Quote from Mako. :that's the problem right there /\! It's that you're driving a van!

For example, I drove a TurboII Mazda RX-7 into(and out of) a series of s-turns, at 80mph, wide open throttle. There was no squealing, no roll, no nothing, only... GRIP...massive grip! .... now THIS is a car.

In my younger irresponsible self I would do 90+mph on English country roads in a Vauxhall Cavalier, doing 80mph 'wide open' in some Japanese washing machine just aint hardcore

The car : http://www.steve.dwest.dsl.pipex.com/sri16osf.jpg
The road : http://www.frontiernet.net/~jnc1/eng2HR_90.jpg

OT : I think the behaviour of cars in LFS compared to the real life situations and cars in the real world is pretty bloody accurate, 90% of the cars on the road are built for 'comfort' and 'safety' - Which basically means crap handling and boring ride. Most road cars roll like a boat around sharpish bends, and they do this at a slow speed which gives you the impression you're doing fast but in reality you're probably only doing 30-40mph. I guess the reason you think the RWD cars handle so poorly in LFS is because you're not actually aware of the speeds you're doing and if you have a nice car setup, well it makes all the difference!

Although this post is relatively useless and really doesn't help the current situation id like to say just a few things regarding the Redline Servers.

I think everyone can see that the servers are run and paid for by EVO, and she has the right to do whatever she wish. But I'm not going to sit here and defend her actions entirely, she does have a habit of being a bit stiff and machine like for people who don't follow rules. Evo will probably disagree and that's entirely up to her, but if you're dealing with the general public you cant expect them to follow the rules 100% of the time, this isn't military this is a game where people have fun.

There are no excuses for people who misbehave or wreck or generally be abusive, but if your response to peoples silly mistakes like accidentally budging or crashing is 'you're getting a ban' - Well how do you expect an individual to react? I couldn't possibly count the amount of times I've been taken out whilst I'm on that super fast lap, but what can I do?

Evo: You've got my full respect, but sometimes you need to just ease up with the rule enforcing, you here to have fun like the rest of them and the more you ban the more you need to read useless posts like these which will probably anger you... Which probably means your BP is going higher, which increases risk of stroke/heart attack and all that.

To everyone else who races on the Redline Servers: Read the rules and keep the language and racing clean, and you should be fine! Oh and stop complaining

Quote from duke_toaster :All wreckers IMO should be master server banned.

Well aren't we lucky that your opinion isn't the deciding one eh? I suppose you would ban everyone who doesn't have the same political view as yourself, or support the same football team?

Ok he read the word "n¡gger" big deal? Black use the words among themselves and seem perfectly cool with it, and when someone calls me a "kraut" I take no offense to it. Its even prohibited to use the word "n¡gger" on this forum but its perfectly acceptable to say "kraut" "limey" "beaner" Get what I'm saying?

I fear LFS S2 is coming to an end sooner then I expected, I'm still waiting for that big final update that will finish her off... But it just ain't here yet..

So many expectations and so little letters left in the alphabet.

Quote from DeadWolfBones :We ended up being ok. Three of the Merc guys bailed us out.

Yeah and what an event it was! We've known about this event for a whole 3 days! Not to mention the fact none of us have driven the combo, I myself had only driven it a couple a times before with the FXO but that was eons ago.

Turned out to be a fun event!

Quote from Cr!t!calDrift :Should make a little person's team like:

TeenyBopper (gay)
YoungCuts (gay-er+poser)
LittleLeague (It's so innocent it wouldn't be taken seriously)

But you get the point

I fail to see the point...

You're really not in the position to be taking the piss out of any team or team suggestions, given the fact you run a demo team which is the laughing-stock not only within the LFS community, but the drifting community also. Next time someone asks for some serious advice, be sure that you offer the best you can, or none at all.

K bye.

Quote from duke_toaster :Prolly it's deliberate gear ratio sandbagging - however some motorcycles are limited to 300kph though, and Mercedes and BMW (I think) put limiters on their road cars

I think its some manufacturing law/agreement that all cars built in the EU are electronically limited to 155mph, don't quote me on this though but I think thats the case.

My utmost respect to you mate, more often then not you'll find people making teams and just abandoning them only weeks (even days) later. So fair play to you for waiting now and not making a team, I think people in general will hold more respect for someone who knows when to make the right choice

Quote from DriftStar :Rate my drifting.. out of 10.

I would like CC too, if you think it sucks, tell me why :S

Please do take the time to watch, it's only one lap, it wasn't my BEST setup, but it was my OK-ish one.

Thanks,

Why are you asking people to rate your 'drift skills' and then go and say 'it wasn't my best setup'

Why bother? If its not your best then how would it be valid criticism?

Id have to agree with the general vibe most people are going with here, if you really want LFS then buy it.

LFS is purely a luxury and not something you need desperately, some people in the western world today still struggle and are very much on the bread line. If you cannot afford to buy it then...well tough, you're going to have to deal with demo.

Quote from Bagskærm :I have never played a racing game with so much realism like this one.. The handling is outstanding..

This is precisely why we don't need a big fat V8 like some lardy Dodge Charger!

It would handle just as it would in the real world, people would then come to release how terrible it really does handle and refute it. Oh then call Scawen an idiot and try and convince us all that it would nail a Ferrari F430 round Nurburging

+1

Just for laughs!

If it happened after a long while playing a 3D game then it must be hardware trouble, id check to see if the thing is over heating.

If it has a fan connected to its GPU check to see if its clogged up with dust and clean it if it is. Then just try play LFS and see how long it takes to go haywire. If it falls over again and only after a good while then id recommend a new graphics card.

