Uh, no.
They always want the CAR as stiff as possible. They reset the suspension stiffness depending on the track. Monaco calls for lots of mechanical grip because of all the slow, slow speed corners. Therefore, the suspensions will have a bit more give in them than normal. For F1, it ain't much give, but it is there.
If the frame flexes, you can't control how the car is going to react. A stiff frame is predictable and you can use tire pressures and suspension settings to control how the car drives. It is one reason why convertable cars are not usually all that good for racing. Without the roof, the frame is just not as stiff (in general).
Well.... tires (oops, sorry) tyres do have aerodynamic properties too. They create drag and vortices in the air stream. It would be cool if they did model the tyre aerodynamics
I think they are having fun with it. I know I am. These little peeks into what has been going on are cool. It makes a nice break for me during the work day to open up the browser and see what is happening.illepall
Wow! Banshee driving a car with fenders on it and liking it... never thought I would see it lol
I think the point is that the faster cars leave less time to correct for mistakes. Add that to the fact that a lot of drivers, especially on public servers, can't drive the faster cars properly, you don't get close racing.
The GTR's are sexy, it attracts the noobs because they are fast. But they are not ready to drive them in close racing situations.
I love the TBO, LRF and slower cars. They are a blast to drive and they can be caught before a big mistake happens. I think you can have close racing with all cars, but it is more likely with the slower cars.
Democracy, or whatever label you want to put on it, has it's problem in the US, but it certainly works.
Secondly, nobody is truly free. However, Americans are free to choose a whole lot about how they want to live their lives. I think that is true in a lot of nations now.
The thing you don't understand is this: It is ALL an illusion. It is just that we, the people of this world, CHOOSE to believe in it and make it work. We have to because the alternative is total chaos. There is no "Them", only individuals working together trying to maintain order and stability.
Our press is more free than you know. They are the cause of many of our greatest woes and greatest achievements. They definitely have a political agenda, both left(mostly) and a few on the right. They choose on what to report, and they often choose to report only what they want us to hear. It is their freedom to do so. Free press does do damage, but it is damage that we willingly absorb. The image that you may have of American politics is greatly influenced by that same media. It is a very negative picture of the US. Most of it is overstated and made to be more damaging than it really is. Life here is not perfect, but it is good. My point is, do not let what you hear and see in the popular media override your common sense and view of the world. They paint a bleak picture that does not represent the truth very well.
And what you say about our media being afraid to take a stance is simply misinformed. Our media has railed against the war and against any military action against terrorists or anybody else for years. There have been protests here, and continue to be protests over America's involvement or lack thereof in international affairs.
I also don't understand how we get blamed for genocide in Africa and for sticking our nose in where it doesn't belong at the same time. Either we are a world player and we try to do what is right, or we ignore the rest of the world and let whatever happens happen. The latter is the definition of isolationist, BTW. And nobody, from any other nation, can stand back and say that their countries' international policy is not affected by politics, money, and power because it is. However, I do believe that for the most part everybody wants to try and do what is right. America is a great nation of people who are for the most part benign and want to help.
Oh, saying "How can a nation be so brainless"... would be considered rude in most places.
Ah, so there you have it. They already have you by the "attachments". They control "your" money. You are now a slave to your government. You now work for them. You see, the power of the people is lessened by the fact that the people have figured out they can vote themselves money from the government. None of those types want their gravy tray taken away, so they will always vote for the guy who gives them "free" money and won't vote for the guy who would set them free because being free means that you are on your own... "freedom's just another word for nothing left to lose". OK, I'm done now. illepall

Moore's stuff is the worst kind of one-sided, opinionated, grandstanding with extremely limited grasp on reality that can't be rebutted because it is in the form of a movie. It is a good place to start if you want the longest possible trip to the truth. "Documentaries" is the wrong word to use for his work. One man's vengeful opinion is not a documentary.
America is it's own worst enemy for sure. America's politics are arguable. But that is the beauty of it and other free countries. Do you think a regime run by Nazi's or Saddam would allow any arguing in the first place? Don't think so. But there is another type of total control regime out there. It is the benign "we will take care of you because you are unable to take care of yourself" regime. This government thinks that you are not smart enough to take care of yourself so the government will wheedle its way into everything you do to the point of even telling you how to think. This is similar to communism. It is designed to help the little guy, but in the end, all it does is control the little guy.
