ohhhhhh god what an aweful race

I start 4th, and 2nd place doesn't move. First place jumped, and then decided to not move when the lights turned green.....

3rd and I dive for the same spot in the middle, crunching into each other.

I get in 2nd somehow. The car in front of me is lagging like a son of a bitch, and this is the first time I've experienced that...

First of all he was driving like a loon...and sliding all over the place. Pile that on top of the fact that apparently the game wasn't able to keep up with him, so he started darting back and forth when he would do funky things. I go off a bit on the 2nd lap and somehow it ****ed up the toe on my car. I brush the wall, but with the force that I touched it I could have just as easily run over a pebble and ripped the entire wheel off. The damage is a bit ridiculous at times.

To go in a straight line I'm holding the wheel at about 2 oclock, and it rendered me unable to make a proper right turn...convenient on LRP.

2 laps to go I go off in turn 1 all the way to the fence, seeing as I'm unable to turn right, and in the grass you can't do shit anyways. I get back on the track to find I have a flat tire...now at that point I had made it to 3rd and was lapping by myself at high 105's and 106s....I had figured how to drive it pretty well seeing as I just drove for 15 laps or so with a broken car.

So not only do I now lose my 3rd place finish, but I have 19 incident points and lose .14 off my rating...ashogioashoghasoghaoshgoahsgda

thats cool about week 13, didn't know it was just a fun week like that

Just did some qualifying at LRP, ran a PB (iirc) of 13.999. Normally after I set a PB in qualy I just quit and go back to practice or just chill, but I was feelin good and decided to go one more lap

There needs to be like a direct upload to youtube feature in this game...seriously

I like the last pic haha, I has a hover car

just had some more fun with the adv. legends on the lowes infield course

it would make an awesome go kart track...I assume thats what the use it for since its so narrow.

I got down to a 48.8

Its really a blast because you can crank the rear end gear all the way to 4.10's and have some nice tire spin action

It goes from bogging in 1st with the default setup to spinning a bit into 2nd when you shift

I really hope they get around to adding karts though, that would be fun :]

Its going to be hilarious on the forums once the legend road races start. "OMG 72 INCIDENTS LAST RACE AND NOW I'M BACK IN THE ROOKIE SOLSTICE WTFFFFFFFF!?!???"

oh man, if you hate the jefferson course in the solstice, give it a spin with the adv. legend car

I was just messing around and checking out the other road courses in the game, and its an awesome track with the little monster

I can't remember what my PB is around limerock in the solskie...but I didn't find it hard to get back down to a low 104.1

I know thats what I qualified at, could have sworn I ran a high 103..doesn't matter much though seeing as I can't go for more than 1 lap without crashing into something around that damn track anymore...I was actually fairly consistent before, not I'm running into shit lol

I need to take it a bit slower, or just concentrate some more and less sliding around on the warmup lap it gets kinda frustrating doing 3/4 of a lap and having to reset because I felt like a little sideways action (its so much fun though)

aghhhhh back to limerock for the solskie

I need to get my safety rating higher so I can have another track to race on.

I like LRP, but I really enjoy just making laps around laguna.

weeeeeee another race, another 11 laps out front hotlapping...dodging lapped traffic.

I really don't care if I keep winning or not, I'd rather be mid field and racing with someone

I must say this safety rating thing is really starting to annoy me....there should be like tests or something to improve it. I'm an extremely clean and generous racer in traffic, I have only ran into someone once, and both of us came out of it fine (bumped a lapped car goin into a corner on accident) etc etc etc. All of my races have been podiums, yet my safety rating is 2.7 (yay went up .1 lol). I'm racing with people in the 4.x and 3.x safety rating...so what determines what speed you're paired with?

Its so bulky and time consuming to actually race, and I haven't had one close race yet. I'm not the fastest guy in the world (this is the first sim I'm decent at online lol, I suck at lfs for the most part just a few cars on a few tracks I know)...so I'm not trying to sound arrogant...but at least get it close?

I was 1.5 seconds faster than anyone else fastest lap, and my avg lap pulled me away 1.3 seconds a lap :/

still can't get into the damn 48's...had ANOTHER 49.0, but this time on roasted tires, so I was sliding all over the place. The first time was clean and I felt fast, the second 49.0 I felt sloppy, and the third I had bad tires...I just can't get it to come together and break into the 48's lol.

Quote from Fuel Filter :Brainstorming session

As BL has limited track variations I burned a few minutes, brainstormed and whipped this mspaint BL fantasy variations layout... out.

BL Club starts on the left tight lane of the Paddock Interstate stretch with the other lane being Club's own pit area. The first left turn is a mild to hot speed choke off the interstate down over the blunt hill pitch heading for BL-GP (BL Club's ride down over the bridge may lift a few tires and stomachs) -- through a mildly fast 180* turn leading back under the bridge. Continues as BL-GP until you pass it's start/finish and are forced into a light right and left turn on a concrete pavement patch that slowly chokes further right. The left side is plagued with healthy green quicksand pitched downward threatening to eat it's riders (BL GP's frontstretch (right side) brags this as being a land dug wall) This rough roaded and dynamic part of BL Club makes braking after the speedy front stretch interesting. The end of this piece makes a smooth line transition into the far part of BL GP's T2/chicane and into a small acceleration before a quick zig-zag forcing a light lift on the accelerator. Coming out of the 1/2 chicane you ride down BL GP's slight and quick downcline on the backstretch and get into some speed. Hugging the left side, checking for any other cars amongst, you brake only half way in the latter end through the step out; knocking a cone or two through the uncurbed long right choke. Smooth acceleration through Clubs freshly paved interstate front stretch on-ramp.

