Wise words.

Sometimes I think the battle for this planet is lost anyway, so let's at least save this galaxy. By dead consume our self. /Sarcasm off

As long as parents "whip" their children to surpass them, as long as we turn in a circle. The children should have better grades, have better jobs, and have more money. And what do you do with more money? More consuming, of course. The whole thing is in my opinion more of a causal evolutionary problem.
All parents want their children to feel better than themselves. Even animals want that. This is a function of evolution itself.

But If 8 billion predators believe they can own everything and have been chosen by God to conquer this universe ... then .... then .... then = 42

Planet of apes....nothing else.

Just as a single human is born and dies. In the same way, it may well be whole species in this universe. It may sound sick, but maybe we are doing everything right right now to make room for others.
Its sad but we had our chance.

Quote from Scawen :We are really far from a test version yet!

On my side there is still work to do on the graphics. I'm working on a bloom effect right now. I still need to improve the baked lighting rendering system to reduce some ugly vertex lighting issues you don't see too much of in my well-placed screenshots. Wink

at this rate, the test version to come will be called LFS 2.0 ... even if the 1.0 has not yet been used Ya right Omg omg omg

Quote from Scawen :Then I still need to work on the physics and improve the security of the master server protocol.

Meanwhile Eric is continuing with South City, and still needs to finish Kyoto and update Fern Bay.

To me, what you described Scawen is more 'consumer society' than simply 'capitalism'. And indeed you are right and free to live the life you choose. But in my opinion, and as Aleksandr_124rus is writting, it is somewhere because of of this economic growth that we, "people from rich countries", are able to choose our way to live our lives (i.e. : in some countries, people working 16h per day to 'survive' may have less opportunities than us to choose a "better life") ... Nothing is fully black and white Wink
Anyway, enjoy developping LFS !

Quote from Scawen :I think it works nicely at South City.
The attached shot is of the OLD South City, which I have been using for testing purposes.
This is NOT the updated South City which Eric has been working on.

Dare to post the updated one to make the comparison ? Tongue

Very nice and excited to see the night ! I made some tests in ACC by night and for sure it is the kind of feature LFS must have !

Quote from BerdyGaming :Quick question regarding time change: Will track temps go down as it gets darker outside and the track cools down?

Not unless somebody (Scawen) will implement that in the code. And as he's busy reading these forum responses and deleting spam/troll posts, so I'm not sure...

And as it took so unexpectedly long, if I would be Scawen, I would probably wrap up the gfx patch as quickly as possible, postponing *any* other change (including track temps) to next patch ... plus there's this new tires physics thing, which has to be decided before releasing current gfx patch, if it's ready to be released or what to do if it is not... i.e. IMO plenty of work to do before this patch will be available to players, even without adding other small bits.

I think Scawen will be reluctant to do it like this, because it would mean two physics (resetting hotlaps) patches in short period of time, but if he does communicate that clearly, I guess most of the players here can live with that, accepting first patch more like test of gfx shaders to report remaining issues/bugs, and wait few more months/year for "final" patch including the titbits.

Quote from BorislavB :Scawen when we can see some pictures from new South City too?

When Eric will provide them (i.e. when he feels it's ready to be shown).

Quote :Does Eric will work on Fern Bay too?

He either must to rework it, or Scawen has to remove it from the game (and so far the plan is to rework it if I understand Scawen properly, he never mentioned anything being deleted from the game, *I* am mentioning it, because it's one of the theoretical options how to release the patch).

As the current track would be seriously broken with the new graphics engine ... the materials with new shaders would look wrong (so it would be maybe playable, just looking weird/wrong in places).

But the new shadows require proper geometry with the track surroundings being modelled in more complete way, having also solid walls on sides where you can't see it from the car on track (and these are often missing in old tracks as they were optimized out for old engine).

Without these fixes the shadows would blink hardly almost everywhere, suddenly popping/vanishing, so it would be not possible to play it like that (unless you prefer to play with "stroboscope" effect Smile ).

