BBT, You've hit the jackpot... You've just discovered why it never rains on an oval while cars are at race-speed.

It's 3 things...
Centrifugal force, air movement, and air pressure that's pushing everything inside the vortex to the outside (hence it never rains on ovals, air pressure and air movement pushes it to the outside, much like the eye of a hurricane)

Quote from Funnycat :Can you provide original cyrillic text?

I could try, but that probably would be spelled all wrong (it would be, trust me, I can't even spell Da Svidanya, although I know the ya part is an R in reverse).
Other than that, there doesn't seem to be a cyrillic version around (even the cover in the CD is in latin script).

Edit: Is it до свидания?

Translation question to any Bulgarian readers...

Could any of you provide me with a translation of the following text?
I have one, but it doesn't make a whole lotta sense (well some parts do, other parts seem to be translated by babelfish and are as alien in english as in bulgarian).

Thanks a million...
PS. It's the lyrics to a ladytron song called fighting in built up areas.

You need the game to actually watch the cars go around on the track.
You could export a replay lap and load it into a replay analyzer without the game installed though. Those analyzers need some additional files which can be downloaded from liveforspeed.net.

Manual clutch is faster than auto-clutch... And set the clutch type to 'button' which is faster because it's almost instantaneous. Unlike your foot moving 4 inches back and forth, which takes time.

Quote from cvearl :#1. Why do I hear that quick little red line rev before each gear change? I noticed this in other replays too. I see it in their tach as well. It's like RPM is building in current gear, they go to change to the next gear and it's like a "whup whup" sound in the rev and the needle jumps briefly to redline and then they are in the next gear. What is that and why are they setup to do that? Also, is there a reason why NOT to do it?

#2. I have the option to take over their car via TEST DRIVE. So that's THEIR car and THEIR setup I am using? What if I want to keep that set? Can I?

Thanks.

C.

#1. It's called 'flatshifting'... Shifting up without ever lifting off the throttle. It used to seriously damage the engine, but since every car now has a revlimiter everybody who wants to hotlap just does that. The fastest way to shift up in LFS would be:
1. set LFS to use a button clutch and manual clutch.
2. Floor the throttle
3. Shift up to the next gear (it should stay in the original gear)
4. Hit the clutch button.
5. Watch and listen to the car automagically shifting up and take off in the next gear without loss of speed at all.

I think the rev limiter should be turned off for all cars when declutched (as in, clutch pressed).

2. uhmmm.. I'll just say 'No'. Like TAA said. Go to the setupfield to get most WR sets. Beware though. Some of them are undrivable for earthlings like most of us, and require aliens to be driven fast. Most of them will make you faster with practice though.

EDIT:
@nihil: Speed shifting is shifting without the clutch as I understand it (annoyingly impossible in LFS because all cars with a decent gearbox would allow it). Flatshifting is shifting without lifting, like in F1 or A1GP. Or I could have it backwards

Funny how the smoke in that particular pic is the only thing that looks realistic... Goes to show how good his stuff actually is.

Quote from sweetreid :Yeah I penned that one, thought it was a nice fit.

I agree with having some discussion... Is 'The T1' really the best we can do here?

The T1 is probably the only name for that turn that will ever stick... I've seen people refer to it as T1 even on the reverse track (where it is in fact TLast).

@Tweak:
At Kyoto, the turn you named Don Bikes Kink should not be named... It's an oval turn, and turns like that on the s/f straight are always called dogleg or tri-oval. You could name the straight Don Bikes Straight/Shute.. You specifically named the corner though.

Quote from mrodgers :If you have to slow down way off line on a straight when you first see blue flag, but don't see the car yet in your mirror, then so be it. That is what you have to do because you are not a part of the race. Those racing shouldn't have to pass you, you should make like you are not even there.

I agree with everything you say, except this part.
I'd rather they keep going until they can clearly see the car coming up behind and can judge its speed. If they have no clue where a car is, chances are they'll slow down enough only to get in the way because they arrived at the turn doin 2mph just as you wanna turn in. If they slow down too much they're bound to become moving chicanes for others. Passing is easier when they are going somewhat slower, not 100 mph slower. Gives you more time to react and prepare for them.

Quote from RudolfR :That's what I have sometimes , after U20..

Like Jak said...

I've seen that before... When I broke my nvidia by overclocking it. It was running about 25 degrees too hot for it to handle, so it started messing up these vertices.

I got a defective card that had the same problem without overclocking. So if it does this consistently with different games (although LFS is extremely prone to it), then you might want to see if a different videocard fixes it.

Quote from Darkone55 :Then why is it F1 drivers get a drive-trought penalty if they not go off the line to let faster drivers pass? The slower driver must imo be the one to go off the gas.. Especially if they have just joined the server. Imo you don't have much rights when you just join a server when a race is already going on.

Yes, and no... Alonso got a penalty for alledgedly blocking Massa even though Massa was so far away I doubt LFS would have given even a blue flag message. Those are the F1 adaptations of Blue Flag rules. They have no connection to the normal racing blue flag rules, other than the color of the used flag.

F1 is really a bad series to use for basing your blue flag rules on, because they are really different from other forms of racing.

Quote from Greboth :To where the name came from - Didnt anyone else as a kid come up with team names but taking parts of names, or initials etc to come up with a name? Or was that only the people i knew

Pronounciation - Sca - ve - er
Thats how ive always pronounced it.

heh.. Back in the day when I was in school, we had to design a computerprogram, so me and 2 friends started designing a graphics adventure. We came up with a company name, in much the same way except we used our last names. Company was called NiSaBo Interactive. Incidentally I still use that name... I've named my local W2k domain after it.

Scary huh? You'd think this group of people would be naturally interested to educate themselves a little.

Edit: that came out wrong. Obviously lots of people here are highly knowledgeable about motorsport. I'm just wondering why there's a minority who (for example) don't know what a blue flag means.

I think you may thank F1 for that, because they are the only series that keep changing the blue flag rules, and (overly) strictly enforce them.

Define "computer-ish"... I found the "messed up color only inkjet" idea a good one for computer-izing the plain logo, without making it too obvious. But if you can sort of tell me what you want on the logo I can probably make it... Tomorrow though... Not enough time to design a proper logo today

They make merchandise which you can design yourself... (like: http://www.cafepress.com/buy/l ... 14073889/opt_/pg_/c_/fpt_ )
I didn't make that one, nor do I know if it has permission from the Devs.

As for the logo, I'm throwing something together... Nothing great though.
