Quote from J.B. :Here's another trailer: http://www.apple.com/trailers/ ... s/transformers_large.html

This one seems to confirm that the movie has little resemblance to the original storyline. IMO the movie should begin with the war on Cybertron, followed by the the Transformers spending millions of years "sleeping" beneath the earth and then being awakened by an earth quake.

They should've used the Phobos 2 mars mission for that, because that actually was a mysterious loss of an otherwise perfectly good craft. It shot pictures that were released, and those pictures contained an unidentified object. It's final video transmission was also released to the general public, minus the final few frames (was the object in it again?). Everything about that failed mission is one big mystery, and the reaction to it was also quite strange (world leaders suddenly talking about extra terrestrial threats in a 'what if...' kind of way and stuff).

I didn't say LFS was perfect... It's just that there were bigger problems that got solved, and the field is now closer as a result of that... And using certain non-setup related settings doesn't qualify as a physics loophole. But that's besides the point. One of the things that DOES still cause big differences is the suspension damage model. It's still possible to jump kerbs unrealistically, and that is a problem.

Quote from RichardTowler :so aliens are people that exploit the physics and thats the only reason they are fast? uh no. The term alien was just used when someone was faster than expected and people had to make a silly name for it.

They are always just fast and slow drivers, the faster drivers are usually people that just push the sim to its limits, not only from a driving point of view, but setup point of view. And thats the simple reason why some people are faster than others.

The 'oh they are only faster because they drive unrealistic' is just an excuse by slower drivers who cannot handle the fact they are actually slower than other people and need a reason to validate to themself why they are slower which doesn't have to do with driving.

Yes, that is precisely what they're doing. It used to be that way in LFS, with totally unrealistic setups and stuff. It's better now, and guess what... They're not impossibly fast anymore.

The point is, you should not push the SIM to its limits, you should push the CAR to its limits... Pushing the sim to its limits means you're cheating real life physics, which was my point.

If you want to see a great example of a realistic sim with physics holes the size of manhattan, check out RBR.

Quote from StanleyCarter :What sort of a script is that? is it free for sharing?

LFS scripts...
Yes, I could share them, but you'd need to change all the button and axis numbers because mine are all different... Also, it would only work if you have a G25.

To get the GTRs to have a sequential gearbox, change the 'run road' line into 'run sequential' for all the ??R.lfs files in LFS\data\script

I've included the gearbox script files. Just check it out and then create your own.
If you want to keep using the FO8 with paddles, you'd need to add the /autoclutch 1 line to FO8.lfs

BTW: @devs: Forum misconfiguration... As we can exchange scripts, the .lfs files should be allowed to be attached to forum posts...

LFS, without a doubt.

Although GPL was teh bestest when it came out, it's physics are still among the best ones around, but it is dated. Low Speed grip is way below par, and the sliding that can be done with it is unrealistic. Proof of that is in the difference in fastest laps between mere mortals and "teh aliens".

IMO, in a sim that has ultrarealistic physics without anything that makes it any different from reality, the 'aliens' would not exist. There'd be slow and fast drivers, but they'd all be going for the same limit, the limit of the car. As it is now, limits in the physics engine get exploited by the aliens. LFS doesn't have real 'aliens', just guys that are faster than others. If you compared the average driver's times to the Pre-April-patch physics to the post-april-patch physics, you'll notice that the slower ones are actually closer to world record times, because the physics behave more like real world.

Also, physics is the 'only' thing I want in a sim.

Quote from Ball Bearing Turbo :
Strange, so is mine.. Perhaps it's universal

Nope, mine isn't. But then, I have no insulation whatsoever in my car.
Of course, the sound inside is a much deeper drone, much like LFS has, and completely unlike the sound you hear on the outside.

BTW, for ultimate realism...
I have created scripts so that:
The paddle cars (BF1, FO8) move the brake pedal to the clutch pedal
The FO8 turns autoclutch ON (there's only 2 pedals in paddle cars)
All the GTRs with the exception of the XRR use a sequential shifter instead of H-gated.
The only thing I have to change when going sequential is the dial on the G25.
Works great!

See if you can find any option in your graphicscard drivers that lets you switch the mouse pointer from hardware to software mode.
If you can't, then maybe you have something capturing the mouse running, which may lead to it not understanding what to do in Fullscreen LFS?