(I'm a bit guessing, so my description of situation may be not 100% accurate, but from my own experience with 3D engines programming and with the changes described by Scawen I think this guess is not completely off... I think some of that was even mentioned in one of the progress posts, but I can't recall it for sure any more, it's kinda taking a long time to remember every post... Smile ).

Quote from THE WIZARD DK :

could backfire as many people made alot of effort into making some mod content that will be completely unuseable after the updates. as i understand it, scawen means to keep the DDS files possible to alter. but not sure how everything else will go. kinda like taking the breath out of peoples files and perhaps they then dont feel like making new.
...

dds mods will probably somewhat work, depends also how much original set of dds files will change, and how much the colour profile will be important. And some materials will now require alpha channel data I guess?

"keep possible to alter" ... wait a second, it's your computer, you can alter any part of LFS, just some parts are easy to alter (like dds), and some parts are more difficult (like changing parts of code), but Scawen can't stop you, he can only make it more/less difficult (like for example signing dds files with private key and checking the signature before load to refuse to load modified ones.. then you would have to remove the check from the binary to allow modified dds to load).

Anyway, this situation (big change of LFS internals) was expected and envisioned, and it was the main reason why "no mods" policy is in place. To save people from the feel of having their many-hours hobby projects destroyed by next update of LFS. So it's just happening as envisioned (wouldn't say "planned", but it was more like "inevitable". It wouldn't happen only if the project would be abandoned sooner).

May backfire... may. This whole thing of S1/2/3 and updating one game ad nausea IMO did backfire a bit. Other car-sim games developers are instead releasing "new games" when they finish these bigger patches (netkar / rFactor / ...). That makes also the loss of mods probably a bit easier to accept? "it's new game, of course my mods don't work any more"? But LFS is hiding this behind "patches", so it may feel different (although it's practically the same thing happening, you just get the new "LFS2" for free as you already have license and it will be still named "LFS").

You dropped your microphone? Big grin

By the way, I have a question about how do we judge...

If I report somebody for switching his side of the road more than once while defending, how much of penalty can that yeild (and I'm talking about the case where somebody could do it multiple times during the race, though with different people)?

And do we have to have full car or half of the car parallel to have right for room into turn?

Also, on the A21 track (round 2), we have this long back straight full of bends... Does each bend refresh your right to change the side of the road on defence?

...

I watched R1 replay and I am kinda disappointed that nobody report anyone.. Next race, probably, less people come, AND more of those who come gonna get mad af Big grin

If you guys don't start reporting this stuff, I feel like I gonna go and do it myself Dead banana

Quote from Bose321 :I honestly doubt it. I believe iRacing and rFactor and AC right now are just way too big (mostly in the professional teams) for LFS to make a comeback with just refreshed tracks and slightly improved graphics. Sure there will be a few more people, but it simply can't compete with the huge (real) content other sims have to offer. I'd like to be proven wrong though in a few years when a new patch is out. Smile

You are more than correct on that one.

Storm, you just sound like an old person who is simply not accepting any change in the game industry. It is more important what the majority demands. Clearly, that's what the community wants more (look at iR / AC etc), those games attract people who are willing to pay because there's content and there's always something new.
You just need to burst your bubble and realize that in today's society, these sort of players (mainly iR one's) seek more than just ''hey uh we got a nice spectator mode and chat interface''...

It sums it up for you but the racing community isn't made out of 10 old, retired people, c'mon, get real here!

I think even Nilex has got over the fact that this game is just a dying breed..........3 guys who work on a game can't compete with the staff of iRacing or AC, it is just not possible. Look at the money these guys invest in iR to get the latest tech co-op with what they are putting out. It doesn't MATCH UP the level of effort that goes into here. Get off your high-horse and realize this is just as bad as any other game that had their time to shine but spoiled it in one way or another.