But to be sure :

1) Shut down the machine
2) Give it plenty of time to cool - 45m+
3) Boot it up and get straight into LFS

If you have another game do these steps with that too, you don't want to go and splash out for a new card and release it only buggered up in LFS!

Or just have the ability for everyone to host their own hi-res skins remotely and have a path in their LFSW account, so if people have a 'download hi-res option' checked, it connects each LFSW account and downloads where needed. Or perhaps try and implement something to allow LFS to download directly through players on a server?

Quote from Dru :It's got nothing to do with losing time i can assure you Paul,

Regarding this matter,

What i do not understand is Franke came out of the corner and whilst he is still in the corner i have alreay started to move to the left to cover the approach on the straight, i did this every lap by the way, but why after Franke have left the corner he still came over to the left i don't know, maybe it was he had this move in mind or thought i would stay right - no idea, but he moved, then rather than lifting and losing momentum he still tried to go past me when the door was already closed. However i get the feeling that you leave half a cars width and someone thinks they can still go for that gap, run there wheels onto the grass then have a go at the guy in front for racing his line.

The lap earlier LArssen and yourself had got to my inside cleanly (as i tried to move across too late) i tried to close the door between you too but there was not space and Larssen was already on my inside (level with my rear tyre, then i have to conceed the place, i can not move across and i didn't and you were already alongside me so i also had to conceed the place, would have loved to have got in the slipstream of larssen but you were already there. it's much easier to defend when the guy doing the passing is on your outside for the next corner.

I've watched the replay several times and can not still understand why going down the straight when we are running parellel to each other that franke lifts very slightly then steers gentley intome whilst by my back qtr panel, this in my opinion is not a move to the out side and also can not be considered a general mistake as i've watched the first 5 laps of franke and hes very very clean with everyone else he has followed through that time and had been closer and not tagged anyone else, therefore i can not understand why this move was made.

If it was a genuine attempt to go to the outside then i accept that and let the matter drop however my gut feeling was something different and that it was frustration for not beeing able to pass out of the last corner, becuase i'd already covered his move to the inside, also i do not consider running someone into the pit wall when i closed the door at the last corner exit point whilst franke was still in the corner and not even along inside before his car was over lapping mine, surely that just a move to defend my position legally, ie 1 one per straight, i made it immediately and then over the course of the straight was moving back to the racing line as is my right.

Regards,

Dru.

Sorry to dig up an oldish thread here but I need to clear this little mess up, this is also part of the reason I quit the series. I tried to come along side you on the left, but you refused to give me room to sit side by side and thus forced me over onto the grass.

I then decided not to pursue on the grass and was about to lift off and turn back into your draft. At this point I went to tell my teammates on TS, well basically that you didn't leave me any room and basically I just cussed alot. To do this I have to hit the mouse wheel to talk, You'll probably notice me change down somewhere this is when I do it. I didn't brake and if there was any contact well it wasn't intentional in the slightest, I had a better exit on the corner I believe and I had more speed with the draft so my idea was to come in on the inside.

So no I never went to push you or spin you round or anything, I simply gave up on the idea of you letting me past so I slowed to get back into your draft to regain the lost pace as a result of slowing down. Then the final bit was your braking maneuver at the chicane, given that 30 seconds prior you tried to push me off onto the grass, I interpreted this as a move to get me off the track. Although it probably wasn't but yeah, you get the idea now.

Yeah my team mate (Barros) suggested Ubuntu to me and I have to say its pretty bloody cool, compared to Debian and Slackware . It didn't have any trouble reading from my NTFS partition but I think it couldn't write back to it.

Id really like to use this more as my primary OS, but alot of stuff just doesn't work well or at all. I'm not a heavy programmer/web developer and I like to play games, so Windows for now is the best solution for me.

James : If you want it to look like Mac why not run OS X?

This is purely my opinion so feel free to ignore it and reject anything I have to say, but I think all those names are terrible. Not really sure where 'fatal' 'gravity' 'pulse' and 'logistics' really fit in with online simulation racing, but like I said its only my opinion.

I suggest you take a look at some of the well established teams and try to find what they all have in common, the name mostly doesn't really matter so much just as long as it isn't too much of a mouthful. Another thing you want to consider is why exactly you want to start a team to begin with?

There are alot of teams out there now that are looking for committed members, and its much easier to improve a team and get it a good reputation, then to start from nothing and expect it to come easily.

Anyway, good luck!

Quote from wheel4hummer :Hey guys, I just got a car today!

If thats the same Escort i think it is, then it used to belong to a fella called Paul who lives up the road from me. He initially payed like £5K for it, and it actually looked good to begin with.

It was featured at the time (98/99) in a few UK magazines and such, he then got his hands on it and turned it into the mess you see before you. He also slapped some NOS on it and blew the engine up doing he says 160mph, but we all think it was closer to 140.

It was for sale for ages and he was asking around £20K for it, people just laughed at him so I guess he sold it for alot less. He now drives a legacy thing that farts along...

Not really sure if its worth the extra money to be honest, how many people really bother making high-res skins anyway? The average Joe Racer on a public server is probably going to use some publicly available skin thats lower quality to begin with.

As for league events and such, people will probably do as they do now and create a skin pack for the participants to use.

Quote from Dru :Thats a shame

It a pity that you have labelled people ''unfair/unfriendly/unclean'' when you have had a bad race and your moves don't work out the way you planned.

Regards,

Dru.

Its also a shame you think the only reason Ive quit is because of my 'bad' race, that isn't the case and I'm sure I could of pushed on and grabbed a few more spots. But it was obvious from the first initial practice session you held, how the league would pan out. Either way I'm out and enjoy your racing.
