Sounds like a good idea Dan
We already have the /find command, I would have thought without too much programming time, a system could be made to look for your "buddys" when you click multiplayer, maybe auto buddy list update (from LFSWorld) or manual where you have to input all your friends usernames, the former would be nice
I've thought about that "splitting the forum" idea Gener_Al mentioned, but I think whatever measures you take people will circumvent them, increasing the need for more policing in the long run, itws worth noting that the state of the forum and the state of online activity dont reflect each other IMO, there is still good racing online once you find the right bunch of like minded players but to the new to LFS player I think this forum has become a very dark place compared to what it was when it began, after the good old RSC days lol
I'm probably repeating some of what has already been said...
The way I see it its hard to find a popular server that isint running areio (sp) not only does this destroy the inserver chat, it also means all the car filters in LFS serverlist are no longer correct.
I joined a TBO (listed in serverlist) server a few months back, and couldn't drive any of the TBO cars because of server specific rules (points related)
I did stay and drive the XFR and realised I needed to drive months before accuiring the neccessary pointsrank. I felt dissapointed but continued at the LR server and enjoied some really nice races. I achieved the TBO rank last week
For me when in an "arieo" server I find the !help commands feel unnatural compared to what CTRA had, and I still dont understand what all the info displayed in some menus means.
When the CTRA was running it was the first of its kind, only had 3 or 4 public servers out of hundreds of "normal" servers, and when you joined it clearly told you what you needed to drive etc and backed it all up with a website that tracked everything, with clear and comprehensive rules etc.
Its seems now every server has different arieo settings and commands and is more confusing, than ctra was, to me at least.
There are still good pickup races to be had, you just need to use your LFS buddy list to find them or keep shifting servers until you find something good
The flood of BL1 servers is of course because a few patches back demo servers got combined with S1 and S2 servers in the list, without the option of filtering them ATM
Ill keep an eye out for ya on the servers Fordie ;P
EDIT: just looked through some of your posts Klingon, did you buy LFS from liveforspeed.net or is this sold to you from another? ( I only ask because of THIS post)
I think it would be nice to have another button (similar to pause/car/view left of the progress indicator bar) that basically does what Shift+F does, but with the addition of hiding all chat messages also.
This would enable anyone to view the replay in trackside/TV cam view, without any text, and without knowing all the KB shortcuts.
I've been asked more about LFS, when people have seen replays playing on my PC(in the background so to speak) some have said it looks more like watching a TV race that way
Reads perfectly fine to me Shadow, at no point was any "I am better than you" written or inferred.
It just feels very negative when you start posting stuff like that Shadow
This person comes here asking about S2 and its userbase, another possible licence sale for Scavier, we are his first impression of this forum, all of us posting here in this thread.
@Lau, luckily there are less foolish drivers in S2 servers than in the demo, so if serious racing is what your after theres more of it
I think there are also alot of mature & responsible people here on the forum, however a minority are also spammers and are tolerated a little too much IMO, but youll get used to who to ignore
Welcome
Just to add, an LFS S2 licence costs £24 thats around €28 at current rates.
There are loads of servers (around 700 last time I checked) but many are empty or private, I usually filter empty hosts, and this leaves me around 60-100 occupied servers to join, (this is late evening after 2100hrs GMT)
I have been joining the LR race servers quite a bit latley and grid sizes are very good there, usually 20-30 drivers or more
Depending on your driving style preference (ie drift, cruise or race)and car preference, you should still find plenty of drivers to race against
If you come across me in the LR server, I look forward to looking at you, looking at me, looking at you in my rear view mirror
I've connected loads of large deisel generators on building sites and the like, some as big as trucks, most of the modern ones have really, really good sound proofing, you can hear them, but not as loud as you would think.
You would need a UPS and use it to invoke the generator (autostart) because you need a buffer to give the generator time to get up to speed then a changeover switch for exclusive generator power.
If you just want to power your computers in a power cut, depending on how many PCs and other HW you want powered you can work out the demand you will require, a heavy duty UPS could give you 3hrs or more, and with a shed full of scrapheap 12v lorry/golf cart batterys much longer
1500Kwh for 60 days is 25Kwh a day I think thats alot, but you may have electric water heating/cooker etc and it all adds up, I run an energy monitor and my family (me+wife+2kids) uses around 10-15 Kwh a day, less than 10 if I run around after everyone and we sit in the dark at night
Consider green alternatives to conventional generators as the price of electricity is set to keep rising, and with the energy bill passed (here in Europe), suppliers are forced to "buy-back" any extra electricty that customers who use green micro generation can produce, at a substantially higher price (edit: not sure about Canadian laws)
What sort of power requirments are you looking for Blunder?
Sounds like you want a grease powered generator?
I've built simple wind generators based on axial flux type (big magnets and coils of wire) Im building one this summer that should have around a 3m wing diameter.
water generators are simple to construct too if you live with a stream or waterfall in your garden you could (with aprox 10m head) easy run a 5kw generator all year round.
I've dabbled with solar, I have some 12v charging arrays and a batch of individual cells waiting for me to solder them all
If I wanted a passtime for the rich, I would be into real motosport
Ill try any free demo they put out but If I pay £13 I would like more than a month to evaluate, especially given the actual time I give over to hobbies like virtual racing, I take it if/when you stop paying it shuts your offline practise too?
Good to hear that it blows all other sims you've played out the water tho, Ill just keep an eye out for that coupon day
I wonder if they will ever do a coupon day? or other free demo, just to let some of us less affluent enjoy this iracing everyones always raving about
Can you get pickup racing in iracing? or do you have to be online at specific times?
Is there many people playing in the free (but with credit card details??) demo?
can you race any class of car you wish? or do you have to play through all the lower levels first?
Maybe one day I will try this iracer/iracing/idriver whatever its called
Absolutly, ask for an international money order made out for £24GBP (about $48.75AUD (assuming you want S2)) then send it airmail to the devs with your user info, should take around 2-3 weeks to become licenced
All the info is on the main LFS site
If you have a UK bank account you can buy LFS licence and pay by cheque, it takes a few days longer to show up due to post and clearing etc, you can also pop into the post office and ask for a money order, hand over the cash to postie then send the money order to LFS HQ, slightly quicker as money orders are like cash So if you really want S2 and you earn your own money....
If you like the demo, you should love the S2 cars and tracks, I think the extra content and everyting else that comes with a licence is well worth it, for me anyway
OT/
I don't think Vane meant anything, he was just asking the question
Alex, pay no attention to people who say S2 users are better than Demo users, some here are a little narrow minded, however most are friendly, polite and responsible.
Kevin, have you driven the other 2 "road cars" both the XFG and XRG are really good for training, and IMO are more forgiving than the FBM, so rather than spinning the XRG will just drift a bit and teaches you how to regain control when you lose it
Its all about learning the track (or tracks if you get S1-2) and knowing when to brake and the apex speeds etc it will come to you soon enough.
a good tip is when lapping press shift F this removes all info from the screen so you can concentrate on just driving, look far ahead and not at your speedo etc and just try to be smooth and gentle