The industry doesn't care what you want, they just want your money. iR is where it goes and they got the supply to keep up with the demand. LFS is just a great hobby for Scawen and Eric but before it gets anywhere near iR level, we will probably be in our retirement houses.

The racing communities however, did not. These communities have left the project a long time ago now (and I have serious doubts it will ever return).

There's very little point to implement word blacklisting, there are always ways to avoid machine-grade blacklists, and in the end they will always start to filter out also legit messages.

This banning after seems to me so far somewhat effective, there's not *that* many cases yet (if somebody is using bots to advert some fishy webpage on forums, it usually generates lot more spam over few days, than these few sore losers using LFS in game chat).

Of course removing the pirate service completely would be nice, but that's not that simle... if even possible. Some people are simply idiots.

About "paypal knows what they are involved in" ... you mean like daily? Over the world? Jesus, I hope they are not, because they would very likely suicide themselves instantly (not because of LFS, but the other stuff). Big grin

Jelly tires

throwing this out there, LFS is one of the FEW driving sims that actually do this right. believe it or not, whcih saddens me these days so very few real drivers because of how cars are now even making humans believe there is a "drift mode" in real life makes me sick but, topic at hand YES the jelly tires ARE realistic, in fact a lot of times it has saved my car and possibly me in real life, when they turn to jelly on ur ass in the seat, it lets you know they are about to explode, i will enclose a picture of my tire with new/old ones going on in the back of pic, and the jelly feeling is how i was able to predict my tires needed changing asap (daily driver/toy/all rolled into one)

P.S. the kid i bought the car from and that stole it back put my tires on his car even after i told him these are finished and ready to explode... 2 days later on big highway they exploded and ****ed his corolla up.. then he said "this is all your fault" OI!!!...

"YES, THE JELLY TIRES SHOULD STAY BECAUSE IT IS REALISTIC AND NOT MANY OTHER SIMS CAPTURE THIS DETAIL".

I sent the gearbox for warranty in the day after I picked it up, the store had no more stock... However they totally said even if Logitech doesn't want to give other or fix, as soon as they get new stock they will instantly give me a new one and I won't even need to wait for the warranty one (that is if they get them sooner in stock)...

Hope when I get the 2nd gearbox replacement all works well...

And about the noise, I see on youtube ppl claiming they are already on like the 2nd or 3rd logitech G29 replacement and they all start to make that noise almost in no time.

But I mailed logitech and they said its not normal and to send my G29 to warranty, but I won't since I just see everyone having the same exact problem...

I want is to BE able to get full 100% brake pedal range using my G25 pedals on G29, after like 50% pressed the brake value is already at 100%, probably G29 just crapped down on the brake pedal values Frown. (I WOULD BE HAPPY IF ANYONE COULD TELL ME HOW TO ACTUALLY GET THE FULL BRAKE PEDAL RANGE TO BE READ ON THE G29).

ps : I'm already starting to wish I would have waited for a Thrustmaster promotion instead, because G29 have only been a big downgrade for me compared to my old G25 (better FFB, simpler and better PC software, actually fully working H-shifter with sequential option, no strange noises, just bigger noise when turning because of the direct gears instead of the helical ones that started with G27), also its a nightmare to use any button as Handbrake while I could use G25 central shifter buttons for handbrake way easier or use sequential shifter almost as a real handbrake and the biggest disappointment is really G25 had almost 100% brake pedal full range compared to around 50% pedal range read on the G29, ABS must be always on at 100% on any sim or its impossible...

Big grin .. and after all that... done... on single machine.
You need to make it viable for MP in some form... Big grin ... surely 3 day coding session change. Wink

(I mean I'm really looking forward to these subtleties and to see LFS being better and better simulator with every release, I just don't see much point in asking about any kind of timeframe, especially with Scavier history record of how LFS evolves. I'm just looking forward to whatever the patch will bring, I'm sure it will be awesome any way. And then I will be looking for next one.)