I cooked a BL-3, but it didn't seem as interesting as my Club. Just dreaming:monkey:
Good topic too Got me thinking - sorry for going off track.

that actually looks like a real circuit with alternate routes instead of miles of pavement interconnecting

Very nice job! I'd love to see more tracks like that and less stuff shooting off in odd directions like aston

Oh man I'm sorry, but I lol'ed at the video...its so funny

anyone still actually in the rookie solstice? (god I need to race more :S)

If so I'm doin the race in 10 minutes. I hope I drive a bit better today...practiced and did some qualifying yesterday. Drove like I was drunk in qualy, but matched my 49.0 PB in practice...tried to record for shits n giggles but couldn't get camtasia to work right.

I can't get my safety rating above 2.6...I've time trialed, qualified, raced a bit...lol only time it goes up is in races.

I guess I don't drive clean enough. Its mostly 80% from hanging tires...on laguna seca its about no consequence time wise, and if you hang a bit wide on exit you might pick up a much needed mph

Anyways, I know I could get it higher if I just drove more...I have fun while racing, but often times miss the race by 5 or 10 minutes, and don't feel like racing 2 hours later.

Quote from Woz :Scawen tends to add/remove what he thinks is right for the direction of the game. Case in point being auto blip aid was recently removed and caused loads of bitching BUT shows Scawen wanted more hardcore feel.

Slicks are probably NOT on the TBO because he KNOWS it means road tyres might as well be removed from the game because nobody will use them.

This request has come up again and again and again over the years and has ALWAYS been ignored.

Hope that clears it up for you

its NOT the tbo cars with slicks though

its a slightly modified tbo touring class, mid way between tbo and gtr's

the corvette is designed like it is for aerodynamics nowadays

the ls3 c6 corvette gets 16 mpg city and 26 mpg on the freeway out of a 6.2L v8

that just shows how low the drag coefficient is

thinking more about it I think heavily modified tbo touring class would be best.

Stripped down, light, and high strung 4 banger screaming away. No downforce, sticky tires, and just sounding like its rattling and breaking apart the whole time. Screaming and bouncing and floating around the corner, making you question if the car was really designed to go that speed.

Super stiff suspension, small tires, light weight, moderate power increase.

front and rear it uses tranverse leaf spring with shocks mounted in a more conventional location

its independent double wishbone suspension

using slick mod with old versions of the game, TBO cars flip over with that much grip

it is used for the spring for the rear suspension, and it doubles as an anti roll bar.

Its hardly archaic technology from carriages or whatever BS clarkson spewed just to be anti-american
Advantages
  • Less unsprung weight. Coil springs contribute to unsprung weight; the less there is, the more quickly the wheel can respond at a given spring rate.
  • Less weight. The C4 Corvette's composite front leaf weighed 1/3 as much as the pair of conventional coil springs it would replace. Volvo reported that the single composite leaf spring used in the rear suspension of the 960 Wagon had the same mass as just one of the two springs it replaced.[7]
  • Weight is positioned lower. Coil springs and the associated chassis hard mounts raise the center of gravity of the car.
  • Superior wear characteristics. The Corvette's composite leaf springs last longer than coils, though in a car as light as the Corvette, the difference is not especially significant. No composite Corvette leaf has ever been replaced due to fatigue failure, though steel leafs from 1963 to 1983 have been. As of 1980, the composite spring was an option on the C3.
  • As used on the Corvette, ride height can be adjusted by changing the length of the end links connecting the leaf to the suspension arms. This allows small changes in ride height with minimal effects on the spring rate.
  • Also as used on the late model Corvette, the leaf spring acts as an anti-roll bar, allowing for smaller and lighter bars than if the car were equipped with coil springs. As implemented on the C3 and C4 rearend with a rigid central mount, the anti-roll effect does not occur.
Disadvantages
  • Packaging can be problematic; the leaf must span from one side of the car to the other. This can limit applications where the drivetrain, or another part, is in the way.
  • Materials expense. Steel coils are commodity items; a single composite leaf spring costs more than two of them.
  • Design complexity. Composite monoleafs allow for considerable variety in shape, thickness, and materials. They are inherently more expensive to design, particularly in performance applications.
  • Cost of modification. Due to the specialized design and packaging, changing spring rates would require a custom unit. Coil springs in various sizes and rates are available very inexpensively.
  • Susceptibility to damage. Engine fluids and exhaust modifications like cat-back removal might weaken or destroy composite springs over time. The leaf spring is more susceptible to heat related damage than conventional steel springs.
  • Perception. Like pushrod engines, the leaf spring has a stigma that overshadows its advantages.

