Very nice.

But I think you are aiming at teaching people to look at their speed too often.... that they don't focus on the actual driving line. (Also distance values that aren't even relevant).

You should just be teaching braking points and driving line in my opinion. People that look at their speed are for ones looking to get the smallest amount of time out of a few corners, when the focus should be on driving on the edge... and not looking at your speedometer. If you teach someone general braking points, and their entry speed is too slow, they will obviously understand that through trial and error. So all they need to do is practice the braking zone and driving line to get the most out of their lap. Speed is only relevant with a specific driver and car setup... not everyone is the same.

Yeah the G25 can work fine connecting to the Xbox, and auto-calibrate to 270 degree mode (what someone told me)... however there are no games that recognize the G25 as a proper wheel controller. Before Forza 2 was out, there were talks that the developers would give G25 support... however, according to market research (and this is nearly what they said in a statement), racing games are so low in sales, racing peripherals for console games are the least of any developer's worries, and therefore give limited support to such devices in their games. It would require a lot of extra testing and time invested to support all kinds of USB wheels, so I take it that only general and generic wheels will work with the Xbox 360.

I'd like to use a good wheel with the 360, but it seems it is never going to happen officially. Hopefully some kind of adapter can be made or something... Because this is the one thing that prevents me from buying a 360, I don't want to purchase a 2nd wheel that is a piece of crap.

Quote from tristancliffe :But to those that think it's a lap mounted wheel, or that the wheel is at a crazy angle, may I invite you to look again at the blurb and the pictures - it's a REMOVEABLE lap thingy, and that's the cause of the silly angle. On a desk I'd wager it's about the same as the G25.

A friend of mine owns a Xbox 360, and has 2 lap mounted wheels. Apparently, all console based wheels that are lap mounted have a removable lap base. But they still don't attach to a table. They either have suction cups or rubber feet to lay on a table. The fact that the primary design of a product is with a lap mount, just goes to show that this is NOT intended for a simracer at his/her desk.

I'd be REALLY surprised to hear that this wheel is good (IT IS FOR A CONSOLE), because I am 100% positive that it is a piece of shit!

Isn't the screenshot kind of misleading? I mean surely the effects show up better when lighting is off in the viewer, but I'd like to see if it really looks ok with shine and lighting on.

Otherwise, the kit looks great  I would've moved the side gills a little bit further back though... looks strange to have them so far forward

If you've done the auto-update, go into your LFS folder and you should see a X10 readme file (README_X10.txt) there, that has ALL the info.

Quote from spankmeyer :If you can get away from low-end, only display worth buying is Dell 24-incher and up. That is if you pull a lucky number and get an IPS-panel...

The old Dell 2407 was the one to 'get lucky' with for an IPS panel. But they have their new 2407-HC out, and rest assured it IS an IPS panel +many refinements. I bought it .

Strange thing is, when I was unpacking it, the monitor stand had some checkmarks from the factory for what model it was intended to be used on... there was an empty checkmark that said "2408" :banghead: lol. Perhaps they will have yet another model.

Two small windows of 960 width? That is plenty, and I am a web designer who uses two such windows side by side because they both will fit a fairly standard width for design. Even if I choose not to do that, what ever happened to just alt+tabbing? Because of that, I don't understand why having 2 monitors is really needed. I used to have such a setup, but I found it useless, and just bonus e-penis to be honest. About 10% of the time I found myself using the 2nd monitor for the added benefit of just putting Winamp on the other side, and/or my browser window in the 2nd screen if I made any changes to a website I was working on. When instead, I found myself wanting to work on ONE single screen and just use alt+tab to see my changes. It's not so hard to do that.

There is a real common misconception for most users out there that having a 2nd screen will make you develop faster and have 'more room' for other windows. Bullshit I say. It really is down to someone having claustrophobia of windowed apps layered on top of one another so they cannot see them all at the same time. Personal preference and gripes in my opinion. Having a 2nd screen does not make you any more professional than that of someone with just one screen.... nor would you save any time having a multiple screens with most common applications of design.