Say what you want, but please, do real research first and don't base it off of Moore's diatribe. And don't generalize to an entire population. The US has all types. I have friends that hale from all points on the globe and I am extremely grateful for that.
And for Rabbi, don't let a couple of punks influence your fun. Ignore them, go to a different server and don't project their stupidity on other people. They are responsible for their actions as you are responsible for yours.
I had a league race with a choice of the GT or GTi. I of course chose the GT, a car that I am very familiar with from S1. I lapped it hard, progressively improving my lap times.
I posted my hotlap for grid position, and I noticed that everybody else drove the GTi and was getting much faster times than me. I am normally mid-pack in this league, but I was near the bottom with the GT.
I broke out the GTi, and after a few laps I had smashed my PB with the GT. I was able to post a time so that I was at my normal mid-pack starting position.
The point of all of this is that I know how to drive the rwd cars. I like rwd cars better. My LX4 time on FE1R is 45.6x. Not too shabby.
But, the GTi is so much faster than the GT, you have to drive it in races that allow both or you will not be competitive.
If that is the case, then it is just a 24 hour ban. Only an admin can set a ban for longer than the default. So, either there are somewhat careless admins for that server, or the offence was somewhat more egregious than thought.
Well, you have to understand that since 'Mericans are voracious consumers, each 'Merican LFS racer sucks up approximately double the bandwidth that any given European racer would. Therefore, it takes only half the number of 'Mericans to test a server as it would if only anemic Europeans were used.
The other way of looking at it is if we have more good NA based servers, maybe we can grow the NA fan base
The necesity to see and avoid is an important issue. I think that is more the reason for the rule than who has rights to the line. Unless you have a reasonable chance to see the other car, you can't avoid them. It then beomes a safety issue instead of an overtaking rule.
Lets face it. The white car was a lot faster. The blue car was blocking. They could block because they had a "right" to the line. He was not doing illegal or even unethical blocking, he was just trying to stay on his line. But he had to know the white car was there and trying to pass. In my opinion, he opened the door into that corner and was irresponisble to try and close the door after opening it. But, if you go by the letter of the FIA rules (I know it is sanctioned by another body), he might still have had the right to the line, but the vid is still not conclusive... to me.
From the other videos I have watched of this type of car, the type of sliding the blue car was doing is not normal. Either his car setup was crap, or he did not have the skill that he needed in that car. The rules are one thing, but if you know you are going to get eaten up, then you better be ready for people to try and pass you. Being right according to the rules does not magically unbend your car.
No arguments there. The point is, there has to be a market for the guns, or they wouldn't be going there. If it were not from the current source, it would come from someplace else.
Hmmmm, I think I might know what the problem is there
Ah, yes. The answer to the problem above. If nobody understands your "humor" but you, then maybe you should reevaluate your view of the world. I know those last comments were meant to be funny, you almost made it there, but still missed the mark.
Nope, sorry I didn't.
I figured that one out on my own
No, you did not directly say they were from NY, but you implied that they were and you did not say anything about after their higher educations. Words mean things, dude, and it also means things when you leave words out.
Hmmm, that is where we disagree. There is a difference between self deprecation and wild generalisms that are solely aimed at implying other people have less worth than you do. It can be a very fine line. Sarcasm does NOT come across well in text unless you do a particularly good job of writing. Sarcasm can be cutting and cruel, or it can be extremely funny, but a lot of people only learn the cruel side of it. The fact that it is just not funny seems to slide right past them.
You know what you are thinking, the train of thought that makes it funny, but we can't read your mind. The comment about guns and Georgia is a good example. There is nothing funny about that. Now if you would have said they send all those "legal" guns with filed off serial numbers to NY to insure that as many New Yorkers kill themselves off as possible, then it would have been funny. It implies that people from Georgia will let anybody own a gun and that they will to do crazy things with the gun, and people in NY are just as culpable because they actually use the guns on each other. Now, you have to think, who is really the stupid one here?
I know I get bent out of shape on things too easily. I am too literal of a person. So, have fun with your humor, I hope it works out for you. But be careful, in Texas, shooting annoying Yanks is justifiable homicide
Uh, ya. It's just that they probably can't understand a word you are saying seeing as they speak English there. Also, there is an assumption of civility and politeness out west and sarcasm is saved for people who you are willing to call a friend, if it is meant as a jest, and for your enemies if it is not.
DOH! I forgot, ain't nuthin gud 'les it come outa Nnugh Yauk.
