The ^ don't need to be in the username, they can be translated to a binary 'colorcode' of a single byte. There must be some unused bitsequences for characters, so we can precede colors with that bitsequence.
1001cccc = 16 colors.
[XP]-TagForce- = 14 characters.
+^white^ +^red^ + white^ + ^blue^ would make 18 characters...
In the current format my name can have just 1 extra character.
(15 characters + 4 * 2 characters for colors)

Because it's unreadable in any car that has a roof... This may be a bit harsh, but I literally HATE black letters at the moment (in LFS).
Maybe LFS should have drop shadows? A light one for dark colors, and a dark one for light colors.

On topic:

They're going to replace the entire server?
Nice going considering it's a clone (selfbuilt) machine. Will they be transferring the harddisks or are they going to be transferring the hardware data?
If it's the latter, then I'd expect some major downtime (like a couple of hours), or major slowness of the forum.

Because DX10 will only be released on Vista, unless MS gets a LOT of negative publicity because of this.

As it is, there's more than one problem with LFS on Vista because MS once again decides what users are able to do on their own systems.

You are absolutely correct there... Both on the respect and the utopia parts.
Unfortunately, you'll need a police force to keep any people from throwing themselves into anarchy, and this forum is no different from the rest of the world. It's politics 101. As soon as there are rules, you must make sure those rules are followed. The only way to do that is with a police force. And the larger the group of people it is, the more fights there will be. If the current mods are willing and able to moderate all the posts if needed, then there need not be more mods...

People will just never learn to tolerate eachother unless they're forced to. Human nature.

Trust me when I say this won't be possible for long... I don't know how it's possible, and wouldn't tell anybody except a dev or mod if I did, but it will be dealt with.

What I'd like to see is as much as possible simulated from the moment the cars are moved to the paddock for the reconaissance lap until the cars are turned off in parc ferme after the session... Everything in between is over the top. So, yes, I want to see stranded cars on the track. I want to see rearbumpers tear off the body after heave contact. YES I want to see pitgirls walk out onto the track to show me where I have to line it up for the grid. No, I don't want to have to sit out an hour when I wreck, but I do want to wait for a marshall to get me out of the car so I can spectate from behind the armco.

Yes, Victor is entirely entitled to flip his lid every now and then. He should just take a break, think things over, have some fun, and then come back all refreshed. Last thing we need is Victor having a nervous breakdown (although being on the phone with an ISP will do that to you, I know).

They don't, but we do... It's not about protecting the devs at all (they can defend themselves rather effectively)... It's about creating a community that has an effective governing body. The past few months it has become painfully clear that differences of opinion cannot be discussed here without insulting eachother or entire groups of people. Even though that's the first rule of the forum. If it's not possible to moderate that with the current crew, then there needs to be more crewmembers.

Two ways to solve this problem...

1) People need to treat the devs more like users, and users more like devs.

2) More moderating. It's time consuming, yes, but it NEEDS to be done. I'm sorry if that upsets the "open and free" policy of the forum, but too much freedom leads to anarchy, and this is just the preview of that. If there's not enough mods to accomplish scanning 95% of threads and editing posts if necessary, then there should be more mods. The more people see an offensive post, the more people will reply to it. (when you edit a post, just leave a note stating why you edited it... Saves you arguments in PM)

For the good of LFS, something NEEDS TO BE DONE... Both by us users and the people running this show.

Multicultural, yes... tolerant? Not so sure... As a whole the community sometimes seems like incredibly tolerant and friendly, and at others seems completely elitist. I don't know why... Maybe I'm noticing it more because it started to annoy me.
