I have to admit that the Saitek Joystick I own isnt really great, they way it is designed to center is self is really stupid and takes away its precision. It is very difficult to just make a slight bank whilst in flight due to this annoyingly stupid system. Rumble though is quite good and there are plenty of buttons to satisfy my fingers. (Observe attachment)
The plastic bit with the spring that actually forces the stick back to its center causes too much friction when you are trying to make small adjustments which is what takes away the precision. I have resorted to actually oiling the area where plastic spring bit meets base plastic and this has given me a much more smoother movement bit I am thinking of removing that spring altogether...
It was really cheap so I can't really complain too much, for the amaunt of flying i do its not tooo shabby
Well they ran the BMW F1 on ice and snow (vid somewhere on this forum) where they had to seriously raise the ride height so I dont think that will be a big problem for them to race it on The Ring!
That will certainly be great to see a modern F1 car on the old track. I hope thought that he will be given the oppertunity to really go for it on the track and not puppet around. I know it says their aim is not to break any records but I woudl love to see the F1 go round fast.
It will be a few races into the F1 season so i guess he wont have that much time to learn most of the track but certainly It will be interested to see what time he will lap the awesomenest (that a word?) track in the world.
It will certainly be a great day for Nordschleife.
If we could get enough people together you could get each person to paint a part of the letter untill the 50 or so peoples images combine to form the whole letter. Sound like a lot of hassle and organizing but it would be possible.
hmm this is interesting. I had a similar thing happening to me. I would boot up lfs and start a race and then suddenly my lfs would minimize itself, but it would only do it once as after it was ok for hours on end, it would only happen few minutes into a fresh game. I turn off all background running applications except nod32, although i agree with tweaker, why should lfs minimize and it is mostly caused by some background application but in my case i never found what was causing it to minimize.
I have gone through 2h league races and it hasn't happened in any of them so I guess it sorted it self out but i do still sometimes get it again..
Last time it happened was when i pressed ESP to bring up the options in LFS and swooooooooshh LFS minimized with only nod32 running and I have had nod32 for over a year and it was always ok...
nice vid for your first attempt, I really quite enjoyed watching that. The texture looks a little bit artificial with everything looking clean. It kinda looks like a 3d rendered animation, a very interesting effect.
69 mod is cool, i really have no car preference, they are all good. But being a ferrari fan i would obviously like a ferrari but that has nothing to do how it drives. I find GPL cars are all fun to drive!
Just pick a track you think would provide a close race. I think Kyoto National is a good choice for that one, wide track, fast, provides most overtaking oppertunities...
or.....
put then all in a hat or assign a number to each track and then get some one to pick a number from 1-5 and what ever number it happens to be is the track we will race.
I think it was Bob who first installed LFS demo on my pc back in summer of 2003. Back then though i was well into MOH and MBTR so did very little racing untill the autumn when I actually bought s1.
That certainly is a very BIG tower! It seems like a very ambitious project and if it actually gets built.
I think that we humans need to become slightly less lazy, we have gotten use to our very confy lifestyles,
eg... go home turn light on.. walk to kitchen turn another light on, turn tv on, go upstairs to have a shower whilst leaving lights and tv on downstairs etc.. We are taking so many things for granted and we are wasting energy due to our lazyness. I for one when i am at home I turn lights off whenever i leave a room, i turn the tv off even if i go out for 10 mins as if I am not there watching the darn thing its just going to eat into my electricity bill and waste more energy. I even turn things right off so its not in standby mode which again is very pointless with stupid little leds talling me my tv is actually on, i know they waste very little electricity but if you combine it will all of the leds around the world, in tvs, videos, computers, consoles, sockets and so on it is electricity being pointlessly wasted.
It all comes down to can i actually be bothered to think about my actions every time i turn something on, can i be bothered to get up and turn that light off next door even thought i know i will be going back to the room in 15 mins after a program is finished on tv in the next room?
I personally think that there is too much electricity being wasted, in my block the lights in the lifts are on all of the time! why not have alift with a motion sensor that would turn the light off when theres no one there and it hasnt been used for x minutes, in the coridoors of my block lights are on 24/7 all year round, again electricity wasted, why not have a timer and a motion sensor set to the lights? so they turn on as soon as someone walsk into the coridoor?
In town, closed shops have all of their display windows lit up whole night! why? more wastage and it can just go on and on.
If we actually thought about how we can save energy and implented such systems then there would be less of a need for more energy.
We need a lifestyle change, we have to become more aware about our rubbish (waste) electricity usage, water usage and need to become a little bit more conservative. I know many people will not want to change but eventually we will have to.
On the nuclear power front, i agree that it is the cleanest source of energy athmospherically but the waste is very hazardours and very dangerous and needs to be stored or burried underground. I do think without nuclear power we would be living in an even more polluted environment but we should not stop investment in sustainable energy where ever possible.
Nuclear waste should be blasted off into space! ok bad idea
Btw has anyone heard about the recent proposals about capturing the gasses from powerstations and pumping them down into deep caves for storage???? they seems to be convinced that its a very good solution
Wow, that was some awesome flying. Make me wannaget my Saitek Rumble Force joystick out and boot up IL2 Sturmovik. That really had to take some practising to do all of those acrobatics as IL2 is so hard to play lol.
I often put my self to shame when i join a IL2 online server by crashing simply on take off one of the reasons why i keep my feet on the ground and replace lifting wings with downforce wings and for wheels damn LFS goooooooood.
Will probably have a play with IL2 later tonight as its a great game!
Have to agree there too with Maggot, they dont really look similar to Pitch Blacks creatures. Starship Troopers i thought was a great film when i watched it, yes little bit cheesy but quite enjoyable to watch.
@ Eldanor: Yeah thought the military adverts were great lol
"Would you like to know more?"
going back to the mosnter similarity, I actually think that Half Life 2's monsters you encounter on the beach are very similar to the ones on ST...
Yeah watched this last week on channel 4. It has thrown up a few good questions and explained few things but I still believe that our everyday actions and lifestyle is effecting the planet and its ecosystem and maybe even its climate.
In the end i thinks is better to be safe then sorry.
One thing that was interesting was how govenrments give more funding to projects and scientists doing research on global warming then if you were researching something else.
Its not often that i make a thread but i thought I should about this.
It was sent to me by a friend of mine over msn. At first i thought another crappy cadget but then after doing some research and read up on the controller i was quite intrigued.
As much as I think its a waste of money (quite happy with my normal mouse thank you) i do think as a novelty it's quite cool. Seems a little bit impractical and i think my arm would get extremely tired having to have it raised like that all of the time. Imagine playing CSS or something with it for a few hours!!! your arm would be dead.
edit:
Nevertheless, it looks like a nice piece of kit, id love to have a go with one of those as i think it would me quite fun. But for $100 i dont think I would buy it. One thing from that video of the girl playing with it hit me, when she was playing Half Life 2 with it the recoil of the gun causes the whole view in game to jerk up/left/right/down which ever way which is totaly unrealistic. When one fires a weapon its not really the head that jerks that much but the arms. Often in shoot them ups they have the whole thing jerkking on recoil but most of that is actually cutioned by the hands and body so the head actually moves less.
Wonder what it would be like to play lfs with it replacing the mouse, I know it wouldn't be as good as the wheel though, also as that thing you actually hold is detachable wouldnt it be cool to actually stick a joystick on there and play something like IL2 Sturmovik.
Over all its a nice concept and nice idea but it will need to get lot more support from current games, flying games would be best suited for the Falcon.
