I find doing this quite helpful: when joining a server with a combination you are unfamiliar with, is to start at whatever position you are assigned to, but back off the throttle and let everyone pass you. this way you can learn online, which is the best way to do so. After a few races on that server, just go full on like everyone else.
I continue to do this after 2 1/2 years, and so far, I have made few enemies but a lot of friends because of it, and I have never been kicked or banned from a server.
And if you are going to get passed by the leader and get blue flagged, make sure you maintain your line and easy off the throttle a bit. No need to make life difficult for others; you will be amply rewarded in the long wrong for behaving in a chivalrous manner.
Well that is wonderful information and all, but there is no such thing as a SR20DET sold in North America.
Now, listen to a person who works for Nissan North America, and more importantly, works in a parts department for Nissan. Stay with the KA24. Don't be a sheep and do what everyone else is doing, who says their method is right? Let us run down the virtues of the KA24DE:
It appeared in a million plus cars and trucks.
Parts are very cheap and plentiful.
Used engines are very cheap.
The engine was made to be abused.
Gobs of usable torque.
Practical for everyday use.
So let us say you get that SR20 slapped in, didn't the upgraded water pump, and you go to drift event, and your engine locks up solid. Why? Because you only get to overheat that engine once and then kiss it goodbye. What then? Can you go to your local dealer or aftermarket parts place and get what you need?
Nope. You have to wait, and you will pay. Oh yes, you will pay.
Check it out: I sell parts to a major, nationally known Nissan/Mitsubishi tuning shop, and they buy enough parts in a month to beef up 5-6 KA24's. Every month. What do you think they tell their customers; do you think they lie to them, tell them to drop in a SR20, and magically their car will be a monster, or are they honest with their customers (like I am with you right now), and tell them use what they already have?
With a little work, you can have 300 real world horsepower out that KA24, and be able to live with it everyday. Yes 300, not 400 like you want. But think of this in straight line performance: a 240SX with that kind of power will do 12's all day long, and get you home with no problems.
Am I saying that the SR20DET is a bad engine? Oh, hell no! It is a wonderfully over engineered piece of kit. But you live in America, where they sold a sum total of zero here. You need to think in practical terms.
Nothing as of yet. When I get the time (and money!) I will probably crank it up 50HP or so. Just enough so it is not unbearable for daily driving,. lower it with Subaru "pink" springs and absorbers, larger front and rear sway bars...
Some of you are quite funny, complaining about how a Subaru Impreza is ugly. Let me repeat that again...that a SUBARU IMPREZAis ugly. Well, that is the point! Function over form...function over form...
I myself have a 2007 WRX, and it is, by far, the most butt ugly car I have owned. It is a turbo lagging, understeering pig with the interior from a Massey Ferguson...and I love every ounce of it. If you want something pretty get a Lancer Evolution, or start appreciating Italian and French cars.
Speaking of EVO's, I do not see anything offered up for the WRC. Oh wait...that's right; Mitsubishi decided to whip out their dicks and piss on their loyal fans by introducing the EVO X.
You can argue numbers with me, but in the real world, the new STi trounces the new EVO X. Mitsubishi has, like with the Eclipse and Gallant, moved on to something more fatter and stupid.
How about the Nihonkai Maze circuit? From all the Best Motoring shows I have seen, looks to be good fit for the autocross track because the Maze circuit has virtually no elevation changes, and is pretty short.
I mean, c'mon! When I first met my wife, she had Norton on her computer, and at one point (and I kid you not) it detected a download from Norton as a virus.
In two years LFS will be taken over by militant 13 year old cruisers and drifters, and thus the great LFS "Racer War" will begin. Rebel factions, led by TristianCliffe, will launch offensive attacks from the CTRA server, daring to do the unthinkable and actually, you know, race online.
The war will be long and drawn out, taking many online casualties and splintering into many factions. Eventually, the racer faction will win the overall war, and the creators of cruising will be brought to justice, their servers destroyed, their LFS licenses stripped away, and will be forced, on pain of death, to talk to everyone they encounter in real life or online with AOL speak.
Oh, and in 10 years the GTR interiors will be almost completed, probably on patch S2 Beta .5ZXB336G
