My first racer was Geoff Crammond GP2. My instincts told me that the cockpit view was the correct way to go but for the life of me I couldn't get round the track. I had to resort to the 'top of the drivers head' view just so I could see what's coming! Only then could I drive laps with any confidence. I tried the chase cam and immediately that didn't feel right. Mind you, F1 isn't the best game to cut your teeth on.

Maybe use that flipcams addon that allows you to have 5 custom views? Make one to be the look-over-shoulder view and you're done!

Edit: Use quotes, damn it

I'm not really that fussed, but it was a quite natural way to spectate. I could sit back in my seat and follow the action without farting about with buttons
EDIT: Ah, see what you mean about 'why'

Quote from XCNuse :Every single forced cockpit server I find I'm going to leave.

You shouldn't have to go on one at all. There's an 'F' on the server list info that tells you it's a FCV server. Don't join it!

Quote from dadge :read what the guy said. he has a dissabillity in his vision and custom view helps him guage the distances in the game. i know that i can't argue against that because i do not have this dissabillity. but you seem the think you know better so you tell him how to get round his dissabillity using only cockpit view. custom view is different from chase view.

I did read what he said bud, all I'm saying is that if he can see his monitor the view he uses is irrelevant.

Quote from Gil07 :Ehm... Why? In spectator mode, why would that be so weird? Can't you get the same effect with Shift-U, Doorman?

Because it is(was)so goddam simple!

Quote from dadge :sorry bud, you're so wrong. if this were tru, why does lfs (and most other racing games/sims) have marker boards leading up to corners? is it so that the driver can guage the distance to the corner? or is it because there on the RL track so the game must have it too?

What? So how does floating 6' behind your car help you gauge distance? Your eyes are focusing 2-3 feet in front of you and it doesn't matter which part of the screen or which view you're looking at.

Quote from Blackout :..And where the hell is the hardcore people when you need some support? Come on..the volvo man already turned his coat..bloody swedes.

We're here, holding your coat.
What I find amazing about this perennial argument is that out of 3-400ish servers, only a dozen, tops, have enabled FCV.
So chase view jockeys are being denied the use of 12 servers! If anything we are the put upon minority.

The ONLY thing I miss is not being able to look over my 'shoulder' in spectator mode. I watched some damned good battles like that.

Quote from Glenn67 :

If you are using a clutch and H gated shifter then there is no advantage as you have to do heel toe to get equivelant lap times that opens you up to making alot more mistakes in the course of a race and imo requires a lot more skill compared to sequential shifting

That makes me feel soooo much better about being average.

Quote from Trekkerfahrer :i am eye handicapped.... i need a custom view.... othoerwise i cannot see distances correctly

There aren't any 'distances' in LFS, you simply look as far as your monitor.

Quote from Blackout :It's absolute bullshit it doesn't make it any more realistic, it may not be 1:1 which is never going to be possible anyway, but it's closer than having your eyes 6 meters behind the car isn't it?

And reduce the amount of capitals and exclamation marks please. You can so easily come across as a real wanker that way.

/me puts arm around Blackout's shoulder and leads him away from this pointless argument. They won't EVER see it our way but it's down to them. You're banging your head against a brick wall. Just look out for FCV servers. *cough* dMr

On the back of this improvement, which has happily been implemented, can we now have either: 1. The ability to have buttons assigned to 'Repair damage Yes/No' to save having to mess with F12, arrow down, arrow left etc. whilst driving into the pits. Or: 2. Allow selection of the repair(or not) whilst stationary. Either one, I'm not fussed, but having to mess with keyboard at speed has never been a strong point.

Using this thread to save space, before I'm jumped on for resurrecting an old thread.

You DO have the same views as everyone else, you just don't have to press buttons to get them.

Give it up. You've got the same view as everyone else. In fact it's better than non TIR users. They have from 30 to 90degrees each side take it or leave it. You, and I, have variations in between. I agreed with you in your first poll that it's a shame we don't have the more or less 360 degrees any more. But I'm a 'level playing field' man and you're asking for, but won't get, more than the rest.
I don't want to see the loss of analogue speedos but I'll live with it knowing everyone else has the same.
Stop torturing yourself and drive.

Can't think why I would want someone who is not only stupid but also a w... , what he said, to come and play LFS. Thanks, but I'll leave that one out of my collection of Finnish phrases.

Quote from RatzMilk :To those posting 'not this again' posts, the views have changed and are more restricted now. This was done for realism.

Thus, any previous polls on this subject were based on different views being available in the first place.

If you think this poll is a waist of time, then don't read it or participate, no one is forcing you to.

You're banging on about forced cockpit view and it's been done to death.

Quote from Yaamboo :Ok, what I meant was that you can manage by speaking English, but you can be despised at some occasions when not speaking Finnish. Which means that it's good to learn it. :P

Golden rule: If you're going to live in a country it's only polite to learn it's language. Very minimum, give it your best shot. It'll be appreciated.
There are people in UK that would do well to obey that rule.

My bottle of wine says you're all weird. But then I'm weird so I'll fit in just fine. As far as the humour goes, it's on a par with my own. Trouble with that is it doesn't work in print! Let's go and have a beer somewhere.

Quote from ATC Quicksilver :Hang on a minute, are you an owl? How can you look over your shoulder and still see your screen?

You obviously have had no experience of TIR. I'm in complete agreement with RatzMilk. A for instance: regaining the track after a spin I used to be able to look back over my shoulder to see further down the track. No longer possible. Yes yes, turn on the map but I like to drive Shift+F and it now detracts from that.
But hey ho, that's the way it is so I'll live with it and try to pretend I never had the facility.