Lets see, 6 under-employed 20-something characters living in apartments way beyond their means, getting themselves caught in all kinds of goofy situations yet still manage to maintain their strong bond of friendship even while they swap mates like fruit flies in heat... Nope, I guess that kind of humor couldn't happen anywhere but New York.
Oh, and since David Crane was born in Philadelphia and is Ditto with Marta, then I assume neither of them are from New York?
The only thing I don't like about New York (city) is that way too many New Yorkers end up moving out west. Please, stay right where you are and live in your own self centered little world. The rest of us will be a lot happier. That way, we can take our vacations to "The City", watch all the loonies (it's almost better than watching the loonies in Las Vegas), and go home to our dull, unenlightened little lives in the real world.
I'm making a generalization, but sometimes it's spot on.
If you did not save by hitting 1 or you did not hit escape and hit "replay", then it might not have saved. This is to keep the clutter on your hard drive down.
However, another reason might be that it was not a HLVC good lap, and those don't get saved.
Were you running in hotlap mode or single player mode?
Many possible issues here. One is that there is a firewall. There are the software firewalls that you can turn off, and there are hardware firewalls that you may have to punch holes in for LFS to work... but usually that is only the case if you are trying to run a server.
Find the master server IP address and send it a ping and see what happens.
Also, your ISP might have a proxy server upstream of you that is causing a problem, or they might have some form of firewall setup.
Another thing to check is all your IP settings and make sure that they are configured properly.
If the demo worked before, then S2 will work. It is not the game that is a problem.
Oh, come on. That is like saying a girl deserves to get raped because she wore a sexy dress. It is NOT her problem, it is immature males who are the problem.
She is a person who likes to race. She is female and probably does not want to use a racer name like BallsOfFire or EvilSpeed. I know what it is like, I have lived for long periods of time in places with a very low male to female ratio. It is always a nice to see a member of the opposite sex show up. But that does not mean that she is just dying to stop racing and have a sexy chat with you. All of that is in YOUR head. She is just there to race.
The point is, LFS is not a pick-up zone.
If you are that desperate, try an online dating service, the women are there to meet guys (no shame there guys, it does work... I know from experience)
Oh, and Becky, I do ask other racers how old they are sometimes, and I do like to know if the person I am talking to is male or female. I am a way older than average racer myself and sometimes I get tired of dealing with childish behavior. Surprisingly though, a lot of times the most childish racers are a lot older than I would have thought. It has helped to recage my perceptions a lot ;-)
Best of luck and keep racing. There are a lot of good people out there in this game and a lot of good racing.
It seems like there can be two different definitions for a realistic sim. One definition states that the constraints of the real world like suspension settings, ability to see a track map, real world cars, and real world tracks make the sim realistic.
On the other hand, the other definition is that a sim is realistic if it closely models the physics of the real world and is a pure environment... in other words, as little as possible is scripted and controlled by the program.
Both of these definitions require quality graphics, sounds and other features.
There is a blending of these two definitions at times too. There are some people that want both in one and there are some who want nothing in the sim that they could not have in real life, like a moving track map.
So, you can have your own definition for realism, but please understand, we get tired of reading definitive statements like "Except the setup system in LFS is totally unrealistic, as opposed to the GTL setup system where they actually have capped settings." I would argue that they are not unrealistic at all. All of those settings can exist in the real world. That is my definition of realistic. It is not physically impossible to do. Is it not plausible in an engineering and cost perspective? Sure. But that is a cool feature of simulators.
And LFS settings are capped. You can't set a value of 5000psi for tire pressure. And can you argue that you can't set 0 tire pressure on your real car? Sure you can. It would be stupid and the car would drive like crap, but it is realistic. Try it in LFS... I think you will find the car drives like crap.
I'm sorry, but making a racing physics "Engine" out of existing code is not that simple. Just for Scawen to produce something with a reasonable SDK and API would probably be a pretty monstrous task.
Software is ultimately malleable, and so the perception is you can unplug something, plug it into a different product, and POOF, you have cool new functionality. It is rarely that easy and usually takes a lot of pre-planning to be able to use code in that way. There are lots of simple seeming things that take a huge effort to code, and lots of seemingly complex things that are very easy to code. Software development is a contradiction in logic at times and is horribly complex.
So, in a nutshell, if you want LFS to move forward, you better hope that they don't want to sell the "engine" because it would take a lot of work just to prepare it for sale.
