I would advise contacting your brother, ask him if he's S2 licenced, and if he would mind you racing under his username.
I'm not sure of the official LFS stance on sharing a licence, but I would have thought you would not be breaking any rules by using his account with his permission of course, a quick e-mail to the LFS tech would confirm if its OK.

Well Shift + F4 is to toggle window or full: but also ,shift + F9-F12 are configurable in options/screen, to switch instantly between resolutions, very handy when testing displays and FPS

I too have had some time away from LFS, not so much playing other games/sims, Ive just not had the time to PC at all
I play only LFS now, and I'm not a big open wheeler fan so I've noticed a similar situation as you describe, however I think the lack of servers/racers you speak of is due to the time we "olders" go online looking for action
I've had some cracking TBO class racing just recently, but at 23:00 (GMT) and later its hard to find a good choice of servers running tintops anywhere other than BL1
I think many of us got to used to joining CTRA servers and became a bit lazy, we just went there all the time, it grouped all of us into servers where we could get good races with good racers. now its gone, we find these TBO servers like RSR & NDR have sprung up to fill the CTRA void.
In the past, when Ive had a good close race I try to add "good" people to my LFSworld buddie list then check before I go on next time, to see where and what my buddies are racing.
As Scawen has pointed out there are more players than ever, but I think spread a little thinner across the servers, especially late at night, but thats to be expected I suppose.
I look forward to racing with you again soon Lake, I remember having some very close battles with you a few years back, so look out for me, and Ill do the same.
Im pleased Scawen has said something about all the "Devs are alive" posts, hopfully some people will stop posting trivia/spam in the test patch section also.
Its a shame the most vocal people on this forum, seem to be the most unhappy about development ect, rest assured there are many of us not so vocal here who continue to support the Dev team. I think of it this way, imagine trying to do your job (or school etc) with someone shouting in your ear "have you done it yet? where is it? now? where? whynot?"
I would eventually have to lash out.

I agree with your comments Jeff except I think your guess at 2010 or 2011 for S3 is way optimistic I would bet much closer to 2020 and if thats how long it takes, thats cool with me , I've more than had my 30 odd quids worth
IMO the thing with LFS development is, even tho its been some time since LFS was "new" the sim will always be "updated" maybe all these updates we've had are not everyones cup of tea, but theres no doubt LFS is a quality product, and maintained as such.

Some of the DFP and momo pedals have different post to those and there are different ways to fix when they work loose.

I think LFS is actually not very graphically intensive at all, its all DX8, there is more stress on the cpu doing all the physics.
If other 3D games run at a reasonable FPS then LFS should also, and Ive seen it run on really old PCs with a few settings tweaked.
Try renaiming your cfg file (located in the main LFS folder) to cfgold and paste in the one below, its the (minimum cfg from lfsbench) then restart LFS and see how many FPS you get.
While your in the LFS folder if you open cardcfg with notepad it should tell you what GFX card you have, might be worth trying a different driver.
as for upgrading, spending good money on an old PC would probably not give the fps return that saving that money for a more modern power PC would, However I think LFS will run on your machine with some adjustments, and maybe turning off some background processes

If you have an older maybe shared GFX, you may need a better PC to get really good 30+ FPS or you will have to run with very minimum GFX settings, a good test would be to play in single player mode with only your car on the track, FPS will decrease with every extra car that is displ;ayed.
but if your GFX says it can't do 3D then other games would also run really slow if at all.

thats ok it means Anti -Aliasing basically its just a graphics option that smooths jagged lines and edges, it can make the picture look great, but it requires alot of processing power and if you have "shared graphics" or an older dedicated GFX card, can really impact FPS alot.

If you run LFS go to options then "screen" will tell you what res you are running in white. try it at 800X600 @60Hz, just to test
click options "graphics" to see if your running AA or not.

What screen resolution are you running LFS at ?
do you have AA enabled?
is it the same windowed as fullscreen?
Sounds like a HW restriction are you turning off all other programs and taskbar items when you run LFS?

When your PC froze, it reset the calibration, just run LFS go to options/ controls / click "axis/FF" button then click "recalibrate" its on the right side above all the axis displays. then you need to turn your wheel from lock to lock and press and release all the pedals, then click "lock" also check you have FF switched on in the same screen.
This should fix your problem
You don't need the logitech profiler, LFS will work with your wheel just fine without it. Use "<" and ">" ingame when driving to adjust the FF

Maybe this issue has helped the decline in LFS online racers?
The main thing that plays a part in my decision to continue playing a game is the cheaters. Thats why I dont bother with the BF2 & BF2142 games anymore , they are infested with cheats.
I wonder if this is done in other sims like IRacing?

Some people here at this forum, only "know" you from what you post, it would be easy to get an impression from your 1st post inthis thread that contradicts your later posts.
The same thing happens when people join a server and see playerX swearing or abusing others, its a public forum and a public game (sim) and we all agreed to the forum agreement, not to use foul language etc.
The whole point of the thread was that theres far too much foul langauge on the servers, anyone can buy this game even very young children, I don't see the need for children to be subjected to any of the myriad of profanaties I've seen people post in the chat.
Some servers run (or use to) anti swear chat filter that will kick or ban if people swear, unfortunatly thats just lead to people circumventing the system exactly as they do here by using numbers etc just like in post 19 in this thread.

Not sure where this thread went wrong, the OP has a broken wheel, Bose offered the part to repair it (assuming thats what the prob is).
The money for a new wheel could be saved.
I suspect its not the circuit board, in my experiance, the inner cores break inside the cables. its reasonable easy to replace or "hard wire" any cables that are damaged.
I would first confirm what the actual problem with the wheel is, could be as easy as replacing the PSU.

I found the NDR server this week to be rather annoying with about 50 "Fail" messages per lap
Even some of the most well known servers seem to spam you with overly complex lapper messages also.
IMO people who swear or abuse should be banned, because theres really no need.

Some cars in LFS if using autoclutch you dont need to lift at all XFG XRG FXO UF1 all spring to mind, others you really need to lift at every upshift to avoid overheating.
Interestingly when talking TBO (xrT rB4 fxO) I think the reason the FXO is considered the fastest and RB4 the slowest is exactly for this reason.
All the road cars should IMO behave the same clutch heat wise, this would make them both more realistic (in terms of having to lift) and more interesting to race.
Most of the faster racers you see will be using autoclutch, you can still operate the clutch manually if you have one (G25 for example) whilst set to auto.

Tis true that most of the WR holders use their own setups, that are probably very different than race S etc, however, the one thing that can be learnt from the top10 hotlaps, is the fastest lines, and once perfected a fast line will be essential regardless of the setup.
My general quick tips for improving laptimes would be; use all the road when you can, slow in, fast out, keep the car going forwards not sideways at all times, dont change up until the red "shift light" comes on, and practise practise practise.
Some people tend to turn the wheels too much around corners (squeeling noises) steering less often works better.