Now if you are a game programmer or video editor, I can see the use for a second screen. Naturally those job titles would make a 2nd screen a requirement, however it doesn't make using only one screen obsolete.

Hahah a recent funny quote(s) from Lewis Hamilton on F1Technical.net:

Quote :Will you use the McLaren simulator to prepare for the race in Brazil?
"There are no plans to use it but can if I want to."

Why would you not use it?
"I only use it if I come into the McLaren Technology Centre for development work on the car. I don’t really gain an advantage physically or mentally from it. I’ve played Brazil many times on the Playstation. I play it with my brother and I’ve always won!"

Quote from Gunn :Winamp has always been full of bugs and bloat. If it doesn't work well with your LFS it is doubtful that LFS is to blame. Have you tried an older version of Winamp?

I really haven't seen any bad bugs for the 7+ years I've been using it. If you are into skins, you will notice weird behavior with the player, but nothing related to its audio playback. I've always used the classic version anyways.

Krammeh, I haven't noticed any problem running winamp and/or shoutcast while playing LFS or any other intensive game. Never install any plugins (like audio effects or whatever) for the player if you have those. Also check to make sure the priority levels of Winamp and/or LFS are set to normal.

It could all come down to a problem with your system or soundcard .

I believe supers were taken off the standard road cars simply to achieve a more realistic feel that one might expect from a road car. If the cars had supers on, I bet they would be pulling 1g in the corners or more, and they would just be cornering at unbelievable speeds. I say this because before when LFS used supers on all cars, most people argued that the smaller roadcars were cornering too fast.

Kind of a decision on the devs part to have some variation in feel as far as I can see. And I like the way it is now really. I know some people argue that the road cars should have slicks on them as well... and while that would be fun, I just think it sends the wrong message when it comes to LFS and its roadcar physics. Because many driving sim fans yearn to find a fun and enjoyable roadcar simulation (with the feel of a stock car), and if everyone was using grippier tires, it just wouldn't feel right.

I'd much rather have slight race-spec versions of all the roadcars to use, that would be great fun. Like some amateur touring/cup car models with slight more power and grip.

Get an LCD with 1920x1200 NATIVE resolution... you won't be dissapointed. Because something of that caliber will definitely be a quality screen. Anything less will be a cheap consumer purchase with no real good value in terms of resolution and features. If you put forth the money for a decent high-resolution screen, that pretty much takes care of a lot of your questions. You don't need to worry about stretching because the screen should take care of that, and/or if you have an Nvidia card, there is an option to let the card to its own scaling, and use the proper aspect ratio (eg When I play BF2, it only supports 1600x1200, so I have it give black bars on the side and get the ratio correct, or else BF2 looks nasty when stretched).

And this narrows down your options too, because there aren't many good top screens that will have that native resolution.

I run a new model 24" Dell (2407-HC) at that res, and other friends I know just love 1920x1200 or higher. I was used to 1600x1200 with my old CRT, and the added width is really nice to browse the web and watch TV at the same time with picture-in-picture . A friend let me try his 2500x1600 screen, and that is massive, but felt like overkill for both size and the idea of an empty wallet.

I cannot stand LCD screens that are 1680x1050 native or less, that resolution is crap if you are into doing graphics or need plenty of workspace. Buy something new with much higher res, those old low-res screens are at the bottom of the market really. The Samsung 223BW is at 1680x1050, and for a 22" screen, that is really low. Not worth it.

private skin.

Is it just me, or has that skin taken elements off of Zachary Zoomy's FXO FedEx skin???? http://www.lfsforum.net/showthread.php?p=565177#post565177

The rear resembles a Celica... at least that is what I said. (Has a very high sharp cutoff on the rear/side)

Put those two car pics together and you have this drawing . FXO should embody a very European style in my opinion, or else this concept just strikes me as Japanese made.

Quote from aoun :Do you live in Australia?

Why would he say such a thing if he wasn't?

