the dollar drops.

This sounds bad for the USA - and it arguably is, because it will mean a rise in inflation - but it's bad for anyone who trades with the USA too, because americans don't want to buy our exports because the prices are too high (Exhibit A: Live for Speed). Meanwhile American exports should see a big boost from the decline in the dollar, as American products present better value to overseas buyers.

Bleh. I really don't get half of this myself - the consequences of big shifts in the money markets are too huge for ignorant people like myself to understand. But that's the basics of it.

Someone gets big points for understanding economics. And for Blackout saying it will be a rough year for the US, you are mistaken. With the exception of the 1930's, the US has never been in a recession cycle during a campaign year.

If anything, people who's countries belong to the EU should be worried, because high inflation is just around the corner....

I sifted through many pages to see if anyone else mentioned this, but here is the scenario I think will be:

Scavier knows that a lot of people use a two pedal wheel, mouse or gamepad. So, I think there will be an option so that the program will cut out the throttle automatically, even if you have your throttle wide open, when you shift to a higher gear. It would have to be that way, I would not think Scawen would go to such extremes as NetKar has. We all know he is for simulation, but is also known to compromise for the sake of fun gameplay.

Wait and see, I suppose.

I have seen friends arrested, seriously hurt and killed from street racing, and innocent bystanders also hurt and killed.

You can implement all sorts of laws, have cameras every 20 feet on every stretch of road and people will still do it. Just take it to the track, and stop driving with your penis on public roads..
