I think all those guys that learn't to race on skinny tyres and no downforce knew how to habdle a car. Far more than anyone can nowadays with fancy body kit's with Aero and fancy traction control and the like.

The only 'fancy' tricks those guys had was how thin the sole of their shoes where . . . .

It does depend on your viewpoint. If your are a big business partner then yes, their particular business model at the moment could be a little more, dare i say it, professionial. But we are not parley to what they are up to behind the scenes. They are obviously talking to some big people to secure the VW badge and the Williams F1. We don't know what else is being developed in the commercial arena which in the long run could prove far more profitable than releasing updates to grumpy old sim racers like us.

Some might moan that if that is the case then how could they 'change their spots' aftyer leaving big business to go back to pandering to it again. Fair play if they are, it's what I would do. It's how the the world works. Work your apprentiship, then steal all your old customers when you start up the new business. But if, on the other hand, thay are keeping this a 'cottage' industry to deal to a small but deedicated fanbase, then nobody really has a need to complain. The old stalwarts know why LFS was made in the first place and the ethos behind it. Those that bemoan the lack of progress really really don't get it.

Personally. I think LFS is still a kick arse racing sim second to none. It' snot perfect, but then what sim/game ever is. Especially if your called EA and rush everything out on the deadline with only half the code written hoping to hot fix it before anyone can get to the broken last mission.

For me LFS is like the old family dog atm. You've had it for a few years, and yes it's breath smells and it farts worse than granddad but at the end of the day you love it and you still take it out for long walks in the countryside. Long live LFS. So say I.

Edit - Took me so long to right this i've missed what I was replying too. Oh well.

Edit edit - Looks like me and SamH are singing from the same crib sheet. That's a thought. Hey Sam, fancy starting a PR company?

Only if you take it that way . . .

I didn't realise it was part of a series. It was a real I opener when they said that out of 15 drivers 7 had died in one season alone. Amazing. I enjoy a good crash like the next man, but it's nice to see the drivers walk away now.

I got the impression from the film that Chapmans 'on the limit' engineering principles didn't always sit right with Clark. They didn't dwell on it in the film, but I get the feeling that could possibly be the bigger 'racing' story seeing how closely they where tied together.

Did Chapman blame himself for Clarks death? Was that the beginning of the end for Lotus? Tune in next week for the next thrilling installment . . . . .
Homage to Jim Clark . . .

You see, even in real life drifting does not make for more than a minute and half's worth of fun before being shredded to death.

Although I do have the ideal solution to save your high temperature tyre problems . . . . . Straight lines between corners. Works wonders.

Quote from Becky Rose :I couldnt help it, I like guys who are a bit of a girl.

Goddamn Sister! Was it the Kitten heels that did it? Damn difficult to race in they are. Just because I'm in touch with my feminine side doesn't mean you can hold it against me. Although feel free to hold yours against me anytime you wish.

Mothercare is great. You can go and play with the train sets and try and guess which mums are single. Helps if you take a kid. Oh, and hide the beer cans too. And look really interested in the most expensive pushchair they have. . . . . . . Some of them three wheelers with the knobbly's are the bee's knees. And a word from the wise, don't get the single/married to a squady who's home on leave mum's confused. They say the scar will die down after a few years.

And waytogo Tris. Tell us when your racing somewhere other than outer mongolia and I might have to book a day out to see you try and keep your car in one piece. I have a mental picture of a red Formula car, a long straight, a brick on the acclerator, and you lying prostrate across the engine cover with a roll of gaffa tape in your hand and your cape flapping over your head.

Over active imagination. Moi? And Becky. Stop cracking on to me will yer. That move you pulled in the toilets . . . . Left me speechless. I thought I was safe around you . . . . .

How can you say the hot tyres physics are unrealistic. If LFS states that the optimum working temp for a road tyre is (pulling this outta my head) 60degrees, then how can you expect a 130 degree tyre to work. Sure this might not reflect real life performance drop off but with so many variables to take into consideration; Scrub, wear, temp, road surface, car setup, car dynamics, load transfer, contact patch, driver behaviour, angle of attack, how can you expect LFS to manage the simulation of exactly the physics involved that are so astronomically complicated that those in the real world don't have all the answers.

And what about real life drifters. I can't see their tyres lasting very long. I have no idea how long drifters can drift for but i can't see 'endurance' drifting working somehow.

It's the Prodigy . . . . I think the song is called Voodoo People. Not sure on that though.

As for the video, nice trick. Got bored after the first long shot though. More close up work, more action. A Testiment to LFS's physics that you can actually set up a car to do this and look halfway realistic.

I was a bit Meh, over the first sections, but that last bit . . . . . WOW!

Great choice of shots, I love the camera shake, The movement, the car positioning, the colour filters, everything about the last section just say's 'YES!'

Good work.

Whatever the colour filter that you used really worked. It makes LFS look so different and creates alot of realism.

I have the next one down. The 3 series based convertble Alpina. 2.5litre straight six, rear wheel drive, limited slip diff out off the M3, 89-90 manual, lowered and stiffened.

My advice. Try getting a cheaper model first. Although generally any Beemer is a good Beemer is has to be in bloody good nick to pay $9000 for it. I paid £1250 for mine, with a new soft top roof for it. I have seen normal 5-series, of that age, for under a grand with reasonable miles on the clock. For your money there you should be getting a pretty low mileage, mint condition motor.

But they really are lovely cars. And now with the accendancy of Audi as being the Chav mobile of choice, Beemers are now cool to drive again. So say's Jeramy Clarkson. And he is god.

Edit -And fuel consumption is all about how you drive it. A manual will be easier on the wallet, you have more control over the engine. But even with an auto, if your light on the right foot, you'll be light on the fuel. And beleive me, you can tell the difference between a hard drive and a gentle one. Especially with these size engines.

Looks like the fence has a physical attaction similar to the track so the tyre try's to adere to the fence as much as it would if it was th race track.

I wonder that if I could just get onto that flyover whether I can find a decent cafe at the next roundabout.

If I could, I imagine meeting all the old time LFS'ers sitting in the cafe recounting old times over a bacon butty and a large coffee and admiring the various skin jobs on their GT's parked outside the window. And whinging about the new kids as they thrashed their UF's down the straight.

I've not taken a look at your setup or your replay, but a few basic strategy's to prevent overheating of the clutch would include.

- Lift on gear change. Flatshifting is one of the quickest ways to roast yer clutch.

- Lift in the air. There is alot of differential between frictionless air time to hitting the ground, thats alot of strain for any clutch/drivetrain assemble let alone a digital one.

- Marry up the gear ratios closer. It's something I do alot, I manual pedal clutch with stick shift and matching revs is not my strong point. If you bring the ratios closer together you get less overall stress between gear ratios and the clutch takes less off a bashing as a result. Of course, that is track specific. It's something you'll have to learn to play with and adapt to your style of racing.

- Get a foot clutch.

If the accel/brake thing is your only problem then you need to split up the axis in 'control' setup options. I think it's under the 'FB' section but I can't swear to that and i'm not going to start LFS to check .

If the accel/brake are on the same axis then you get the reulst your experiancing. Split 'em up and and all should be well.

Quote from Minimaxman :Funnybear, would be nice to see your Alpina, Dad's got one too and you don't see many about.

Can't wait!

Thats because most of them have been backed into trees at quite a large rate of knots.

I intend on looking after it. only 76k (If I beleive it) on the clock. Still quite new to me though. Needs some tidying.