Not like this is uncommon anywhere else in motorsports....

We get all the Ford vs. Chevy vs. Pontiac pissing contests here with Nascar , when it really means nothing like Gunn said. I'd much rather support a driver than whichever brand of car he/she is driving. Put a champion in either of those cars, I am sure it won't make much of a difference.

This is most likely NOT a G25 competitor at all. I mean come on, a lap mounted wheel with cheezy side supports?

Definitely for a Porsche enthusiast/fan, but NOT someone looking to have a great wheel for a simulation imo. Small plastic paddles reminiscent of old crappy Logitech models, connected bar mount for the shifter???, and the leather which is nice, but the actual wheel is just all plastic... and I bet it would feel heavy.

Yeah LFS should keep the retro old designs it has now, but I agree that we need some more modern looking cars added on the grid, not redesigned. Nothing looks very recent as far as I can see .

As for this newer FXO model, I don't think it fits the kind of shape an FXO would have at all. You gave it more of an aggressive high-stance crossover AWD-Hyundai style car, rather than something that is a sporty FWD coupe. Rear is too much like the Celica anyways, which is a car that looks like poo.

I do like the front end though.

Yeah I already have a few DX10 capable games, but I haven't installed Vista yet... I just don't feel inclined to do so. The games can play fine in DX9 though, and I am sure Crysis will too.

Crysis looks good I think, and I'll definitely give it a try. But I really would like to know how the campaign storyline will unfold... otherwise it just might lack in that area, especially for a jungle warfare game (not much you can do other than be sneaky, but I like teH sneAky!!!!).

Videos of developer interviews say that the multiplayer will be very robust, I sure hope so...

Play lots and lots of video games the night before the exam!!!!

:eclipseeh:munching_

No really, search around for some good texts to read and study with, they help a lot. Some people even goto specialized tutors who help them prepare for the exam.

Quote from deggis :This is exaggerated, you don't see it that much on other games.

Wrong actually... I see it in a lot of other games that have real tracks. There are always inaccuracies with 'real' tracks in video games, and thus people always argue if someone was too slow or too fast on a track, and blame the track not being accurate enough. And in my opinion, no simulator will ever give you an accurate depiction, ever! That has been discussed for years in the LFS community though, so 'nuff of that topic.

Anyways,

Just because LFS would have a real track doesn't mean it is bad for it to uncover any physics issues... if any. Kind of boggles my mind why so many people are saying that a real track would reveal the awful truth of LFS... yet so many LFS'ers here constantly strive for realism and always swear by the dev-sword that the devs will keep improving it patch by patch. So... if we had a real track, what makes you think the devs wouldn't improve the physics to try and replicate a realistic experience? To me, saying that you DON'T want a real track is just taking a step backwards in development for a better and more realistic game. If you didn't want a real track, all we'd be left with here is our own fantasy world in which we always use as a weapon against other competitor (quote on quote) "simulations". And continuously you will just have no proof that LFS is realistic in that regard, and you'll sound like idiots (bleh, simulation communities already do when arguing realism anyways).

LFS needs to improve in many areas, and one of them is to have some new tracks (real or not). Which in turn could help towards the next step in physics. But then oh wait, LFS S3 isn't for physics is it, so it goes against 'the plan'.

Some improvement subjects can be so touchy to people with this game, ffs, I'd do anything to have any new worthwhile features/content right now in LFS. Instead I see people throw away perfectly good ideas more and more now. And the fact that more requests would presumably start flowing by the millions, doesn't mean it is bad either. LFS already has tons of improvement suggestions that would be worthwhile (and some not so worthwhile)... the only question is, when or IF we will ever get any of them. Because now it seems we've seen a significant drop or standstill in content production for LFS. This is probably some-hundredth request thread on 'real tracks'. All we can do is sit here and beg in hopes to get something nice in return. Haven't worked as well as it used to . I guess we could use new request strategies, like house raids, or stalking.

(taken from LFSWorld, just go on LFSW and find the name of your host, and copy the join link from that)