Hi, and welcome to LFS... Say goodbye to your regular life, because you won't be seeing it for a while

The BEST way to start is by taking the XFG out for a drive. It's front wheel drive, and slow as my grandma on a scooter, but it's the perfect car to learn carcontrol in. Then, when you're confident you can keep her on the road and keep up with the AI, you may want to go for some different type cars which are not too powerful, just to feel the difference between FWD, RWD, 4WD, etc. Do all of this on one track, like Blackwood.

Once you get to grips with the XFG and the way the G25 works for you, start learning other tracks, and get online to join in some races. Make sure you know the car and track before you join though, we don't mind slower drivers, as long as they are coming prepared.

Also, there's a list of things you should check out in the threads in this forum that are stickied at the top. They'll help you prepare yourself for everything you'll find in the world of LFS. Find some setups you feel comfortable with, and find some nice people who can help you gain speed and teach you how to race. You'll find that there are a lot of helpful people online.

But remember the most important thing you should always do while you're a part of LFS... And that is to have FUN.
I know that I made it sound like a very long process, but you'll be online and racing us in no time at all, it's easy

C ya online soon!

Quote from Blowtus :a vague step in the right direction. sound is still shoddy. gear clicks and whine is the only substantial improvement imho.

Yes, but when I look at the big picture, then it doesn't actually sound half bad. The stuff you hear in LFS is maybe a fifth of the stuff that you hear in a real car driven at high speeds and near the limit. You can hear the suspension working, bodywork cracking, stones hitting, engine hopping, etc, etc. All that isn't modeled in LFS at the moment. If you add all those noises to the sounds we have, it's actually bloody well done.

Only point of criticism I have with the engine sounds at the moment is that they are dampened (muffled, if you wish) wrongly, although it's better than the first sound update was. In a real car, as the revs go up, the sound changes, and when frequencies change, so do the dampening capabilities of certain substances on that sound. In a real car, the bass sound we have now would get dampened out way more at the higher revs, while the higher frequency ranges would get amplified because they pass metals more easily. This is what gives an engine it's roar when it goes into high revs, or scream if it revs really high. Although there's definitely more roar in the bigger engines now, it's not quite there yet.

Still a huge improvement over the originals.

Depends on the cars... I'm faster in the real shifter cars, but I'm slower in the formula cars. But I think in the end I'll be faster using the shifter and proper heel/toe.

Then why are we all driving our brains out on the STCC servers when there's a whole new universe created by Becky? Don't want to be competition for the devs?

Quote from Becky Rose :I confess it's swayed my perception of the 'community at large', and made me wonder why I even bother contributing to sim racing. The whole thing has made me feel I should go back to real racing and be damned with the whole thing, but thankfully I do have some faith in humanity, and I realise Tim is only 1 person, albiet one I favour less than the long dead carcasse of a rotten skunk.

People like Tim can be found all around. And I doubt we could do without you, especially now. If we had to choose between something you came up with which wasn't entirely 100% perfect, or something that's been running for ages by someone like him, I'm 100% sure that 95% of the people who care about LFS would stand behind you. Simply because we've come to know your abilities and efforts for this community.

So I sincerely hope that you would never leave this community for something like this.

The song is beautiful IMO I'm not that heavy liker, but I love this particular song, I consider it as my anthem

PS about the vid: It's a studio audio recording mixed with a concert footage.

Still... I got some of it right

I can never tell when you guys say an O or an A or when the i is an e or en i...
Hmmm, he's singing Ya svaboden... So I got one 'a' right :P
I'll just stick to the Russian of tAty, if you don't mind Nice song, this, though.

Quote from LFSn00b :And same in english?

Are there any small black/white/blue connector thingies on the back of any of your disks? And if so, are they arranged in a proper Master/Slave/CS fashion (as in, the disk you want to boot from is master, the other is slave). This only goes for IDE disks, though. SATA doesn't use this method anymore AFAIK.

What you checked for probably is what DISK to boot from, but you may want to check what CONTROLLER has priority. It seems to me the PC wants to boot using the SATA controller, but this should be set to IDE controller.
Look for anything that says: Controller Order, or Boot order, or a combination of Controller and Boot and Order