Quote from flymike91 :iirc the corvette uses rear leaf springs which are much stronger and sturdier than other suspension types. When used correctly they can handle more torque without damaging the suspension while still behaving quite well. Many people use the fact that it has leaf springs to devalue the car but obviously it is working out for satisfied chevy owners and race car drivers.

No it doesn't use old leaf spring design. I will hate jeremy clarkson to this day for the goddamn leaf spring thing. The day he learns to properly drive a car around a track will be the day I stop hating him. He's funny and I enjoy the show very much, but I can still resent him. Best job in the world and he can't put a car around a circuit...gah.

it has transverse mounted leaf springs (picture is from a C5 corvette)

Front and rear it has fully independent double wishbone suspension.

Quote from JeffR :Combine that with the fact that each new GTR tested by a magazine seem to be slower than the previous GTR's tested as the cars get closer to an actual production car.

Then again, a 2 car comparason isn't excactly fair. The GTR appears that it will sell for a bit less than a Corvette Z06, with ball park peformance (lastest test shows 0 to 60mph in 4.1 seconds for GTR, 3.8 seconds for the Z06, both numbers could be faster but it's a relative comparason).

It's difficult to know if active suspension will allow a 3800 pound car to peform on a track similar to the ZR1 (3400 lbs), or the lighter still Z06 (3150lbs). However the Ford GT, at 3500lbs, is close to the weight of a GTR, and it's 550hp is enough help it keep up with the Z06.

None of this matters! They're both production cars. Thats all the comparison is...production cars, and how fast they go around the ring. All the stuff you're saying sounds like excuses for why the nissan isn't as fast, and it doesn't matter! This isn't just pointed at you..and I agree the two cars shouldn't be directly compared, but in a way they should be. I remember hearing also that the nissan used non factory sticky tires for the run? The corvette was on michelins that come on the car stock. However they will be continued to be compared because the nissan just shocked everyone when it went to the top of the list, and now the corvette just topped it...of course the bench racers will be all over it.

It is completely fair however that they are compared, seeing as they're being compared as fast production cars contending for the same record.

Also, there was supposidly a massive headwind on the main straight that day, and thats why it topped out at 179, but you can hardly believe any info coming straight from the manufacture.

(First off, where the hell do you add friends?)

Despite my last post, I decided to join the 10:00pm race 45 seconds before it started.

I was 4th on the grid out of 10, only the top 2 had qualified. I pulled in behind 3rd on the start, and we diced it out for a few laps. It was really a lot of fun. We were close in speed, and I had the first half of the track down really well, and he'd pull away on the second half. (I'd pull away everywhere after I warmed up a bit ). On lap 2 I had gotten around him. I got really sloppy out in front, partly from being in the lead, and party because I didn't have anyone to follow anymore and I was screwing up a lot.

On lap 3 I screwed up turn 2 exit and turn 3, and he got up along side me...now I've never gone two wide into turn 4, and I'd prefer not to do it again. I gave him as much room as possible, but on corner exit he slid up a bit and tapped my inside. We both made it out pointing straight, but apparently it bent the toe in the left front. He said after that his wheel wasn't even straight anymore.

I drove away the rest of the race to 1st. I had 10 incidents...very upset about that lol. During the race I only went off twice I think for incident points, and then I had the damn contact points...all 8 of em.

A lapped, very slow car was in front of me on like lap 8. I figured he's seen me by now as I followed him for half a lap catching more and more. Going into turn 10 He broke really early, and turned in way earlier than I expected. I broke a little later and stayed towards the inside so I didn't rear end him under braking...the plan didn't work out so great. I broke my left front and got 4 more points and had to put the rest of the race. He didn't spin or anything, just got a little tap into the corner, I passed him in turn 11 and off I went.

He was a rather erratic driver...

So anyways, I believe my safety rating went down like .01 even though I won the race.

Good news is I pulled a 1:49.0 out of my ass on the 6th lap for a previous PB shattering lap. It wouldn't let me save the replay after the race, and the replay didn't go back far enough to rewatch the incident...I hate their replay system. I wanted to record the lap as I watched it after and was actually really proud of it :P

I talked with the guy after the race. Real nice guy. We both agreed that it was just a racing incident, and sucked that it broke his car. I kinda felt bad even though I wasn't feeling responsible and he still got 2nd.

I really don't plan on these posts being this long when I first start typing, I promise...if I did I'd try to make it a bit more epic and exciting like the first one I did.

edit- oh damn I'm 11th in the series points with all 3 of my races completed 2 1st 1 2nd 1 pole, avg finish first. I love it

Haven't played really at all recently...when I do its mostly the advanced legends around road courses for fun.

Been extremely busy and haven't had the time to practice or race at all. Was disappointed to see that its back on laguna seca, even though I like the track I only got the one race in with the solstice at LRP.

I'm really feeling the subscription thing hovering over me. I feel like I need to play more to take advantage of the time I have, but I don't want to play the game casually, so if I'm tired or not really feeling it I won't play...can't kill my safety rating because I'm falling asleep.

1:50.0 was my fastest lap around laguna last time I raced there. Hopefully I've learned some things since then and I'll bump into the 49's.
